I am thinking of purchaseing this phone but I have some questions. Can anyone tell me about the alarm app. Are there multiple alarms that can be set and with different ringers? Is there a multiple time zone setting on the phone? About the calender, are you able to set recurring events like every Monday or every 3rd Tuesday? Last thing, the speakers, is it a dual system? Is the phone very load?

Very, Very nice phone but unfortunately not quite up to spec. 5+ hours talk time is wishful thinking as far as my phone is concerned. A better average would be about 1.5 hours music and 1 hour talk time. Not enough battery time to watch a movie. The battery life needs a serious upgrade.

De Villiers, 12 Jan 2009Is there anyway of turning of 3G?Re: Turning off 3G
On the very top screen bar where you see the ime and signal/battery strength, press on the 3g icon and you can disconnect. It automatically reconnects when you open email/browser.

Shanks, 14 Jan 2009I am currently using this as a second handset.
The batte... moreRe Battery life:
Get used to it I'm afraid! Web browsing eats battery like you wouldn't believe. Remember it's only a tiny phone bettery not a laptop one! I used no web browsing to test this and my bettery lasted 2 and a half days (even using it through speakers to play loads of music).
Set your email download schedule to manual or it will log in automatically every 2 hours! This will save you some juice!
Upgrade your battery! There are better one's available!
The iphone was no better for web vs battery. I ditched my iphone and I am now free of Apples control over my life and an omnia convert for life!
Peace

elpha, 15 Jan 2009can anyone teach me how to activate flight mode of this phone?
Even easier!
Don't use widgets! They are pretty but silly! Change your today screen (under settings) to samsung toay 2. This allows total customization plus add a nifty settings icon at the top in the middle. Click on this and you get a screen where you can toggle services like plane mode/bluetooth/USB mode etc on/off with one click!
Toodles!

miss F, 16 Jan 2009i've problem with the camera phone..when i want to open the... moreHi miss F
Had my Omnia for 2 months and it rules so bear with initial niggles, most are easily fixed!
The camera issue is and odd one but I think I know what it is. Much like your PC, you can only run so many applications at a time before things slow down.
The applications (email, opera, java etc) don't all automatically close when you press the "x" at the top right. If you go to task manager (shortcut= hold down menu key on the top right hand side of the phone)and go menu-->end all tasks, this will shut down everything and free enough active menu to run the camera just fine.
Also, if you go into the settings menu for the camera, you can set the camera to store images into "my storage"/"storage card" (I reccomend the SanDisk 16gb its immense). This way you won't have a memory issue. The phone has 8/16gb memory on board but this is classed as "my storage" like a seperate drive on your PC. The actual handset memory only gives you around 40mb of free space for small docs etc which is not many photos at all.
Managing memory is the key to mastering this awesome phone. Once you get used to it, it's amazing.
Tips:
* Set all your applications to store files to "my storage"/"my storage card". This is always somwhere in the menu tab for the app.
*Choose to "save" downloaded apps/files rather than "open". This gives you the chance to set a destination for the files rather than just dumping them into the rather small handset menu. You always get the "open" option after the download anyway!
*Get used to using file explorer as you would on your PC to mange your files. Hold down the stylus on a file and select "cut"; then go to/create your chosen new folder in "my storage" and hold down the stylus and select "paste". You have now moved the file. This way you control your memory distribution!
* When closing opera browser, go to menu-->exit instead of pressing "x" as this properly closes your browser. Most other things need to be closed properly through task manager. This might seem a pain in the a** but it alows you to have two or more apps open if you need to switch between them (again using task manager). This is sometime very useful (eg. excel and word copying and pasting and so on).
*Use the media manger samsung app to view your photos and videos. You can direct it to your shots and ven when you close it, it remembers and returns to them. Photoslides app will, dammit, fill up with your album art when you start adding music.
*Add music as mp3's! Windows media player mobile will find your wma's from your PC but the Touch Player only reads mp3's! You can change your Rip settings on your PC to rip as mp3's or (I as am spending many hours doing) you can get a free wma to mp3 converter off the net.
* To set mp3's as ringtones, find the file in file manger and hold down the stylus on the track for an option to "set as ring tone". It will then also appear as a choice in the samsung alarm app.
* Set our alarms through the Samsung alarm app not the windows on as all those alarm sounds are horrid!
* Use the Samsung Today 2 home screen as it allows to link to the most useful stuff from the home page and is easily customised (setting--> today). You can also change the homepage drop down menu through settings-->menus to swap out useful programs. This way you can get to your favourite apps from screen 1. Widgets are pretty and fun for a while but ultimately pretty useless!.
* Like your PC if everything goes a bit wrong, just power down then up or use th reset button on the top! Works wonders in an emergency.
*Treat it like a pocket PC rather than an ordinary phone and you'll soon love it!
I hope these tips are of some use!
Regards
Owen
