Personall, I would advise against rooting. It has it's advantages, but it can also leave your phone open to malware, spyware etc.

Rooting gives you access to files that are not normally accessable because it is easy to 'brick' your phone if you don't know what you are doing. For instance it will allow you to make changes to the System files or remove built in apps. It allows other things as well, but the average user will never require root.

It's strange that you can't uninstall the Facebook app. It's a 3rd party app i.e. It doesn't come pre-installed on the phone, so it should be easy to uninstall. What method did you use?
Settings/Application Manager on your phone, or from within Google Play Store using the uninstall option on the app?
I use a free app named 'Easy Uninstaller' by Infolife. It saves a lot of time clicking to fing the built Application Manager.

Yeah, FB is a pain in the ar$e. Try this...
Connect to Google Play Store and press the left soft button on your phone and select 'My Apps'. Under 'Installed' or (scroll right) 'All', find Facebook and select it. On the page that opens you will see the option 'Allow automatic updating', which is probably ticked. UNTICK it and return to Home. Turn your phone off and then back on. Hopefully you won't be bothered with updates any more.

Compared to Xperia Ray, which is better? I like this phone but the camera resolution just doesn't get to me.
