I always wondered why it takes so long to download the upgrade components through Kies, despite having a decent broadband speed.. :-) I checked the usage details on my router log and validated your comment, and found it to be correct... it downloads the whole 1.5 gigs of stuff each time!
So as per your opinion, if there is a case of multiple updates released for this phone, it would be fine to get the latest one through Kies, so that this can have a clean install of the latest firmware, the preceding updates can be installed via OTA, right?

i bought Galaxy S4 recently, specification says its internal memory is 16 GB but in storage property it shows only 8.9 GB.

If you have almost all the storage space occupied/full there's a chance that may be the problem.
For example: You have 9GB of storage for everything (as you don't have a microSD card) you storage in your phone (apps, media, etc), and all your files are taking up to 7.9 or 8.5+ out of 9GB. In that case.
The system should have warned you that you're running out of space, anyway.
It does is a problem to run out of space. But if the system hasn't warned you already and you don't specify how much of the memory is occupied, I can only guess.
If you want a more detailed yet simple info of your storage space available install FreeSpace app, it will show you.
Check the Internal and System partitions. If some of these partitions are occupied up to 85-90%, this may be the problem.
But is kind of rare that the processes you mention are slowing down. Use MX Player, for videos it's easily the best. Also check for processes running in the background. As you say you have many apps there's a chance these apps have processes running thus using RAM and CPU resources. The only reason a system like Android slows down is because it's running out of storage space and/or RAM, having a good CPU.
And, the SD card I recommended you definitely will be a good purchase, get the 64GB Class 10 one if you can, save if not, then get it. It won't make your device faster by itself, but will free up internal storage space, thus keeping enough space always available.
Don't know if you have already updated to the version for the S4 that allows moving apps to the SD, that is a good thing.
You seem to be a very novice Android user, keep asking and you'll learn.

so don't worry . you would be satisfied with the internal memory.
i don't think 32 GB will be released soon. so don't wait for it.
