YES you can keep the memory card in the phone when upgrading, but for what really? In R9 the flip open animations are THE SAME.

I ve been using P990 for almost 2 weeks. The phone is excellent. I want to know is it possible to change radio channels using the wired handsfree button. The moment I press it, the sound gets mute. Pls. Help me Thks in Advance

I don't know about the warranty, but somebody told you something stupid...
It is pure nonsense to backup firmware since you upgrade it!
You should back up your PERSONAL DATA of course, i.e. contacts, calendar, tasks, and pictures, music etc. After upgrade all your personal data is removed. But all the system and all preinstalled applications are there!

does anybody know how to organise the P990's setting so i could press a button to change to a certain profiles... help please... i dont like being unorganised without profiles... Please Reply ASAP

I presently own a SE P910i and was going to upgrade to a SE P990i. But after reading about the Asus P525, I am confused and undecided on which to buy. Help if any of you have done a close comparison of the two phones. All the bad comments about the P990i have scared me off a little. VAL

question regarding the firmware upgrade
#1 uhmm, i heard from alot of people that before upgrading I should make a backup of my present firmware before upgrading to the new firmware, how to do it? thanks
#2 is upgrading your firmware can void the warranty of the phone?? thanks

get de p990 cos de e70 i knw a couple of ppl who ave de e70 and it has alot of programs but it gets stuck easily and its very weak and has slow internet processing and has some various "bugs" the p990 is a perfect phone rarley gets stuck and has brilliant internet and its a very gd and fast phone i love mine and i avent had any serious probs wid it and i can tell u its worth every single penny do the right choice m8:)

I waited for this phone for a while thinking it would be worth the wait. After paying a huge price and after all the problems. I am sorry I got this and should have kept the old model.. I asked for my money back and get excuses...please don't buy this ..

well if it does black out just start the procedure from the begining. and also once the new FW is downloaded to the pc it stays in the update folder meaning that u'll be able to update anytime without the long downlad. and more, if anyone wanted to help then just post the update folder to a file sharing site. It'll be about 100 Mb but can be split into smaller parts. just copy that folder and replace urs and its done. no need to download from slow SE website directly!

To ALL WANTING to update the software:
If you have a computer and USB cable provided for P990, you go to www.sonyericsson.com, choose your location and than go to Technical Support. There is an update service there. Than - you DOWNLOAD the update service software directly from the website and FOLLOW the instructions directly. That's easy. Everything is described, so JUST FOLLOW.
TIPS: take off the SIM card and have the phone with BATTERY FULL Loaded.
Upgrade can take about 30 - 50 minutes.

you want to update your P990i don't worry it's a very simple procedure all you need is:-
1-USB cable for the p990 (it came with package)
2-a computer with an internet connection(Broadband preffered)
3-download the update service program from this link(http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=ae&lc=en&ver=4000&template=ps7_1&zone=ps&fid=21839&numItems=18&esi=true)
-install it-start it and the rest is too easy the program will tell you what to do
-just in-case you won't understand you need to do:
turnoff the phone take the SIM out return the battery press and hold 'C' plug the usb and press next and when it start updating just don't touch it, it will take some time(according to your connection speed)
i have broadband 512kbps it take me about half an hour.
any P990i user needs help just ask don't hesitate
