With A-GPS the navigation uses the network, network charges apply, however the navigation may be free as in Nokia N97 mini. With A-GPS without the sim card it would not work. In simple terms - GPS works offline, A-GPS will not work offline. Am I clear?

Bacause in India n5230 only has A-GPS and not GPS (also mentioned in nokia india site). Did you buy this in Europe / US ? (Nokia europe site says it has GPS ans A-GPS). Please reply.
