In switch off mode press vol top arrow+camera key+power button at the same time. U will see new screen on ur phone which says download thn attach the datacable and follow the steps.

king, 16 Jul 2009oh and another thing. don't know whether it has happened on... moreYes u r rite screen has shrinked from all side but dat is quite negligible, after all we gt a amazing new look for ur phone. Wat say?
And my phone is able to communicate with PC Studio, no problems found.
Games and applications easily able to install now.

Complete step by step procedure to update ur firmware:

1. Visit this site http://firmware.javer.sgh.ru
2. Scroll down and find ur model i.e S5230
3. In S5230 select file with firmware code S5230XEIG2 (latest update)
4. Side by side download Multiloader 5.56 http://www.4shared.com/file/108661971/26431632/MultiLoader_V556.html
5. Make sure Samsung PC Studio is installed and communicates with your phone (DO NOT FLASH WITH THIS PROG. RUNNING!).
6. Unpack the firmware in a folder you can easily find it.
7. Remove the Sim and MicroSD from your phone and replace the battery.
8. Now press vol top button+camera key+powerbutton at the same time in switch off mode without attaching the datacable.
9. Soon u will see a new screen which says Download.
10. Now attach the datacable to the phone and open Multiloader which u donwloaded earlier.
11. Select the radio button that includes MSM6250/MSM6250A for S5230/5233 (Samsung Star)

12. Select Boot Change and Full Download.
13. Then click Boot, and select the boot files from the unpacked firmware folder.

14. Click the Amss, Rsrc1, and Rsrc2.
15. Select (Low).r2c NOT (Mid).r2c. (Phone may not restart if you select mid)
16. Then press the Factory FS tab, and select the appropriate files from the firmware folder also.
17. FOTA and ETC fields are left blank.

18. Click the Port Search button, it will find your phone and show the com port is ready.
19. Click the download button and be patient, this will take a few minutes to complete.

20. When it's finished, it will show "ok complete".

21. Unplug the phone from the USB cable, reinstall the sim, MicroSD, and power up the the phone.
22. Now with every thing complete, You can perform a hard reset by typing *2767*3855# into the hand set (but not necessary.)
23. When the phone resets type *#1234# into your handset to check your new firmware ver.

Here you go. Fiemware updated.

king, 16 Jul 2009i had written a review on the features of new firmware s523... moreking plz explain step by step method to update firmware. i know there are many sites which are explaining the methods but i believe most of the users in this forum trust ur comments. So please describe the method.

anyway here's for u all again:
pros:
1.faster and smoother scrolling thru main manu.
2.new n improved main menu with 4 pages of icons and shortcuts.
3.a number of new games added like asphalt n millionaire.
4.several new widgets, most of dem need gprs.
5.loudspeaker volume has increased largely.

cons:
1.edge icon is always on. don't know why.
2.samsung pc suite can no longer detect my fone. but i use mass storage.

yeah it will void ur warranty, maybe, but so wat?? if its successful, it'll be worth the voiding.
use any latest firmware (XE,XX) does not matter if u're flashing it fully.

Hello. mine firmware is S5250CFIE8. Is it needed to be flashed with the new one? If I ask the official service of Samsung to do it? Just new menu or there would be a new features in it. thanks.

I too updated to the new firmware S5230XEIG2 successfully. Its awesome. New style menu, better than older version. But edge icon is on always, hw to deactivate it. Anyone faced same problem. Any new feature added plz update.
