Anonymous, 15 Feb 2020in korea, xcover fieldpro is used for goverment's disaster ... moreNormies might just have to be content with the Xcover Pro. If ever it becomes available. I'm getting sick of these samey every other week phone releases.

nikodll, 20 Feb 2020According to this german article: https://news.samsung.com/... moreThanks for the link! Hmm, distributed by some B2B communications supplier - might make it difficult to get for an individual. Not something one will find on Amazon, but usually there will be some company willing to sell to private people. Price sounds bad, but is not unusual in that area, could even be seen as fairly decent compared to something like a Motorola LEX.

As an aside, damn, that article is some seriously bad case of Denglisch, littered with unnecessary anglicisms in in order to sound... international? Like some wannabe MTV host? I'd be embarrassed to publish something like that. :D

According to this german article: https://news.samsung.com/de/samsung-launcht-das-galaxy-xcover-fieldpro

"The ruggedized device will be available from March 2020, the recommended retail price (RRP) is 1,199 euros."

This phone does exist. There's an Australian seller on Ebay that has it listed at an obscene price. Tutorial videos from AT&T specifically for this phone are posted on YouTube. I'm convinced that it just isn't available to the public - like the person from Korea below said, it's likely in use at different agencies that employ people working in various blue collar field positions.

Looking for a replacement for my Samsung Galaxy note 4.. that BTW is still rocking.
                    I like thsi phone because:
#1. the bigger replaceable battery. Which means when I can swap out and use a spare when in the woods hiking. Or when the battery dies in a year or two I can put in a new one. So should be able to use the phone 4 years plus.
#2. For the toughness of its build to mil specs. I want a drop proof phone, cause it happens all the time.
                    3. The keys at the bottom, I hate the everything is" touch" on my Galaxy S8

I would prefer its screen size and proportion to be like the note 4. As I am not a fan of my work phone's Samsung S8 wide screen, or its beveled edges. Or how you tap that screen to hard it will drop the app your in and go back to home screen.
I will wait and see how the camera performs, as I like taking pictures when skiing /hiking or travelling. But if it sucks might just by a digital SLR.
But if Sonim comes out with a killer XP9 with good camera and capital zoom on the camera...Id might go for that. We see how the users like it.

I love this phone for two things, small TFT screen (less drain on the battery), and that 4500mah removable/overkill of a battery for such a small screen = battery for days, and thats what the kids dont get XD

Anonymous, 28 Jan 2020Ulefone, Blackview, and Doogee are all manufactured in Chin... moreI'm not too concerned about the "made in China" per se, a lot of respectable brands do that. But with rugged phones reliability means a lot, and that requires not just a well-built phone, but also a reliable company with an international/global support network, with a quick turnaround in local repair centers, good system update situation etc.

Just looking at the websites of Doogee, Blackview, Ulefone: shoddy sites with broken links, typos and bad grammar, weird contact addresses, hardly any service centers, support forums (if any) full of complaints about non-responsive email and no security updates. Specs and prices may be nice, but these are not (yet) companies that can expect to play in the same league as Panasonic, Samsung, maybe not even CAT (frankly I'd rank CAT in the middle at best) when it comes to industrial or EMT usage. If all one wants is a cheap phone with a high IP-rating on paper (can we even trust these certifications?), then such Alibaba-phones may be the right choice, but I doubt they will even be considered by anyone who actually depends on the device.

Still hoping this phone gets released to the public next week. I've had my S7 Active since 2016 and am ready to upgrade to a newer rugged device with updated specs.

If it doesn't, I'm thinking of just pulling the trigger and getting the S20. Would rather not drop that kind of money on a phone though.

What happened to the galaxy s active lineup is my main concern, like why ....we need love to you know!!!

Mark_S, 29 Jan 2020This is a Galaxy S7 Active Redux. My thoughts exactly...

I mean, first responders have to buy cell phones just like anybody else. If our dept provides anything that needs ruggedness, it’s gonna be a normal 2 way hand carry radio.
