I have exactly the same problems as Olafur.
This is the worst phone i have ever had the misfortune of getting.I have been trying to get MMs & WAP settings for my P990i for 3 months. Sony Ericson tells me to contact my sevice provider, while they tell me to contact Sony Ericson. The service has been absolutely pathetic as well as the phone. An absolute waste of time & money. I will probably get better service if i was using smoke signals.

VieLz: it's because the P990 is already 1 year when it is lauched in the market and 2 years since it was introduced. SE is now planning to produce it's new successor within the months of october to november since it is commonly SE's schedule to release P-series smartphones like the one happened on P900/P800. and the good news is that the symbian UIQ platform will be renewed and will be more capable as a part of SE's aquisition of UIQ for further improvement. SE learns from Symbian's Ltd mistake=D

the rapidly price fall of the P990 is typical with anyother sonyericsson phones as of now.

does updating your firmware reset the phone and you lose your settings/files etc?

            To gameredge:
You can download the latest firmware just on www.sonyericsson.com and go to the Support, where you can find the update service. And yes, it is safe to download from this site - I did it.

ELMZ, it is true that the vendors at Greenhills have the same suppliers, but it is quite untrue that they connive to get a better price. The suppliers have a set price to all the vendors. It is then up to the vendor to price the phone unit.. Keep in mind that the suplliers at Greenhills only profit a few hundred pesos per unit, but they sell many of them. My advice is to go directly to the supplier and purchase the phone if you want to save a hundred pesos or so.

                      Hi Matt,

I think a 24k P990 in greenhills is still overpriced. I usually visit greenhills every week to see if there's a N95 already. The most affordable amount for P990 I found is 21k. Stores there have exactly the same supplier, they connive to get profit so be careful

matt-- From what I know the vendors at greenhills are now required to have a NTC sticker placed inside the housing behind the battery. If this is true it will be difficult to tell if it is brand or recon. It is possible that for 24thsnd the unit you were looking at is a brand new one. However, it can be an overstock of the first batch of P990's that had a number of software issues. For that price I myself would opt for an ASUS P525. Same features minus 3g and qwerty, but the ASUS is a much more stable phone/pda. Not to mention it is A LOT FASTER than the P990. I owned a P990 last year and was quite disappointed with the phone. I have the ASUS now and I am very satisfied. The most complete and reliable smart phone that's on the market. Good luck with whatever you decide.

reaction to the post about New n series...

features as of the combined N-series of nokia will eventually kill it's market profit. after 5 years we'll see nokia's stock market going down rapidly. and it can be it's end... poor nokia=(

                                reasons:
high price - not all people were gonna choose to have everything because most of the consumers were mid rangers. with this kind of attitude made by nokia, it's gonna be killing it's own market. very impractical imo. though i like it feature packed.

OS capacity not that much. the most reliable and flexible platform as far as mobile phones are concerned was the windows CE platform. windows knew it'll be impossible to attact everything inside a phone as computers can't do that. symbian s60? just a big question regarding the capability of the processor and the OS. it may have every screwing issues for sure.

                                    Hi guys

I am very happy P990 user last few months I have started to unlock the potential of the device, got a 2gb card uploaded some movies and mp3''s to it and its great when im bored at work - well dont tell my boss! Also bought a few items such as a car cradle, new case, spare battery and desk/car charger and the phone is working perfect!

One thing I havent managed to sort out yet is a SatNav application , I have ordered a GPS receiver and that wil be here in the next few days. But i have no suitable application installed? Any suggestions? whats everyone else using of they are using satnav on the lovely p990? I have been on to Nav4all.com and its ok..but i would prefer something more easy to use like TomTom? Now ive heard that TomTom Mobile 6 is not compatitble with UIQ devices is that true? The website says NO but other sites give conflicting info and that it does work! I also dont really fancy paying too much so if anyone can recommend where i can get something suitable I would be very grateful.

Any help would be very much appreciated..thanks in advance!

to matt: the phone you saw for 24k may be brand new, the only way you can check if its recon or refurbished is to check the condition of the phone itself, there is a possiblity that phne may be new but it doesnt have a warranty for SE thus it may not have an NTC sticker on it, if i were you, dont buy it, u may regret it later, rather buy one at a local SE or p990 with 1 yr warranty by sony, gt mine with r7 spftware fo php 29k+++ and it works fine

                                      cheers
