Pros: durable, very good battery, very good and quick keyboard, strong pocket torch, good signal reception, average camera

Cons: very slow browser, hangs out if you type too fast, poor screen sunlight legibility, GPS must be adjusted to work, you have to speak loud when using handsfree, no usefull screen saver (watch?!)

When you get used to it phone can become a quite useful companion for basic calls and messages. I'll keep it cos I need a sturdy and simple phone (forestry, wildlife photography)

Regards,
Teo

i have had the xp3 and i have to say its bloody brilliant ! feels great to use and its cool to be able to chuck your phone around without a care. All the features are very well thought out and thank god someone made a phone i can live with.It has a black list so you can bar selected numbers or a white list so only your mum can get through. It really is built like a tank and i cant recommend it enough. have a quest in the post woot !.I'm an apple mac junky but would take this over an I phone any day (in fact i have :)....

What is good about the phone.

          1-) First of all it is durable;
and I mean durable in all expects.
according to sonim website the keypad is tested for half a million pushes.
          the screen is scratch resistant.
you can drop it to concrete from 2 meters
          etc. etc.
for some users those rugged features are very important. this is why I got the N5140. and the money I paid for that phone paid back in a few cases. you can read my 5140 survival stories in 5140's page. (as the dude)

          anyway

2-)It has a very very very long battery life.

3-)The keypad is very large. Good for guys who have big fingers and have hard time messaging with a N 6300.
(I almost got a cramp, trying to press the # button on a 6300)

4-) and it still has a 2Mp camera, memory, gps, etc.

What is down about this phone

1-) it is big and heavy as hell, (but might become a martial arts weapon in professional hands :P )

2-) it does not look stylish like casio's exilim mobile which is also a "tough" mobile. ( and I personally hate casio for producing it exclusively for vorizon)
3-) and it is about $200 more expensive than I would be willing to pay.

Yet i would still buy it if I was a truck driver or something; despite the unreasonable price.

                Hi Guys,
Clearly its not a Buy for every Tom going to his office there.

I really want to have this phone because of its rugged features.

It will be a huge success if they Just enable it 3G as that's the future standard and WI-Fi Enabled. We are on the verger of WAN's. A 2009 Model Should have 3g and WIfi capability as Basic.

Also on Expansys they have priced it at $499/- So I guess I am just waiting it to be around $350/- and then am gonna just scoop it up .....

I love tough phones and Sonim really takes it seriously and I understand that it has to be expensive because production isn't for these truly tough phones... I want to buy one in the future when funds suffice... I love it Sonim hope you can come to the Philippines soon

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2009When will Sonim offer a cheaper model? with basic functions... moreDo you knwo how hard it is to make a phone waterproof?
not water resistant but water proof.
they have to be pressure tested and thats not mentioning the chemical treatment of the glass and the chasis.
if you expected to pay $100 for the most toughest phone in the world then you can go back to trolling the net for discount toilet paper.
you pay for what you get.
this is a great phone i would gladly pay $599 for it.

I brought back my sonim to you, sonim phones. Standby 36 h instead of 1500 h, no working GPS, screen not scratch-resistant, not according to standard menu-software: more flop than top.

When will Sonim offer a cheaper model? with basic functions: just call and SMS while keeping their strong housing and rugged style and performances.
XP3 is tagged at $599 on their website!!!! crazy

It would make sense to get this phone for outdoor weekend, I would not pay more than $100 for that.

my point is that a real adventure is to travel to a remote place (mountain, delta, forest, desert, savanna, ocean, cave, etc) where you should really use your survival skills and no basic confort could be found nearby - such as a cold beer in a fridge :-) or a 2G/3G antenna ... then, in a such a remote place, only a satellite phone may work... or not...

yeah, it's nice to have a phone to smash it to the ground or take a swim with...but by no means could be "the dream phone for adventuring" :-)))

Most networks have more 2G cellsites and most 3g cellsites support 2g. This is an adventure phone. It's that ugly. I kinda like it as it looks rugged. That's my style. When you're on an adventure or a construction site, you would just want to be able to call or text rather than be a geek and browse the net. You'll miss out on what you paid for or you could commit a fatal mistake in a construction site for example.
