I'm an Indian too (from Bangalore, to be more specific) and am planning to buy this phone from either clove.co.uk or expansys.com.

Thing is, when I chose India as the country in the shipping address, the VAT was dropped from the total amount. So my question is, will the DHL courier arrive directly at my doorstep without any hassle, or will I have to pay customs/taxes anywhere in India before I can get my package delivered?

Thanks a lot for anyone who can answer this question. Cheers :)

The S-AMOLED on the Galaxy S is much better than the AMOLED screen on the Desire.

I like this phone, but can't stand Samsung's TouchWiz UI.

Chints, 23 Jun 2010Hey Fongy, can please tell me about it's speaker quality? D... moreHey there...

Well there were reports of it being quite quiet - but actually the loudspeaker is pretty loud - certainly you'd hear it in a crowded pub...

It is on the back, and yes, and I guess like many phones, if placed on a soft surface it would be muffled...

                ;)

Does the incoming call ring from front speaker or the back? If back then I think there might be a problem with the loudness when the phone is laid on soft materials?

Thanks in anticipation of your reply.

                    Hey you crazy kids!
Just thought I'd give you all an update - in particular about the battery!!
Well, 3rd day using it now, and yesterday I put the "power saving mode" on as well as the "automated backlight" - and stopped using live wallpapers... and it dramatically increases the battery life...
I used it quite a bit sorting out contacts (if you need tips on how to transfer numbers using backup pro / google / facebook and then adding them actually onto the 'phone' - without doing it, you can't create groups or assign ringtones, etc.!
                    Anyway...
I used it for 2 hours music / radio - sorted out and linked loads of contacts, downloaded apps, generally messed with it (I had updates going on FB / Twit / Email, etc.)
And it was about 35% by 6pm-ish...
In order to run it down completely - I managed to watch most of 'up' in HD (or had it running whilst doing other things) and then increase contrast until it truly died...
I do think several charges has helped, and definitely the auto-power feature...
And yes, you don't need the contrast on full brightness for the screen to look lovely (but it's nice to increase it when showing it off to people!!)
So... all in all - disaster averted - I noticed someone, somewhere put that the X10's screen is better than Galaxy S in sunlight - trust me - it isn't - I've seen BOTH in real life (not just a video) and nothing compares to the Samsung...
Totally and utterly impressed with this phone - I was a bit sceptical at first (like many) and I'll be even happier with the Froyo update (even more RAM to play with according to everyone on here!)

                    2 quick questions for anyone!!!

                    1. Is there a way of overriding the "low battery" feature - and still use apps until it does run out?

                    2. Does anyone know of a decent silicone / hard case for it and where to get one? (UK) It's slim enough to be able to fit into a case and still be very very usable (I'll probably get a screen protector too!!)

Thanks everyone for input and comments - I'll be checking this section periodically so any questions you want answering - just ask!
                    :)

Saw the demo at the recent CommuniAsia fair. They dropped the phone onto the floor from a height of 1.6m. The phone's battery came out. But when it was assembled again, the phone was still perfect. Not even a scratch or a chip can be found on it!

Iv tried Tv-out with a n95 cable n its works perfectly.

Gameloft games are great. Playstation 1 emulator will be available soon too. I hope a PSP emulator is made too.

Online gaming is great, played What The Doodle!? which is good fun n Toonwarz is a 3D FPS with deathmatch et al.
