I am using a S2 gingerbread a year and a half ago.....and I just recently updated to ICS....you just have to download kies to a pc or a laptop to avail of the updated version for your S3...just follow the instructions on kies, goodluck.

By the way, i do not understand your contact problem i.e sorting with company name...like in hd2. I think this is very basic feature and all mobile ph has it.
I mean I can search by company. For e.g.. If i need to call somebody whose name I don't remember.... I just type few letters of his company name and i get the result. I can do that in my Motorola also ..but don't know about S3.

Tip for the day. .
You can have you own made notification tone by saving the mp3 in the notifications folder in the internal storage.
You can have a different notification tone for each app by setting the tone within the app settings.

As soon as I got it I came here for help to get everything to sync currently with outlook. (Have to use a paid app called moffice to get the syncing and the level of editing I want for outlook. )
And yes I'm big user of Skype. Very happy that I don't have to wait till I get home to video chat with friends out of the country now.
I'M a PC gamer playing games on a phone not going to cut it.
Got the Xbox 360 slim as a gift from my wife. And it has a layer of dust on it.
The eye candy I like in WP8 is how FB is integrated into contact. Let's you see update without always having to check an app. The FB home screen widget for this phone is limited in content and contact integration of facebook is also limited.
As for the iPhone there is no home screen widgets of any kind. You have to go in a app for every kind of data you want.
WP8 also has garim something I still have to use my HD2 for because Android doesn't have Garmin.
You know my long list of don't likes in wp7 but most have been address in WP8. But I want to see it in the wild to know if it lives up to my needs and expectations.
As for changing ROMs on my phone I used Odin3 (no rooting needed) been trying JB UK & Brazil beta versions.
Now I'm on the official JB for my region via OTA.
did that by replacing my provider ROM with my region unlocked ics using odin3. Cleared my cache partition and hard reset. Then I got the OTA JB update for my region but the factory unlocked version.
I can still restore my provider ROM using my s/n and kies.

Do you have a factory unlocked phone?
Or did you get a SIII for a next region?
Your version 4.0.4 SIII should have a baseband version I9300XXBLH1.
and it would upgrade to 4.1.1 with baseband version I9300XXDLJ5.
If you have a provider branded phone be angry with your provider.

I check in my fone daily and i can not see any update available. I don't have kies so cn nt update with it..
has anyone received the update OTA through software update in settings menu??
I guess samsung will nt release the update in India..
Stupid Company.. Stupid Promises.. I guess samsung is forcing us to sell this fone to get jelly bean in india..
