JAD vs. JAR
=============
JAD files are info-files that store the location and MIME-Type of a JAR file. They are not actual Java-Files that can be played (hence the small size). They direct you to the download location and tell your browser how to deal with the JAR file.
JAR files are the "executable" Java file that store the application. The 903SH can only read protected files (.jar.huf). These files must be stored in a folder called name.JAV.HUF. This folder contains a series of other files, files that are necessary to identify your protected Java Games.
DRM (Digital Rights Managed) content is the original Java file, wrapped in a container that is locked (.HUF). The key, which is sent in a different file (separate delivery) or in the same download (combined delivery) is necessary to open the file.
Search this forum to find info on how to sync your Games Folder to the miniSD card. After you have done the "0111111" trick (search for 0111111), you can then download and sync protected JAVA files on your memory card. Some protected files are available for download online.
Do the trick before you download your new Java Games from Vodafone Live. Once you download a file you can then sync it to your miniSD and share it with us :)

ok, im dealing with another situation now...someone gave me a link to a site where u can dowload free java games for ur sharp 903 right? i downloaded a few (they were really small files, less than 1 kb big which got me suspicious) and when i tried to transfer them onto my phone, either via bluethooth or datacable, the upload would fail...prolly because the were jad files and my computer didnt recognize them..i renamed one and the transfer was successful but the phone didnt recognize the file..does it have to be saved in a special directory just like with the videos? and is the only way to do it via a card reader? please advice..thanks

Personal experience: Recording is better in ASF, but if you encode movies use 3GP.
I found the ASF encoder good in picture quality, but it doesn't sync well with the sound.
3GP Hi-Quality is excellent to encode movies, with the best sound codec available: AAC.
So, record off your phone with ASF, but use 3GP for movies.

I followed ur instructions, downloaded 3GP Converter 0.31 and used it to convert a few small video clips to 3gp format and they play great..i also bought a card reader from ebay so i can mess with the mini sd contents..i do have another question tho, which file type do i choose to store the video when i feel like using the video camera..which is better quality wise?...thanks again for ur help skater dude

Haven't had this happen to me. If I have no reception the LED blinks green/yellow/red.
Is it locked? Has it been barred?
Can you give me any information on what happens when you do turn it on?!

Well, if you convert your files to 3GP it can be in the regular Video Folder.
Get a card reader anyway, it's the best thing since sliced bred (respectively). They are so cheap ($10 ebay) and really useful.

Hey can anyone help me ?i have an SHARP903 and when i try to start it up it dosen't work .the red led on the side of it is blinking ..i don't know what's wrong .can anyone answer me ?please

Darn, i guess i need to have a card reader? all i have is a mini sd card and some adapter that turns it into an sd card for digital cameras...so far the only way to transfer video files onto the phone was via data cable...no wonder i couldnt transfer the video from "my videos" into the sd_video folder...is there another way to do this? or do i have to have a card reader....thanks for ur time

UPDATE: SD_Movie Folder, MP4 & 3GP

My last post wasn't all that clear. ASF movies need to be renamed to MOL001 etc. and put into the SD_Movie Folder.
This folder isn't on your SD-Card by default.
To create it:
1. Open your 903SH camera > switch to Video
2. Options > Record Time/Size > Extended Video
3. Choose QVGA (asf)
4. Record a few seconds of video and save it (can only be saved to SD-Card)
5a. UK Version: Go to Entertainment > SD-Video and play file.
5b. JP Version: Go to Media Player > Video > SD_Video
Take your SD-Card and put it into the Card Reader. Open the card and you will find this :
X:\SD_Video\PRL001\MOL001.asf
This is the SD_Video folder with the PRL001 subfolder. Anything must be placed into this folder and renamed to MOL001, MOL002...MOL999.
MP4 & 3GP
==========
Don't get these mixed up. MP4 is the core codec, but 3GP is the container.
(.mp4) extensions will not play directly. They must be 3GP (.3gp).
Use 3GP Converter 0.31 (free) to convert your files with AAC sound encoding!

