Freefaller™, 25 Apr 2013@ Anthony It seems to be software related on your Pc(s).... moreI don’t maintain or install squat on the Work PC’s, there is I.T. for that.
As for home it must be an OS limitation. Because my tower is up to date. Stopped using laptops back when I got my HTC HD2. The light things I do on the go can be done on a big screen smart phone. : )

It seems to be software related on your Pc(s).
Do you have Service Pack 2 installed on your laptop?

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-vista/learn-how-to-install-windows-vista-service-pack-2-sp2

and SP3 v10 on Windows XP?

Windows 7 (which I use) recognises my S3 as an external drive, not an MTP, so that might be where your problem lies.

It is just like that for me but that is still media/portable device mode.
When a phone has a flash or hard drive mode and you connect it to a PC it is given a Drive letter (anywhere between D-Z) just as flash/hard drive would, that is not the case for me with the SIII. It just shows up as GT-I9300 with no drive letter.
And because there is no drive letter I can’t open Revit, AutoCAD, or even Word on my PC and find a file to edit that is located on my phone.
Because it has no drive letter you can’t find it using file>Open or file>save as
From a program on the PC.
That is what I call true flash/ hard drive mode and it could be done on windows mobile.
Does one of you guys know how that is done on the SIII?
Because saving to the hard drive first then using drag and drop to the phone Is wasted steps in my opinion.
Vista and 7 are more or less the same thing unless you doing networking then there is a big difference.
But for single system use, after many MODs vaster and & 7 could pass for twins.
I always pay for my OS and Anti-virus, so paying for a twins is wasting money.
I always sign up for beta testing of the windows OS, so I have tried them all. Including the new windows8 which sucks when you have a multi-display set-up.
As for work. I can’t tell them how to spend there money.

Just a note to all users. Yesterday, I purchased 'Swype' keyboard from the Google Play Store and it is the best d@mn keyboard I have ever used!
At the moment it is on offer at £0.65p (or $99) and is worth it!

Just a thought, but have you got Autoplay turned on for Media Devices on your PC?
You can check by pressing Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Autoplay, Change default settings for media or devices. In the list you will see your i9300. It might be set to 'Take No Action'. You can change it from the drop down menu.

Anthony, 25 Apr 2013Vista @ home. XP in work or by friendsSeriously, you're missing out the goodness of Windows7!
Xp lag often freeze and Vista suck big time!
My first impression on Window7 was so scared to leave Xp. I have 2 laptops and 2 desktops pc(1 for me and 1 for tv), all running Windows7. Looking back, I hate Xp so much!

Kies must be on. I don't know how i can by pass that. That' s one of the reason that i hate iphone(itune lock). Kies is even worst than itune(personal opinion). I can believe this. So all a need to do is to download the driver to connect to my pc and my pc will detect my S3 without this stupide software kies?????

                                  My experience with Kies.
                                  1. Download Kies
                                  2. Install Kies
                                  3. Connect phone and Kies recognises it.
                                  4. Use Kies

This is where is goes wrong (the second time).

                                  5. Start Kies.
                                  6. Connect phone.
                                  7. Kies can't find phone (spinner goes round and round and....) Never finds phone.
                                  8. Use a different USB port (luckily I have 5 USB ports on my PC).
                                  9. Kies finds phone.

                                  Next time.

                                  Repeat steps 5 to 9.

After Googling the problem I found lots of other users with the same problem.
I then found a program called 'USBDeview' which allows you to see every device that has ever been connected to your PC. Using that program, you can uninstall any of the devices from the USB ports.
THEN, Kies will recognise your phone when it is connected the next time.
Apparently, Samsung is aware of the problem and has been working on a 'fix', and has been doing so for the last two years.
In my opinion, Samsung can stick Kies where the cat sticks it's tongue!
