I read that you can only answer calls with the slide up. Is that true and is that the same for making calls?

I've been doing product testing for ericsson for 4 years now and the samsung is definintely in the 95 percentile for quality when it was being tested. Design features performance were in the 90+ percentile. Not many handsets these days make that grade and thats from the big companies. It's real value for money.

Hi everyone. Can anyone tell me how the screen holds up with dropping the phone. Is it as fragile as the D900i? Does it crack easily? THanks

well, i went out and got one on optus... i am sooo happy with it!

yes, it's sensitive -but you get used to it within a day of use.

i don't know what people are complaining about the sliding mecahnism for because mine is smooth and feels secure. it does not shake/rattle. it is a small/slim phone and people sound like they're expecting it to feel like a heavy duty piece of machinery... boggles the mind...

the only thing i was hesitant about was the ui (i'm a long-time nokia/sony ericsson user) -but after 2 days i've no problems.

i'll probably check back every now and again if anyone has any questions.

I've just got my U700 yesterday in MAlaysia.
                YA>>it's available in Malaysia already.
Well, fingerprints is correct. It smudges and stain the screen. And this is the same for the ear thingy.

As for the shaky slider, i do not have this problem at the moment and it feels fine for me. I guess, there is some black sheep in the whole bunch of quality products though. It's not to be penalized. It's luck.

However, shall there be anyone who has the idea to clear the smudges/prevent them, kindly share.

One more thing, can we change the theme?ONe more thing, does anyone have any problem with easily warm battery? Thanks.

I guess I really need to ask about how this compares to the N73, which is what I use at the moment. I guess I've had the N73 now since last December, would like something a bit smaller, and the N95 is so damn chunky. I don't know if there are any alternatives to this either.

For all those who are thinking of getting this phone then i suggest you look at other options, that is of course if you like fragile delicate phones that feel like they're about to break every time you slide it open. Who every said samsung had a reputation for quality assurance was highly misled themselves. The slide feels shakey, it rattles, it feels like a babies toy. We pay good money for these phones and i think we deserve the quality that we are assured. It sounds like im not the only one disappointed in the products resiliance either so the quicker samsung recognises this as a credible fault the quicker they can address it and keep their customers happy. Ive had a samsung before the build quality was fine. It seems as though samsung are spending more time on advancing their UI and neglecting build quality which they were once renouned for. Its not rocket science, just make the damn things work as they should. Shame on you Samsung.

this is one for all the girls out there who have/want this phone. If you have fake nails on then u will struggle to use this phone. the touch sensitive buttons are awkward to press and i find myself always eiting out of programs cos i accidently press a button without realising it.

How do you show the Album Art for the songs you're playing?
It is not sufficient to just put a *.jpg file there...
Guess it has to be named something special... Anyone know?

I have got to admit that this is a quite well endowed piece of kit.

Additionally, to princessme, god damn it child learn some shame, stop bragging about your upbringing on a phone review website, it is entirely inappropriate, and intensely aggravating seen as it really is no mean feat to have wealthy parents, even I had them, and in time you will come to realise that once your on your own, you'll have to start fending for yourself, and inheritance isn't going to allow you to glide along in life forever, especially not once the government have had taxed the crap out of it as is always the case.

Anyway, the U700, while being generally agreeable, has some minor issues which spoil the experience, in my opinion at least: Samsung phones generally have problems with the sliding mechanism, for example in the D600, the mechanism grated increasingly with extended use, the U600 has a sliding mechanism that rattles, and generally feels cheaper than intended, and the U700 suffers from the fact that one cannot slide the phone upwards without riddling the screen with fingerprints. What Samsung have to do now is to create a surface without the propensity to become plagued with smudges and prints, in the same way that they optionally coat glasses and swimming goggles to save the user from being forced to remove them and clean them every so often.

The overuse of screen material where there is no screen also means that ear prints are left after talking on the phone, which adds to my previous complaint

Hi guys. Got my U700 yesterday and Im totally hooked. Got no idea wat ur all complaining about. Got the Samsung original version ( Vodafone customized fones are rare in South Africa ) and everything about it just screams perfection.
Only downside for me is lack of TV-Audio OUt and FM radio ( previously had Samsung d900 and d900i ) but its not a major issue.
Alll siad and done i recommend this phone to any1 and every1.

I remembered earlier how somebody was desribing an issue of the orientation of pics were taken and how it was displayed. I think i have an explanation for it so here goes:

when a photo is taken using the camera in the usual way of holding it, its CAPTURED in PORTRAIT Orientation!

when that same photo is VIEWED on the fone its tipped over 90 degrees and is DISPLAYED laying on its side.

this was percieved to be a glitch/manufacturing fault. But i can safely say it isnt!
