My S3 on android ( 4.3 ) , No lags No heavy RAM usage With normal consumption of battery without any problems ....
There are millions of users are still using this phone at the moment , S3 still has great value ....
I know that S3 was released in 2012 , But it's better than many other brands of phones that released by Samsung in 2013 and 2014 ( really bad qualities ) !!!!
S3 still supported by Developers with many custom Roms ( kitkat - lollipop ) For this S3 called ( the king of custom Roms ) ...
Do you know that Galaxy Note 4 Rom flashed successfully on S3 !!!
even samsung still rolling out new sub-updates (4.3)
For these reasons S3 will not die ....

My advice is based on experience. I pretty much did everything on your list twice and the battery drain still persisted. I'm trying to save people their time and frustration. The fact is while the S3 is/was a fantastic performing phone, the battery life is/was a total complete disappointment. And it's just not me, do a internet search and you'll see dozens of threads spanning dozens of pages with hundreds of users all with the same problem. Some could be helped, some could not. We're a week away from 2015 and this is a 2012 phone, why are people still pulling their hair out in frustration of their battery life when now you can spend only a couple hundred bucks and get something that will perform equally or better than a S3, have a bigger screen, and significantly better battery life. Salvation is only $200 away, if that. But if you want to tell users they have to cripple their phones, diminish the experience, and babysit all the background processes to hopefully get "ok" battery life then to each his own.
The worst thing of all is there are people here who are still considering buying a S3! Unbelievable. All remaining unsold S3's should be destroyed and put in a landfill, or given away for free, but nobody should be actually spending their money on a S3 today. Even Samsung has dropped support. It's a dead phone but shops are still selling them, that's just wrong. And I'm just not picking on the S3, I wouldn't recommend today anyone buy any phone released in 2012.

what is build number ( current version )??? , what is your country ???
you can update by :
1- OTA :
Settings > About device > Software update then check for updates ...
2- samsung kies .
3- Oden .
** If your phone ( rooted ) you won't get any official update through OTA or samsung kies ** ..
by using Oden you can flash new Rom , but be careful when use Oden ,
1- loss warranty of company .
2- any mistake during flash Rom will Disrupts your phone ...

Hello S3 users ...
Settings to speed up system to get maximum performance ( RAM & Battery ) for galaxy S3 ( 4.3 ) ( 4.1.2 ) :
1- in developer options scroll down to Drowing : select animation is off for ( windows animation scale - transion animation scale - animator duration scale ) .
2- in developer options scroll down to Apps : limit background processes and select 4 processes at most . ***( always repeat this selection after turn on or restart phone ) .
3- In application manager ( turn off ) (disable) unnecessary bloatware apps and services for ( google & samsung ) Because it always running in the background and consuming dramatically battery life and Ram .
4- Not install many apps that consuming battery and Ram such as social network apps or games ...etc, You must know that most of these applications are running in the background even if not used !!!!! Only install what you really need in your daily life .
5- in display reduce brightness level less than half . ( not use auto brightness )
6- turn off ( NFC - S Beam - Nearby devices - Screen Mirroring - Motion - Smart Screen - Voice control - Page buddy - Multi windows - Daydeam ) .
7- turned off ( sync ) google account & access to location .
8- Not use live wallpapers.
9- reduce number of pages & widget on home screen ( maximum 3 pages ) .
10- always clean up system ( Ram and cash ) .
11- use home button to close apps that running in the background . After that go to settings > application manager > runnig and stop active apps ( Except system apps ) .
12- use power saving mode to reduce battery consumption ( limit cpu speed ).
For Extremist battery saving mode :
1- Use black wallpaper background in home and lock screens .
2- Not use vibrations in ( call - ringtons - notifications ) .
3- Not use sounds in ( dailing keypad - touch screen - lock and unlock screen ) .
4-Switch off touch key light .
5- Set screen timeout 15 seconds .
6- Not use any live Widget .
Battery charging :
1-To get speed charge close all apps during charge or use airplane mode or turn off phone before charge .
2- If you faced any problem such as slow ( bad ) charge , check your charger , Before you think about change the charger ( adapter& usb cable ) , first change the usb cable ( get new one ) then watch the result .
3- Always use original charger , never use bad quality it will damage your battery and phone .
4- If you are using battery for more than 18 months it’s better to change and get a new one ( original ) .
Golden solution for most apps problems :
If you have any problem with any app
Go to settings > application manager > application ( name ) :
Force stop
Clear data
Then restart phone . If the problem continues delete app then install it again , If the problem continues go to recovery mode and choose wipe data partition then reboot system .
If you can’t solve the problem in any way you should format ( reset ) your phone or flash a new official ROM .
Other Information :
After update or flash a new ROM it’s better to format ( reset ) phone to get pure system to avoid many problems such as overheating or bad charging.

Was really a great phone until updated to 4.3.
It's not as fast and responsive as on 4.0.4 anymore.
Now all the time S3 is running out of memory, the apps are crashing while being used. S3 has now lot of lags and works much worse than S2 of my wife.
Samsung, what have you done? Does the update have to force S3 owners to buy a newer flagship of Samsung? You're dreaming! No trust anymore.
I'd like to go back to the 4.0.4 firmware.

Yes that is true ........ android version ( 4.3 ) has become more battery consumption because of new bloatware apps and services ( Samsung & Google ) were added to ( 4.3 ) .... So you have to turn off manually all these apps & services to stop battery draining ...

Was a great phone until the Samsung update ruined it. Now has terrible battery life and nothing seems to fix it. It puts me off buying an S5.
