the light problem is what SE set so you dont drain the battery. Under 3.5 bars of battery it will start flashing. With Vodafone you can get new firmware updates to fix this problem but i dont know when they will be released.

theo: I believe the reason they did this is because it is a power saving feature. You can view the screen with the clock etc. that you are talking about by pressing the orange walkman button while the phone is on standby after about a minute.

For those reporting the problem with the lights can you be more specific. Just saying "when I turn on the light" doesn't help. When you turn on the light as a torch? as the camera flash? also leaving your email address makes it easier for people with possible fixes to contact you.
Have you tried the software update feature of the phone to see if tyou have an old version of the software?

When we contacted Sony Ericsson they said that the light should not flash atall unless you have chosen SOS.

You should really say O2 Online as people may think you are refering to the shops which are not out of stock where as O2 Online are.
Maybe the light flashes after 10 seconds to remind you the light is on and wasting battery.

Hey I just got this phone recentley resleaed in australia and i've come across a problem with the light. When I turn it on after 30 odd seconds it will intermittently flash on and off. Anyone else have this problem. I consulted a person who owns a W800i and he doesn't have this problem. Could it be a software issue even though its hardware based?

They are out of stock with O2 at the moment but they definately did have them because I've had two already. I'm getting my third replacement now because all the problems they've had. They are out of stock at the moment now though because they told me my next replacement will be delayed because they are out of stock; but I am happy about this because it should mean I get one from the next batch which should be fixed.

Have had this phone a couple of weeks on o2 upgrade and have found no software problems at all. The phone takes great pictures and walkman is a breeze to use - disc2phone software very slow at transfering files so usb or memory card reader is preferable and much faster. 2gig cards available cheaply now so who needs ipods!

Just called O2 following from what TimmyBoy said and the woman I called said they don't have the phone in stock and never have done...now I know that's a lie...this is getting ridiculous.

Just obtained this phone. I have found no bugs but I do find the softkeys are a bit close so sometimes you hit the wrong key. There was a batch with the O2 software that had a bug but it has been fixed and O2 will happily replace any buggy ones.
I am actually impressed with the fact this phone checks to see if there is a newer version of it's firmware (software) as nearly all phones these days get released with a couple of bugs and you used to have to take it to a shop to get updated. SIemens has offered the updates on it's site for years and now the others are starting to follow suit.

Has anymone managed to install an application (.sis file) onto their w810i ?
According to sony instructions:
You can copy the SIS-file in an existing folder on your memory stick card. Open the file explorer on your mobile phone, go to the folder on your memory card, select the SIS-file and click on it. Now the install process will begin.
However, when I try this on the phone, all i get is the option to send the file. There is no option to run or install.
I do like this phone..but the more I read and play with it, the more I get frustrated with SE. Their QA process is disgraceful.

I think the reason there are so many bugs is because they put an update feature on the phone SE probabaly didn't worry too much about them because they could be fixed later on and so they could release the phone earlier.

For US Residents(2)
Like I said yesterday, this phone has software problems and will be solved by SE before local networks carry it.Whats the use of $500 phone if there are 'dropped calls'?
Using Walkman is secondary. All you guys can do now is return the phone to SE and they will reload the software.SE phones are known for software issues.

For all you folks in the UK, I have been speaking to O2 for quite a while now. First the W810 was going to be released at the end of March, then into April and finally in the 2nd week of May. There were a few that were shipped to local stores although they were snapped up as soon as they came out of the box (the majority of which found their way onto eBay). Today I called to see what other options were available for an upgrade but guess what, I was told that O2 phone sales now have W810's available for upgrade! So I should be suffering from all of the bugs listed on this site in around 3-4 working days :-)

I've had the phone for a week and I'm having the same problems as the person below. I have T-mobile and sometimes calls get dropped for no reason, also the right shorcut keeps going away.
