Samsung Internet browser v7.4 Beta brings handy new features

Ro, 07 June 2018

If you are a Samsung user, you've probably already tried the Samsung Internet browser, and if you did, you've noticed that it's not your usual pre-installed bloatware that OEMs usually put on your phone. Well, to be fair, Samsung does that by pre-loading tons of other apps on your Galaxy handset, but the browser definitely isn't one of them. In fact, it seems to be a pretty good alternative to Google's Chrome.

And if you are a fan of Samsung Internet, you can get a taste of the latest features that the v7.4 Beta brings.

The most notable feature is the enhanced Intelligent Scan. Users usually use it for quick logins, Web Payments or enter Secret Mode with a touch of the fingerprint scanner or scanning your iris. Now, users who have Galaxy phones with Intelligent Scan support can fully take advantage of the feature inside the Samsung Internet browser, which utilizes both iris scanning and face detection for an added layer of security.

Another cool new feature is the so-called Reader Mode. It provides users with a distraction-free reading environment that can be customized - users can change the font, the size and the background color.

History of downloaded apps is also added. You can now search for recently downloaded files, delete them all at once or share some of them with friends.

Along with these three features, Samsung Internet adds some regional functionalities. For instance, the US-based users can set notifications for viral news from their favorite websites. In India, the download section is enhanced and can be customized (i.e. the default download folder can be changed). Whereas in China, a new "Trending now" section searches for trending words in Baidu - the news stories can be quickly accessed by just tapping the keyword.

The update is likely to come to the standard version pretty soon and since Samsung made the browser available for non-Samsung devices, go check it out.

My new S9+ came preloaded with Chrome... No sight or mention of its own browser anywhere... What an irony, 'cause Samsung know what's better haha

Ditto to all you have said. I use it on my LG G6 - fast & smooth with easy access one-handed controls along the bottom.
