To 5ushi,

Thanks for your experiments on the sound quality of teh phone. I have almost completely filled up my 1gb M2 card with mp3 files and same experience like yours. but i was happy to learn about your extensive research (congrats)which is really helpful to all 200i users.

So can you please let me know how to set a sampling rate of around about 128k-192k, so minimise playback errors (as per your suggestion earlier)!! I will be very happy to do my R&D on that and reduce this errors of failure.

For people asking for more storage, I have a simple clue of getting 2-3 extra 1gb cards and use them as you want from time to time. How about that? That will make it 2 or 3 GB, but two drawbacks of preserving and changing the cards frequently, may definitely give annoyance!! But not to the music lovers i guess!!! Enjoy W200i really ROCKS!!

After some long, gruelling experiments, I can quite accurately confirm that the high-pitched sounds that the WALKMAN sometimes produces is due to the file being:

    1. Too large
    2. Having a sampling rate that is 320k (or higher, or having a sampling rate that is below 64k).

I have noticed that, playing songs with a high sampling rate (file size about 12MB for 4 min), are about 3-5 times more likely to cause playback errors (eg strange high-pitched sounds, (and maybe FAIL message, which I have yet to experience)).

As a result, I suggest that W200 users to use a sampling rate of around about 128k-192k, so minimise playback errors.

I hope this proves helpful - and also try checking for firmware updates often.

I HOPE SE FIXES THIS WALKMAN PROBLEM UP SOON, ALONG WITH THE ANNOYING BACKGROUND HISSING THAT ALL WALKMAN VER.1 PHONES STILL EXPERIENCE~

Well, thanks guyz for your contributions. I will not be planning to buy 8GB memory for my phone anytime soon.

Still hoping that Sony Ericsson will increase more support for 8GB memory cards though... 2GB can be quite limiting nowadays.

Anyway, I still love my phone like I always do.

      >SE W200i is da best!

All W200 can support 2GB M2 cards as long as it has the latest firmware. SE has informed the public that the max capacity of the M2 card MAY be increased in the future with future updates, but we have wait and see... So far, all WALKMAN phones have a max of 4GB (except the newer ones like W200). My prediction is the W200 will go to 4GB max.

The battery info - I think you are right - I am confused with the INFOLITIUM that Sony CyberShot uses and the usual everyday Lithium-Ion Polymer. Check wikipedia.org

To guest, well guest this fone supports only 1gb mem card( supports 2gb if it is manufactured after oct2007). But if u want a fone with 8gb the cheapest solution is buying se p1i (which supports upto 8gb m2 mem card and 1gb card is include in the box).

To jp, if you download the latest then the older ver will be deleted.
If you are using the latest version then if you try to search for new software then it'll show you 'you are already using the latest software'. You need gprs active to search software

Well P@in, if you do not believe me, check the internet! I have searched several websites and I am extremely sure I am right.

I got 1 thing to ask about this phone though:
Does it support 8GB memory stick micro (M2)? I think that 1GB is simply not enough for me and I really need about 8GB of storage.

Oh yeah, I just wanted to tell you guyz. I have just exchanged my battery for a new one and it lasts very long now (up to a full day of listening MP3 through earphones). I simply think that that is something all of you should know about using Li-Poly batteries.

I have read that Li-Poly (Lithium-Ion Polymer) batteries must not be completely drained out. Otherwise, they will not return to full capacity. My previous battery (when I first bought my phone) was completely drained the day I purchased it. Therefore, this might be causing it not to hold a lot of charge.

Here are some tips when buying your phone and after you have bought them. When buying your phone, IF THE BATTERY IS COMPLETELY EMPTY, DO NOT ACCEPT IT. Ask for a replacement battery. Also when using your phone, DO NOT EMPTY THE BATTERY COMPLETELY. I suggest leaving about 10% of battery before charging it. Any less than that might cause your battery to drop below the safe voltage and make it never recover to full capacity again.

For your information, Li-Poly batteries (the battery this phone is using) do not suffer from memory effect. Charge it anytime you want and charge it often. Let's say you have to be out whole day tomorrow and tonight your phone has about 30% of battery left. Just charge it without thinking twice. People from olden days would ask you to completely finish the battery before charging it or it will spoil. But this new type of battery does the opposite: emptying it fully will spoil it. Only NiCad type have the so called "memory effect".

I hope I am not too long-winded here. Just trying to explain to you how to maintain your battery.

Peace out. W200i battery ROX! XP