MP4 & ASF Video

ASF files must be encoded with the SD-Video codec that is used in 3GP Converter 031. Once converted to 15fps, 320 x 240px you MUST rename them to MOLxxx (MOL001, MOL002 etc.) and put them into the SD_Movie directory on your SD-Card.
Tip: Take a short ASF video and save it to your phone to create the folder.
3GP Videos must be no larger than 320 x 240px, 15fps. DO NOT use 3G2 (3GP2) encoding.
These video-files must be put into the "Video" folder under "My Items". They can be named anything you like.
Download the free 3GP_Converter 0.31 to convert your files. It's gold!
I recommend 3GP over ASF as it has better sound-sync and is higher quality.
I can confirm that these work on the EU 1.046 & JP 1.072 version. Let me know what you run and I might figure out the issue if this doesn't fix it.

someone pls help? im trying to view video files on my sharp 903 after converting them to both asf and mp4 formats but they simply wont play..i dont know what im doing wrong..ive read some articles about having to create subfolders with certain types of name in order for the phone to recognize the video files? does it matter which folder on the memory card u save the files 2? please advice

hey i jus read ur comment's! same complaints about Sms! let me tell you da saloution! u know wat it's very easy wat network u usin? jus check der web site look 4 Active and GPRS settings page! type ur number! , Select your mobile manufacturer & Select your mobile model & dey will send u txt message bak! and den fallow da instruction and u can allow do send Sms more den 160 characters! bye.....

SMS messages cannot be longer than 160 Characters. This must a European standard, but I was sure it did that on my JAP version, too.
MMS messages can be up to 1024 Characters long, and they are virtually the same as an SMS, but sent via GPRS and they can also be formatted with HTML tags.

aMp, It sounds like you have the Jap version still on your phone... When I had the Jap ver on my phone after you hit the 160 character mark the msg changes over to a MMS. This is just a problem on the 903 Jap ver. I recomend flashing to the UK EU ver. This one will not have that fault.
To Ten, This sounds like a faulty flash file or a non compatable version of the 903 has been flashed to your handset. I had this problem when I Flashed November 2005 ver software to the newer Dec 06 ver of handset. Try flashing the phone again.. tel me tho... just above the IMEI, does this have a code that starts with either 2005 or 2006 and then another 2 digit number? eg: 200512? If this has anything like 200601 or anything with 2006 then u have this years phone and this phone needs to be flashed using Testpoits (opening the phone) and flashing normally will damage the flash chip in it.

I unlocked my sh903(Voda japan) with euro ver. 1.046. Why is it that when I am making SMS, when I had already typed 160 characters, it will change to MMS, and thats my very big problem. Can't type longer SMS and my MMS also isn't working...pls help...thanks...

What is wrong with your phone? Does it turn on at all? Try the following:
When you push the PWR button, take an extra close look at the screen:
- does the screen flicker once? This flicker is not bright at all, it is very subtle. If you can see this the phone is receiving power, but cannot boot. This happened after I unsuccessfully upgraded my GX20. A software repair can fix this.
When you connect the charger, does the phone charge? If it doesn't then the motherboard might be damaged.
Just because it doesn't turn on doesn't mean that the hardware is damaged. A bad file-system can crash the phone without even trying to boot. A correct file-system structure may allow the boot process to start, but an incomplete install might prohibit the phone from booting up completely.
Tell me a bit about it and maybe I can find a few solutions.

I guess my previous post was deleted so I can't get back to it. But, mobile phones are no different to other "computers". Of course, if the chip inside the phone was bad to begin with you would notice. Your phone would crash or have some sort of memory problems...
When you read/write any kind of information, this includes re-installing software, you are not physically damaging the chip unless the cable/powersupply would be faulty and emit an unusual voltage that could overheat the chip or cause unusual magnetic fields. This again has nothing to do with the actual process, but rather faulty peripheral hardware in the first place.
If you upgrade your phone at any OFFICIAL place (i.e. Vodafone/SHARP), then they should have insurance or some form of guarantee to replace the damaged parts/whole phone.
If the phone was faulty to begin with you would/should claim it on Warranty anyway.
If the place has no guarantee and specifically states that they are not liable for any damages incurred...bad luck. Though you can argue that it was due to their faulty cables etc... which gets messy.
Just make sure its approved by SHARP/Vodafone. In Australia Accor does all official upgrades.
