Having previously had Sony Ericsson's brilliant P900, I went out of my way to get this later offering the P1i. On Paper it's a better phone, but in reality, the quality is dismal from a software point of view. I need this as a tool. The other day a business acquaintance informed me that he had changed his e-mail address & phone number. I made the changes in his section on the calendar & the phone crashed. This unfortunately is a regular occurance.
I went to Sony Ericsson's update service in the hope that this would solve this. Instead this would not restore the memory after this (even though I followed procedure thoroughly). Their UK call centre proved to be unhelpful & disinterested.
If there were half the gimmicks, but higher quality like the P900, I would be happy but Sony Ericsson made a bad phone here in spite of what these other reviwers may say.
Also I'm on their second phone on swop outs, so this is not a once off.

Used to have the P1i before and it was a nice without problems phone but the lack of flash player support pushed me to Nokia.

here again to talk explain my past issues with the p1i
first off as i stated earlier this is a great phone just that i had a bad experience with it. i am on th fido network in canada nd after speaking with the employees i was informed that teh reason why i have poor signal reception is bcuz you get teh best results on their network using a quadband phone, as for teh resale value of the phone i am acrually good friends with the owner of the store and he knew b4 hand about the screen and as for teh stylus never bothered bcuz that can be replaced i just have to add that a few weeks earlier he told me i could get half my moneyback($250) to put towards another phone but then after checking out other gsm cellphone stores i realized he gave me the best offer(couldnt argue bcuz down here getting 50% back is a deal. every store told me how a few months after the phone was released teh value dropped drastically. finally as for the xperia and e71 ive never had an issue spending $400-$600 on a phone but i kno that went the x1 comes out its going to be in the neighbourhood of close to a grand n in my opinion no phone is worth that much/ keep in mind im not buying the phone bcuz of all gizmos and gadgets i look for an appealing phone that gets teh job done in style and then some n once again no phone is owrth a thousand bucks or close

        just my 2 cents

if any p1i users can help me - i heard that you can download & install GPS function to this phone, is that true? if so where would i be able to download it? also, i've downloaded p1i themes but dont know how to install them. cos if i just save it to my phone, it's just a folder with separate pictures & doesn't work as a 'theme'. any advice would be great! thanks in advance!!

I also have that hanging issue once every couple of weeks. Had to restart but the software never crashed.
Else, Its a cool one and i am looking forward to the next version.

nah didnt broke any stylus here and havent had trouble with the screen..its not about the cellphone..its about how the user use the cellphone and how he/she maintains it and this where the price is based if you sold you 1st hand phone..this is where the price takes place..the price would be low of course coz u got ur screen broken and stylus..careless

Anonymous, 16 Aug 20081. never heard of anyone (who actually has a P1i) that has ... moreI agree with u. P1i is great phone and uncomparable with Nokia phone. Nokia is just boasting about their E71 but most of features doesnt work as they claim. I have been using p1i since one year and didnt find any problem with signal reception and touch screen. But phone's stylus got broken twice due to my careless usage. Otherwise it's good. I am very happiest man to have p1i. This is my 2nd p1i and first one fallen into water and couldnt get it repaired due to non availability of skilled technician in the country where i presently live. This phone is ease to use and qwerty keyboard is really amazing and fast. P1 doesnt hang like nokia. Only drawback with UIQ3 OS is that voip doesn't work in GPRS mode but works very well in wifi mode. I love P1i. though i was a die hard fan of nokia but now i cant even imagine to have nokia phone anymore. I recommend p1i to those who are mobile freak and use instant messenger and email most often. Two of my friends have purchased p1i after seing my phone's performance and they are very much satisfied. Have a nice time with p1.

Anonymous, 16 Aug 2008hello my fellow cellular mobile enthusiasts i would just li... more1. never heard of anyone (who actually has a P1i) that has a problem with touchscreen like you described.

                            2. I don't know what mountain you live in, but i had no problems with signal receptions in general.

                            3. I did broke my stylus once when I accidentally sat on it. But in a normal handwriting using a stylus, I dont know how you could have broken it since a very slight tap/brush on the touchsreen is enough

                            4. The value dropped significantly in your case maybe you had a 1.broken touchscreen and 2. no stylus? or was that the loophole that give away your made up story?

regarding ExperiaX1 and E71, there is another forum just for that. Besides, obviously you haven't researched enough. Spec wise, E71 is no match

heres a FEW to illustrate: (maybe you havent researched this? you should really try to read the phone specification first) i will only list a few important difference, otherwise the list would be so long.

                            Experia XI:
                            - TFT touchscreen, 65K colors
                            - 800 x 480 pixels, 3.0 inches
                            - Optical joystick navigation
                            - 400 MB internal memory
                            - 256MB RAM, 512MB storage memory
                            - Qualcomm MSM7200 528MHz processor
                            - Windows Mobile 6.1 OS

                            E71:
                            - 320 x 240 pixels, 2.36 inches
                            - 110 MB internal memory
                            - 128 MB SDRAM Memory
                            - ARM 11 369 MHz processor
                            - S60 OS

prove me wrong if u dare! :p

hello my fellow cellular mobile enthusiasts i would just like to give my 2 cents concernign the p1i ive had one for a about 5 months and had to let it go due to a few reasons
1.)touchh screen started to malfunction would go bad for a nuts for a few days and then return to normal
2.)its tri band(worst problem) id be in a living room and teh reception would flatline and id miss all my incoming calls
3.)stylus is cheap broke them both, didnt bother buying new ones
4.)value dropped drastically over a short period of tiem therefore it was difficult to sell bought for $500 sold for $150 to the same store

in all honesty in everythign else i couldnt ask for a better phone therefore i embarked on a journey to buy a new phone i was looking at the sony ericsson xperia wich seems very promising but then i foudn out about the Nokia e71. let me remind u all that i do extensive reasearch b5 buying electronics and ive been sold and plan on purchasing an e71 asap just read teh reviews urselfs thank you for ur time
