Hi, guys. I'm having trouble with the chinese handwriting recognition. It would normally work, but when I send a chinese e-mail using hotmail with the handwriting, the receiver will get all "????????". I've only send out e-amils that come out correctly twice. Do I have to download a program?

whats d purposes of upgrading d firmware?i've tried upgrading my p990 before n as a result my fon died..

Dear P1i users, hi
After upgrading my firmware to R9J005, all my original SE ringtones were gone except for only one ringtone (SE default). On the other hand, it seems that SE website doesn’t support my country so I can’t download ringtones from there. What should I do? Can possibly someone here, E-mail me the original ringtones? Or is there any third-party website to offer these ringtones? Please help me with this issue. Thanks in advance.

Highly recommended for people looking for a phone/PDA/multimedia device.
No problems with videos, music, PDA & phone functions.
Really excited what sony ericsson will make as this phone's successor. =)

izwan - many thanks for your reply ! Yes, sorted out the problem. I ahd set ' increasing ring' which stops any ringtone from ringing at all. All P1i users take note ! Apparently it's a SE thing.
Also got Bluettoth to work but it won't take contacts with JPEG photos taken by my Moto E2 - says the file is corrupt !
Keypad is great- no problems at all. I can't see why the keypad would be a problem for people .Works well as a 'real' QWERTY alternative.

i think u should try wifi..i wonder if we can use GPRS to make iskoot call.n for sure the telcos will charge 4 d GPRS usage

Dear P1i users,
I am unable to use fring for calling and receiving calls from skype and google talk friends. Whenever i try to call google friend it says 'This phone doesn't support VOIP in GPRS mode.
I too have iskoot for skype but unable to call skype friends directly,when i call skype friends,call connects to iskoot USA and i am charged for isd call. Same way when my friend calls from desktop skype to my iskoot skype he hears ringtone while connecting but gets disconnected with busy tone after few rings. At the same time i am neither busy nor getting any incoming calls display on screen. Why is this? any solutions to receive skype calls.i have receive call setup in iskoot.i am staying in central africa,zambia and using celtel gprs internet. Waiting for ur reply.

to newP1,check wether u accidentally set ur fon on silent mode..u av to explore everything in all menu.i av my fav tunes for ringtone without any problem.the most important thing is u av to explore ur own fon n u can get d best from it..gud luck

Some experiences about the R9J005 firmware: it is fast and more energy efficient than the previous ones. A recommended upgrade.
For Bluetooth problem: phone doesn't accept incoming connections, even when paired. Read back for details.
For info on features, go visit the official page and check the manual.
About Windows vs Symbian:
WM Pro: lots of programs
WM Con: instable, "turning off" is actually means turning off the display only, depletes in 1 day, have to do a hard reset often
Symbian Pro: stable, better battery life
Symbian Con: 1 feature/program for one function, very few really usable/good programs
Nokia vs SE:
Nokia has more programs available (S60), 5-way navigation key, but lots of low quality plastic.
SE has less programs (UIQ), but it is well built (aluminium front-panel, no slide) and touchscreen has become a must nowadays (it is better than the 5-way key...).
This is my first SE phone after Nokia's and there is an N80 and a PDA in the family as well. I would choose P1i again for sure. It became part of my days quickly and if I look on something else, I expect the same functions as the minimum (for example 4 days of battery life as the minumum).
Well, check it out in the shop before you buy, but that won't tell everything about it. All I can say you won't regret buying it after using it.

A very wonderfull smartphone from SE. The OS a bit slow but tollerable for me,the camera is more than enough (get ur self pocket cam/DSLR to shoot prof photos) and many thx to Gary for his masterpiece of GDesk,just like holding a little Linux :) For those who need a very usefull,good price,sleek & powerfull smartphone!!

Pedram, I'm not sure what you mean by life of the keypad or touchscreen. I wont have thought they're any different than the keypads (even though this one is slightly different than others) or touchscreens you get on other phones/PDAs. Talking about touchscreen, I'm sure the technology is mature enough to make the screens last a few years. By that time, you'll probably feel the P1i is horribly outdated with it's ~200MHz processor and ~160mb of memory, and feel it's time to upgrade. Maybe the norm at that time is 1Ghz/1GB on smartphones, who knows!
Anyway, one other thought - There are several smartphones in the market today with no keypad. So the touchscreen usage on them would surely be more than on a P1i simply because this has a keypad. And lemme say that this keypad is pretty good once u get used to it.
Regarding which phone to get (P1-N95-P990-N82). That's a choice you gotta make yrself. But like most ppl on the forum, I feel the P1i is a great phone with good features and a very nice form factor.

I would like to inform about quality of the battery life Sony Ericsson P1i, if you used 3G, hot spot, and multimedia, this phone still No. 1, if you not believed’ please you check in this web GSM Arena with another brand, and Thank you for GSM Arena because I can compare and fine the mobile Phone before buy.

Hello Everyone. I jsut got my Pi1 yesterday .There are a couple of issues.
1. I cannot set any ringtone- Mp3 nor ringtomes loaded in the phone. When I test it by ringing my phone- all I get is nothing or the vibrating alaert if I set that too. Can you help ?
2.Bluetooth - paired OK with my Moto E2 but the E2 doesn't seem to be able to send anything to the P1i. ( No problems with Moto Bluetooth - used it many times)
Instead, the P1i shows up as a folder in my E2 - Internal and External .You can then copy and apste4 stuff that way .
What am I doing wrong ? All I want to do is to send my contacts via object push to the P1i and also songs .
Much appreciate any help on these issues.
