Mobile phone retailers Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U have temporarily withdrawn the Sony Ericsson Satio smartphone from their stores.
Both companies said the move followed complaints from customers about software problems.
Phones 4U announced its decision to stop selling the handset 24 hours after rival retailer Carphone Warehouse.
Sony Ericsson said it was "giving this matter its utmost priority and working toward solving it".
None of the companies involved gave details about the nature of the fault but Satio users online have been complaining about frozen screens and problems with ringtones.
"Now on my second Satio and it still has the same issues," wrote Iain H on a handset review site. "Screen freezing and no ringtone. Only way to solve the problem is to take the battery out."
He added: "I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem."
Sony Ericsson recently announced a new smartphone model, the Xperia X10. It is the company's first Android handset but it is not due to go on sale until 2010.
Verity Burns, a technology journalist with gadget magazine Stuff thinks the problem lies with how the Sony Ericsson user interface interacts with the Symbian operating system on the phone.
"The phone seems to be turning itself off when people access certain applications but not everyone will be affected. Vodafone and Orange run their own interfaces and don't seem to have the issue."

got my satio,,, wow what a ph,,, gr8 pics ,,, gr8 ph,,, no probs at all,, battery lasts 2 days with mod use,,, just gotta figure out how 2 use it lol,,, helppppppppppppppppppp lol

everything is ok but as far as battery is concern it is not so good secondly it 12MP is not so good as it will be

There is no such thing as the "best" or "end-all be-all" phone in this world. I have a Satio as well & to be honest with you. It has crashed on numerous occasions. After crashing, you need to "Remove batt, reinsert & switch ON again." I kind of expected it as this Symbian touchscreen OS is new to SE. One thing for sure, Nokia has much better after sales service than SE. At least they bother to upgrade their software. Satio has software issues & I am waiting for their new software. Satio has been removed from retail outlets in UK citing "handset problem" & especially the Black version.Btw, mine is the Silver. Don't ask me what colour has to do with it. Having said that, if you unlucky you can also end up buying a "lemon."

Well I have this for a while and didnt have any major problem :)Everything run fine as promise just waiting until I can insert my 32gm sd to see it is running and for the application I see some Nokia application can run in satio so no major worry about application and I already got my bible application

Why do SE make phones you can't use unless you have the sim iserted. If i want to use this as a camera (because the camera kicks ass big time!) just for a day and use my old phone for calls, I can't.

Hey all. I've been using nokia mobiles for a long time and to my knowledge gone are the glorious days of nokia. They aren't concentrating on quality and there are exists too many problems using nokia high end phones. I've got satio and it's simply "THE BEST". I recommend sony lovers who wish to buy high end mobiles, please go for satio.

there's a lot of bugs...i have it 2 weeks ago...but works for only 4 days...now i use my old k800...the seller returned my money...think twice before u pay the officially delayed phones...
