It is not possible to lock your folders (with a password) on the W200, and on any SE phone (I think). You should try the PC version of the update, by downloading Sony Ericsson Update Service, and that should get you the latest update - if it says no update required, then you have the latest update already...
When you are viewing videos in WALKMAN, it is not possible to use full screen mode (hope SE will fix this in future). However, you can use fast foward and rewind in WALKMAN video mode but not in file manager (non-fullscreen) video mode. The above features don't work in full screen mode (hope to see this fixed in next update...)

Hi all.
I'm thinking of updating my Siemens C65 to this beauty of modern technology.
But I have some doubts...
Some say the screen is crappy... I'm used to the 65k colors of a CSTN screen and I use it with about 10% illumination to save battery and, well, it's enough for indoors and it's irrelevant outdoors! So I shouldn't expect W200's screen to be so bad.
One main feature is the handsfree function. The siemens's is great. People don't know that I'm using the set in handsfree mode unless I stand more than 1 meter away from the phone. Since the main idea is to use it while driving, holding it with a thumb, should work unless the speaker gets covered . Does all sound come from that speaker? and if you cover the holes, will it be (relatively) silent?
The joystick is my main concern and the reason why I'm sending the siemens to the cemetery. How good is it?
The C65 one lasted me 3 years. I should expect about the same from this one... Am I being unrealistic?
The camera will be a great upgrade for me... considering I rarely used it, I should expect the same for this! ;)
The walkman feature sounds great, but these clicking sounds and noise in low volume music are also making me scratch my head... are they that severe? Do they occur in all phones or just some?
Alarms and organizer stuff look similar to C65's except that there no world map to adjust the time zone, however, there's the auto time zone which should take care of it.
And then, battery. I read some people saying that it doesn't last that long. The siemens guys said the battery would last for some 6h talk time and 250h standby time. With regular use (mostly standby) I can still get some 4 days out of it - a 3 year old battery. If the SE guys state that their battery lasts for 300h in standby. That's a 20% increase. So I should get it to last some 6 days (while new). Am I being too optimistic, guys?
Some other practical stuff:
- if someone calls you and the battery goes dead before you answer the phone, does that record get stored or is it like siemens?... it's like it never happened...
- low battery warning. Is it loud enough to be heard and quiet enough not to disturb a meeting?
- sms T9. Does it learn your habits and put most common words first (I think nokias do this) or does it always show the same alternatives in the same order (like siemens)?
- games. can I just copy jar files to the games folder and they are ready to run? my favorites are the classics tetris and video poker.
- music. Can the walkman have MIDI files in the playlist?

Just noting the camera - I think that it is THEORETICALLY possible to take the 0.3 camera out and fit the W200 with a 1.3 MEGAPIXEL, over-riding the camera driver with the one from the K510, meaning that you have a decent quality camera on the W200 as a result - this is to be tested...
The phone will not over-charge (unlike some Nokias and some Samsungs). Nevertheless, caution is required... Charging the battery for around 6 hours makes sure that the battery is fully charged, with no 'empty spaces'... I recommend charging this phone for around 6 hours, BUT NEVER OVER 12 HOURS.
Keep the 128MB card - or you could try selling it on eBay (though nobody will buy it...)
As for downloads, go to google.com and search W200 themes. You will be able to see a sight from myliask.com (or similar, don't quite remember...) Go in there and themes galore~ (and other phone material)

1. CHARGING:

I charged this phone for 9 hrs. (9.30pm to 5.30am). I guess while charging is done in 2-3 hrs., the phone automatically stops charging once done. Is it so or I have overcharged the phone. I guess SE should make alarm system or we can set alarm on our own while chargint the phone for 2-3 hrs? Can you tell me what is the best time/system for chargin this phone while the indicator is almost 1 (last).
2. MEMORY:

Thanks 5ushi for your detailed answer for memory card. So 1GB card will be fine. Here the price is Rs. 800/- ($18). I am planning to get it soon in 2-3 months. What to do with the 128 mb card? SE should give 1gb card with the phone by adding some price of the 1gb card. Its really boring to change the mp3 files everymonth with 128mb card which can store only 20 mp3 files!!
3.THEMES:

Please tell me how many themes are there for this phone. This phone is having around 5 themes including SE default theme. Please give me the url which gives around 100 themes.

I bought mine for $90US back in June, and it costs around about $105US in New Zealand at the moment...
As for the 2GB card, it is true that the phone will move slower with the larger 2GB M2 card, due to the fact that it has a larger area to look and scan around for files etc... This may increase the chances of the W200 to get frozen (or white screen of death). Nevertheless, 2GB are supported, and SE is planning (I believe) to make the W200 capable with 4GB M2 cards in the future... I use a 1GB SONY M2 card, and I have experienced some problems with it (FAILED PLAYBACK of songs that were playing normally, abnormal sounds from WALKMAN)... I think that these problems will become more frequent with larger M2 cards, unless the newer firmware have the proper fixes... So, I suggest you wait another 3-4 months to wait and see whether SE will release a new firmware that will increase the max M2 size while fixing the slow speed and error problems..

Hello... I bought this phone last 2 weeks... Ia like nokias menu... this phone is S. E. menu, and I don´t like. The sound quality is average... for 40 sound, is good. and the loud, is good. The display, have 64.000 colors, btu the type is UBC and not TFt, and the resolution is not good. The weight is good, not fat. The camera is average for VGA qualit. I don´t like the joistick system like this W200. The wap and internet configuration is very dificult... the nokias is very simple. The speed is normal, not fast but not lag... The simbols of insert text is very bad. the numbers are the end of list...
The constrution body is good... and the battery is normal... is during 3 days with litlle usage...
So... is good for litle price.... in Brasil, ist´s coast U$ 162,00,, unlocked...

Is there anybody using the 2gb card for this phone and happy with the speed I heard it can supporot 2gb but the speed will not be fine and the phone will hang while using a 2gb M2card. I am chaning my mp3s every month with the 128mb card came with the phone and still confused on getting the card whether 1 or 2gb for this phone. I got the answer from sony and they say 1gb will work and we say 2gb works with the new firmware whats this?
1. Sony on their website says, 2gb support.
2. Technical people sony says, 1gb.
Its a mystery which nobody can explain!! So anybody out there using the 2gb card and which firmware are you using? please tell me. Thanks.

This phone comes with the Bass Reflex earphones (HPM-64) and with the software CD
THe W200 can work with larger M2 cards (2GB max at present, and SE has said that may increase this in the future). The W200 can work with 1GB, and can work with 2GB with the most recent firmware.

I'm using 1G M2 (in fact 949 MB).and 700 MB music on it plays with no problem.good fone exept the casing, there is a gape between side orange cover and white portion so when i hold it and then push the orange area it makes a sound, that makes it look really cheap,also there is a wire-like nub inside the screen on the left side.
and i would like to ask from who told it's battery lasts a week that how he/she has used it in a week? cause mine lasts max for 3 days if i use it(not in stand by mode).
and last thing is about non-original memory cards,can they damege the fone or stop working after a short period?
i've bought a sandisk but it is made in china and has no logo or serial on it, my original card was made in taiwan!!
