lalit, 21 Jun 2010can it support mkv video format?plz tellyes i does support MKV's..

I'm watching 720p MKV's directly downloaded from the internet.. like [Horrible Subs] Naruto Shippuuden and Bleach.

but unfortunately it cannot read the embedded subs.

The Work around for the subs is to
    1)Extract it using MKVExtractGUI
2)Convert it to SRT format using WinSubMux, rename with the same file name of the MKV but with ".SRT" extension.
3)Copy the MKV & SRT to Phone
4)Play with Meridian Media Player, Free & downloadable in the Android Market

Fongy, 22 Jun 2010Thanks for your tips... My main problem with your advice i... moreI truly understand your love with screen ;) but personally I don't see any point to pulling up a screen contrast if auto contrast works so well (in direct sun light too).

For me it is possible to leave phone alone for so long - I got other toys like consoles or PC ;)
Seriously now, it's going to be long time when we'll see phone which won't die after all day of playing it. I can imagine Dell's Streak battery life ;) Probably if you would turn off all UI animations battery would last longer ;)

BTW, my friend wich got desire and he's got bit more than 400MB in MemTotal in droidinfo. I forgot to ask him about other sections.

My main problem with your advice is that basically you're saying "don't use it that much" - don't touch it?!?!? for 8 hours?!?! Really??? I don't want a phone I can't touch!
I will try all the powersaving features tomorrow - but what worries me is that it's got such a great screen, and you can't put the contrast up to take advantage because the battery will die...
                  The trials continue!!! :)

I've tried to don't touch this phone for half of day - very hard taks :D (from 8am to to about 8pm), two alarms on, few texts and one call by the day - battery lower for 4% only.

One hour of video playback cost about 10% (resoluton 720*416, avi, 2599kbps bitrate, 25 frames per second, 320 kbps audio, volume on mid)

                      BUT
I got allways power saving on, auto contrast and 2G only so battery can last for about 2 days. Most power drains web browsing wif wifi on.

Try widget called system info - it shows battery temp so it's good hint what task is most stressful for this phone.

                      @FMUM

I got no laggs on youtube, sound and picture are synced.

Got mine today :0) It's super, BUT why is it so lousy using youtube?? The sound starts much faster than the movie and it's totally out of sync. Anyone else with this problem?? Tried some YT clips that works perfect on my computer.
Videocall is fantastic!! Much better than I expeceted :0)

                          To Arkie -

I thought that with mine, but it turns out I had to go through with the tutorial to enable SWYPE.

Do the tutorial and it should be there afterward.

                                Hi all!!!
Well, first real day using it (and as per my last comment not a great deal) and I got the low battery message at about 4pm (meaning I couldn't even play music walking home as it doesn't allow it) and now at 6.30pm it has died...

                                A couple of quick questions...

                                a) is there any way to continue using apps, etc. like music player when there is low battery - there's nothing in the manual / on the net...
                                b) is anyone else experiencing this?

I have to say, I'm going to do a few more tests in the next day or two... and if it doesn't improve, I'm afraid I'm going to have to return it (NOOOOOO!!!!)

I have to say if this is the norm - then the review of this phone on here is fatally flawed... 2 days with extensive usage? No chance, not even 1 day moderate usage...

Fongy, 21 Jun 2010Galaxy S Users (and the review if you're reading this!!!) ... moreIv had the phone for a week now. Extensive usage results in around 8 hours of battery life. Thats, downloading, installing, surfing, taking pics vids, viewing pics vids, a couple of short games, switching between live wallpapers with medium brightness. Wifi on, 3G on, sync on, GPS on. I expected more and do expect more with further charging.

Task Killer helps with lag, Power Control helps with battery. main problem is that there is soooo much u can do with this mobile that the battery simply cannot be expected to cope for a day. great games, great utilities, great everything. videos n pics are best viewed on phone and not PC!!

Making a phone call seems to drain the battery massively too I might add! dunno the diff in 3G n 2G so gna check it out and chose 2G if its enough.

Arkie, 21 Jun 2010hey it works! thanks buddy...No worries...
Another tip is about folders - creating them and then adding shortcuts to diff. apps - means everything can be organised a bit better (games folder, multimdedia, etc.) - to change the name of the folder, open it and keep your finger pressed on the title for a bit... again, nothing like this in the manual!!!
And you need to keep one space free on the phone window to be able to add shortcuts into the folder (keep the folder open and "add" as if you were going to add a shortcut onto the phone window...) again, nothing in the manual!!
                                        ;)
