        bernard,

i have the same problem. its currently in repair at the moment and im waiting to find out what exactly had happened during the exchange of simcards.

but anyway i got myself the n80i whilst sending it for repair. the n80i is a good phone even though im a SE person. i had my doubts on n80's but after the firmware update its going real smoothly. even though it lacks some features the k800i's have, its still a great phone.

i totaly have to disagree with GDOGGS obviously he has no idea what a phone should or shouldn't do , obviously hes been unlucky getting a faulty phone , but if you didn't know 5% of all phones manufactured have faults when they leave the factory. if your phone is shutting down and doing other issues
like that the phone is faulty, its not a inheirent fault of the handset , and he is wrong to slag it off. now he says hes had 4 replacments or something , does he know hes getting a new phone or a refurbished one. some of the biggest reailers in the uk will actually replace your faulty phone with another one which had also had a fault or been returned under 14day return policy . to be fair i sell phones and have done for the last 2 years since the k800i came out just over 6 months ago , we have sold hundreds of em , and little or none have
developed faults . in fact i've never seen a k800 get sent away for rwepair other than in accidental damage cases,

wicked phone theres pretty much nothing it doesn't do , ok so the video quality is not amazing , and the M2 is not that available YET, but after market manufacturers are producing them now so the prices WILL drop ,

Actually 3rd parties do make the M2 card in the form of San Disk

I've been using this phone for about 5 months now. I have to say the build-quality is very high, much better then samsung imo.

The pictures it takes are great! ( Just see the reviews ) It also has a good mp3 player, at least good enough for me: I wouldnt want to swap it for a W-series phone. If you want a good camera phone, i think the k800 is currently the best one on the market, when it comes to pictures.

The software tho, is a bit buggy: Tends to get laggy sometimes, switching the phone off/on solves it. After I made a call the button click-sound is gone ( ??? ). At one time it didn't want to play a file. I couldn't update the FW via USB cable -wich is included in the standard package-. The way it has to be done is for geeks only imo.

Another drawback is the Memorystick Micro M2: I buyed mine ( 1gb ) at "mediamarkt" here in Amsterdam, Netherlands, for around 65 euro's. ( around 90 USD, 45GBP ). Wich is expensive imo. A 1gb RS-MMC for my previous phone cost me just 23 euro's. The only brand that makes the M2 cards is Sony itself as far as I know. No 3rd/2nd parties make it ( yet ) The k800 is also one of the few devices that uses it. The 1gb M2card is the largest as of yet. I would like one with some more space! It would have also been a good thing if SE included a memcard in the standard package, but unfortunatly they haven't. The 64mb internal memory quickly runs out if you take a lot of pictures ( around 800kb per photo @ 3MP ).

Overall the K800 is a great phone. I personally like the design very much. It has a lot of great functions. The call volume is loud enough ( compared to other SE phones ). Call quality is also excellent ( I use T-mobile NL, 1800Mhz ). I would recommend this phone to anyone that likes to take pictures while on the move. I mean, who's wandering around with a digital camera all day? At least I am with this phone! =)

I really like this phone very and very much when I see it in the first time. Now I save money to buy this phone and I hope to buy it soon. But the problem is I want the good phone from the foreign such as UK, because the machine of the phone is good.

I have had this fone for 4 months now and it is rubbish, after 3 replacements I am returning to exchange for another fone. While the camera takes the most fantastic photos i have ever seen on a fone, and the flash is excellent; the software is slow and it keeps turning off, freezing and doing things on its own. I sit there and watch the buttons light up themselves. If you want a sony get a w series because just like the k750i this fone is crap unless you happen to get a lucky one. Also the battery is ok (2 days standby) in gsm, however in 3g reception the standby is lucky to be 2hours on full battery, this happened on all three handsets I have been given.
try a w810 or w850 if you must have sony.
Me im going to go get a samsung z230 for a quality phone and just by a good sony 6mp digital camera.

Hey,For all the people who wonder if they should buy this phone, they should, and as for people complaining about the call volume, its perfect to me,not too loud ,not too low, just perfect and loud enough for yourself to hear in any environment, the speakers are good for talking,as well as the mp3 player, its super loud, and the camera is the best i have ever seen in any phone, as well as the video camera as well, the camera actually beats the n93,n73,and n80 by looking at reviews of them, the design is perfect, has allot of nice features,a perfect phone to use if you especially have t-mobile,and want to travel overseas and use it,supports 3g,has nice communication signal, and is the best sony ericsson phone out there,Must BUY,Great PHONE!

hi...to all those who are still choosing between SE K800 and SE W810. i would recommend the w810.
No doubt, the camera of the k800 is certainly better than the w810 but there are other factors in which the w810 excels in. first of all the sound quality and loudness of the w810 is much better. The w810 is lighter and not so heavy.it uses a 5 way navigational buttons which are less prone to being spoilt compared to the k800's joystick in the long run. It also uses the widely known memory stick pro duo expandable memory which is now quite cheap compared to the k800's m2 which is quite new and prices hv not fallen. the resolution of w810's recording capabilities is much better than that of k800's ancient QCIF resolutions. and if you are talikng about how good k800's camera is, think again of how frequently you use it and whether you will be printing the picture becoz if you are just viewing it through the small screen of the phones, 3.15MP and 2Mp would not make much of a difference. thanks to all hope you have found this useful in your choice.

Ive had this phone for a few weeks and i can honestly say its the best ive ever had. The camera is amazing the layout is easy to use, its quick unlike the n series phones. the only downside is that there isnt a button to get back to the main screen

ok so youve wondered why sony have stopped at 3.2mp , well there is an answer if not a bit geeky........

lets start off with compact digital cameras :
the lteral size of the CCD ( light sensor) is about that of your little finger nail , it can comfortably hold 5 million pixels but any more and you start to get issues with a technical term called "noise" noise is caused by individual pixels misinterpretting the information that they recieve . mainly caused by the pixels being to small , this is because each pixel has a lens, the larger the resolution the smaller each individual pixel becomes ao the smaller the lens becomes and the less raw information( light in this case) the individual pixekl has to judge colour intensity . which in low light results in the digital noise ( which looks a bit like grain ) but is much more intrusive.

                                        now to the phone:

the chip in a k800i is smaller again about 3/4 the size of your little finger nail and any more than 3mp the noise becomes unbairable , you will notice if you ever print images from a k800i which have been taken in low light the noise is very apparent in darker area .

for all those wondering why some cameras have more res , well in all honesty its due to marketing rather than quality , it has been proved and www.dpreview.com will back me up on this that the vast majority of 7 and 8 mp cameras actually perform worse than 5mp cameras in anything less than perfect light conditions. Also just as apoint of reference the reason an SLR digital can handle more pixels is due to the physically larger sized CCD(sensor)

                                        so in conclusion ......

more pixels on a tiny chip means more noise and lower image quality .

( remember the LG with 5 which was utter rubbish)

lil stevey e ( sorry for being a camera freak)
