Anonymous, 13 Oct 2022Thanks for the reply! Is there a phone you would recommend ... moreThere are some other reputable not so well exposed or dont really advertise that still sell phones mainly budget ones that still have removeable batteries.
The latest one I knew of is from Cubot Model P50. Doogee, Oukitel probably has one too.
If you are fine with it ofcourse not being a Samsung.

Is there a phone you would recommend that is smaller than the Xcover6 but has a removeable battery? I keep phones for a LONG time so a user-replaceable battery is important. Unfortunately, smartphones with them seem to be very rare. Would also like 5G bands for futureproofing. For use in USA. Ruggedized is nice but not essential. TIA

Anonymous, 13 Oct 2022Thanks for bringing the FieldPro to our attention. It also ... moreIt has a smaller screen, but the phone itself is pretty massive, overall bigger (volume) and heavier than the XCover6 Pro. I kinda like it, but objectively I cannot recommend it with a clear conscience. It is an odd phone in a kinda cool way, so go for it if that is what you like, but from a practical perspective the XCover6 Pro is better in almost every way.
I have not heard of a direct successor to the FieldPro, but who knows. The FieldPro itself is the successor to the nameless SM-G888 that was made for South Korean railway operators, so maybe those will order another upgrade one day. But it is a niche phone with very little support by Samsung: it finally got a security update this summer, after a year of nothing - compare that to the monthly updates for the other XCovers! Seems to be very low priority, which is a bit of a shame, as the hardware is good quality.

They wanted a professional phone that would last for years outdoors. Amoled would not last. Their choice is logical and complaining here changes nothing.

Minu, 09 Oct 2022I have a feeling GSMArena isn't correcting the specs, ... moreNo need to correct any specs, GSMArena has it right, Samsung has it right, the XCover6 Pro has PLS:
https://www.samsung.com/uk/business/smartphones/xcover/galaxy-xcover6-pro-sm-g736bzkdeeb/
Indeed, the difference between PLS and TN is obvious, making it hard to believe you have ever held an XCover6 Pro.
Likewise, no need to speculate about the FieldPro, it has AMOLED:

https://www.samsung.com/sec/business/smartphones/galaxy-xcover-fieldpro-g889/SM-G889NZKAK06/
I own both a FieldPro and a 6 Pro, and it is quite obvious that the FieldPro has an OLED-type screen and that the 6 Pro does NOT have TN. Now, you don't have to believe me, a random internet person, but if you want to contradict the official manufacturer's specs you should bring a bit more to the table.

Can't make sure about the XCover FieldPro since a very minority owns it and it either uses the same QLED display as the LG G3 or the OLED from Galaxy S6 and S7

The last one with a TN display was the XCover 3 from 2016. All newer XCover phones are IPS (XCover 4, 4S, Pro), PLS (XCover 5, 6 Pro), or AMOLED (XCover FieldPro).

In my opinion, it's ridiculous to make a phone with such dimensions and weight, then end up providing a battery of only 4050 mAh.

This phone makes the $250 lesser price of the Nokia XR20 128GB look more tempting, also the fact that Samsung still uses TN TFT displays instead of the usual PLS TFT displays in their XCover series is a hard to swallow, yet really sad fact
