hello "not sure",surprised I am as I installed on the i600 the dataviz smartphone edition 3 and it works as a dream. surprised I am as I travel the world around , as you do, no dropped calls at all. Or I was very lucky, or you had bad luck with the samsung i600. Be honest, after installing documents to go on it, almost no difference anymore with real pda.anyhow I am very happy with it, you a little less. let it be as that, makes the life attractive. btw, a very nice review u gave here.

I'm sure everyone's experience will differ, but mine is based on real world experience. And from that, it didn't work for me. If you move around in a vehicle (happened in Singapore, Hong Kong, and London) the calls do drop. As I said, I attribute this to the fact that the switching between signals/base stations is poor. I had another phone as well with me (which is a Nokia N95) with a different 3G SIM card and that worked fine (as well as my Blackberry 8707 which also worked fine). When I went to Bangkok for work, the i600 refused to pick up a signal. Luckily, I know how to manually find a network and then I had to keep telling the phone not to keep switching.

BTW, I installed DataViz and it doesn't work on the Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone. I must have the WM5 Dataviz FULL version and not the Smartphone version (or maybe an older version). I know it does have this function because the Dopod WM5 smartphones' can edit documents but I couldn't install it and don't know why Samsung didn't have it built-in.

My final thoughts on this is that perhaps I have been looking at this phone incorrectly. I tried to compare it to either PDA phones (like my Dopod 838 Pro and XDA Zinc). PDA phones are usually better PDAs than they are phones as they run full Windows Mobile and have the full functionality as such. In contrast, mobile phones are mobile phones, and don't have the capabilities of PDAs and as such we don't generally compare the two. To me, the Samsung is in its own class - an in-between product, which many manufacturers dub a "smartphone". It's not a PDA phone nor is it just a phone. That's why it runs WM5 Smartphone, and not WM5. So it's not fair to compare it to either of those. I should compare it to other "smartphones" with WM Smartphone like the O2 XPhone Graphite/IIm, Dopod C720w, and the i-mate SPL. Although I like the Dopod a bit more, the i600 does pack in a lot for something so small which is pretty amazing. I just wish I wasn't fooled by the Samsung marketing which led me to think this was a full PDA phone which it isn't. And I'm still unhappy about the poor phone reception!

if you want to make a real business tool of this unit, install Dataviz documents to go on it.Viewing and edit most common office documents and zip included. really nice

dunno why so many people complain, maybe they even never owned the device. I have it 3 weeks now and didn´t faced any problem of what people mention on this site. It is just a good smartphone doing what it need to do. BTW Samsung told me by mail they will free update to Windows 6 during coming month

Got this a couple of weeks ago. So far so good! The battery life isn't really that bad.. used half an hour of surfing & chatting on msn, about an hour on music and moderate calls and sms; the battery was still at half charge! Not too bad.. only needs a recharge every couple of days for me. HSDPA is a huge difference over GPRS, I have no problems with my 3G sim card or the reception. For those with problems, might just be your unit - go get it checked to make sure everything's in place! Overall its been what I was looking for.. didn't need the touchscreen!

Dear forum member. I will not look as a guy knowing all about but I owned many really many pda. on this moment I still have 5. Samsung i600 is a real good phone and pda. Samsung do not pay me to tell this, just believe me, no problems at all. I tried 3.5 G in a test area in Belgium and Hongkong and it seems OK, however the few minutes use can not guarantee this fully.Noise about bad working in 2 and 3 G networks are realy not shared by me. I used the phone in Europe ( Belgium, Holland, france, Germany and Italy)
in Asia ( China, Singapore , HongKong ) and did not had 1 dropped call, not 1 crash. just let you know this. Enjoy and do not forget, best is to try yourself and see. :-)

I'm a little skeptical about all these people that claim they are using it with 3.5G HSDPA. Tell me what country you are in and what network you are connected to? I don't believe that you are really on 3.5G as there aren't actually that many networks in the world that support it yet. It's coming but not yet there for everyone. The people that are having a good experience with this phone, particularly the phone calls are probably NOT using 3G. If you use this as a 2G phone, it might actually work. But I agree with ALL the others, if you put in a 3G SIM card, this Samsung fails. It can't find a network when you are roaming, it has a lot of failed calls, and sometimes doesn't even Sync properly. From someone that has used this for nearly 2 months now, I can tell you that my experience hasn't been good. It is NOT a good PDA phone, and it is not a good mobile phone. The Samsung tries to do both and fails at both. It should have tried to just do one and do it well. BTW, you can see the dust accumulate underneath the screen once you turn it off.

Its cool to have this with 3.5G HSDPA speed was so fast. The nightmare of hanging in touch screen PDA phones are all gone. Surprisingly, the phone function is more stable than other windows mobile phones. However, the keyboard need time to get used to. Also its difficult to find applications and games for this windows mobile 5.0 smartphone edition. Also I'm finding the Bluetooth GPS software for this but can't get hold yet.

i was going to say i have the e61i and the i600. the nokia has a bigger screen and much easier to read emails and other downloads. the samsung is smaller and lighter to carry. depends on what you need it for. i tend to carry the samsung more. the nokia is a lot more sophisticated yet easy and has a lot more features. the samsung is just funner to have. enjoy the samsung.
