Samsung U600

I have noticed one thing reading these opinions. People go on and on about the specs of this mobile and only compliment its ergonomics and usability when somebody is critizing them. Personally, I think is somewhat stupid to only look at specs. When I'm shopping for a mobile, I look for a mobile that is a pleasure to use and that looks nice. 3G, 3-5MP camera, FM Radio, mp3 player... all this things are nice, but they are really extras. Mobiles are for calling and texting primarily, and it seems to be that nowadays people are complimenting the most those mobiles that have great specs -- paying little or no attention to what really counts. This can be seen best with those who hype up every new Motorola mobile.
I think U600 is a really cool slider, but sometimes I guess people tend to praise it "for the wrong reasons". As for ergonomics, having tested it a couple of times I can defintaly say that they are questionable and this mobile is defintaly not for everyone. Some people like texting with that flat (okey, it's not complitely flat but come on... everyone can see that it's pretty darn near flat) keypad and some people don't mind getting used to the touch keys. However, compared to previous Samsung mobiles and most Nokia and SE mobiles, U600 can be a little bit ankward to use. And you are right to say that Nokia and SE mobiles do not have all the cool specs that U600 has... Then again, specs will always come second to how easy and nice it is to call and text with a mobile.

Sinq:...
Haha, u need to sort out your priorities, "its slim AND fat" ??
Please make up your mind!
A fact, its almost not any taller than for example SE K610. The thinner the better u know :)
U should tell that the K550i isnt even near the samsung u600 in specs!
K550i doesn't have a 3.2mpix, not a soundsystem of B&O (Ice), and so on..
So its all a matter of opinion, but if you should compare so do it with a phone thats similar, like the new SE K810 (talk about a thick phone, about 20mm.. and an anoying lenscover that isnt kind of slim at all)

Well.. thats WRONG actually!!
The "tocu-keys" are thw two at the screen-bottom! But the two with "phone symbols" on are kind of touch-keys!

kmg, isn't it obvious. Of course the touch sensitive keys are the two keys in the sides of that "i" key in the slider part. The ones that have that phone-symbol.

i'd still like a solution to the text sent tone. a better solution than put your phone on silent before replying, which really isn't practical
also i'd like to know about this 'wake up' feature regarding the alarm
proper bugs me that you have to set the alarm time again every night

I sell phones in a telecomunitions store in Portugal and i buy a U600. At first i was thinking to buy Nokia 6300 for is look slim, the color of the screen and resolution it's very very nice. Them i recive the U600 and it has love at first sign. Slim, very low height, nice screen and a very nice camera with a nice auto-focus. I have take some pictures very nice indeed and when open in the PC it has a quality amazing.
The negative points for me are: The alarm dont ring if you have the phone in silence mode, you can't open de galery with your photos at the same time that you are listen MP3 on the phone...but in resume the phone is realy amazing, Congratz for Samsung.
Just for note that my last phone it has a Nokia 6630 :)

The U600 is definately the best phone samsung have come up with so far. Its got all the features that the majority of phone have got now.. good camera, video, mp3, memory card etc plus they've listened to what the consumers want and added more things.. small things like custom folders for messages, own music as text tone and alarm.. i know its just a phone but its nice to be able to personalise it. I hear what people have been saying about being able to assign text tones to each person but I'm sure that will be next on their list.
As for battery life, at first I didnt think much of it but I've found that if the battery is run completely flat so you cant turn it on again then charged for a good 12-15 hours it does get better each time. I now get at least 2 days out of it and Im constantly on the phone at work.
Think its a fantastic phone, and they've also improved the touch sensitivity from the E900. which lets face it was way too sensitive..
Great phone.. looking forward for the release of the U700 yet curious about battery life on that with it being a 3g handset..
Only time will tell, yet definately would recommend the U600.
