PG, 18 Mar 2012It's sad, really, that we 've purchased an Xperia Play, but... moreJust read @ Sony's Xperia Play Official Blog. Let's follow the example.

    Dear Sirs,
I would like to ask for native video calling in future OS updates.
Video calling – as we were used to having and still remains functional in other brands’ Android phones – just requires a software implementation.

Not everyone can afford data plans. Wi-Fi isn’t available everywhere and it is a costly “privilege” im many places.
Therefore, 3G “out-of-the-box” video calls as we used to enjoy in older Sony’s phones would be a great advantage for present and future users.

I am sure you realise how popular and common video calls are in many countries and how important it is to consumers to be able to place a video call anywhere, anytime, without further worries or needing to install 3rd party programmes.

Granting 3G “native” video calls to our phones would surely boost Sony’s sales… and not the opposite!

I do believe Sony ought to understand that REintroducing video calling on their phones will only benefit them.

It will mean higher sales/profits; more buyers and keeping/gaining happier customers who won’t consider buying or changing to another brand phone simply to regain something useful, cheap and comfortable that they’ve grown used to.

Thank you very much for your time and attention.
    Best Regards.

That is my case. I've stated it in Sony's Forum:
      http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/33775

That is the closest to Sony responsibles, I've thought of to make my voice heard.

I believe all Sony consumers who wish to have native video calling (again) should complain and express their views publically.

Mailing regular sony customer care won't do, they will give a canned response that 'sorry but this feature isn't available for your phone' and the issue won't go any further. It needs to reach someone who counts and can do something about it. Anyway, it will need a few thousand complaints at the very least for them to even consider doing.

            I'm all for it.
Is there an email address, Site or Official Forum where we can sign such petition?

I also wish Sony will implement native video calls on their phones, as others brands have implemented and as older Sony phones used to have.
Let's get video calling back on Sony phones!

sushi, 16 Mar 2012any upgrades on OS? I'm also waiting for the new OS (and Kernel) and for a new US (User Interface) in which Sony will include video calling capability. *fingers crossed*

I'm not holding my breath, though...

Getting video calls in our Xperia phones would cost nothing but a bit of software work/development.

If HTC, LG, Samsung and other brands have made it, there is no plausible explanation why doesn't Sony do the same.

As far as FM Radio... then Sony would have to include extra hardware to achieve that.
That is both more difficult ("construction/built" limitations) and expensive. And we all realize how greedy these compaies are.

Anyway, I hope they understand how popular and common video calls are in many countries and how important it is to consumers to be able to place a video call anywhere, anytime, without further worries.

Actually, granting 3g "native" video calls to their phones would surely boost Sony's sales... and not the opposite!

Don't they wish to be more competitive and increase their sales?
Or is Sony just too afraid of Google's strong tentacles?

Anyway, the reality is that the two most missed features, FM radio and video calling, are never going to be released for the xperia play or any future phones. Just take a look at sony's latest phones, the S, P, U and sola and you will see. At least video calling just requires only a software implementation, but even that looks doubtful. But one way to force the issue is if everyone emails sony directly, they may see the demand and add a patch for it. But fm radio? forget about it. It will actually require an fm radio hardware module.

Wow, so many FM fans, you guys probably have some really good stations. As i said, im my country it sux, ads most of the time, rest of the time useless rjs talking crap and rest of the time crap music playing. Why would i waste my time with that when i can listen to what I want? Anyway, I also have an MW600 which has fm radio built in, but i don't listen to it either. When i was a kid, i think back till around '98ish the fm stations were good, we had just 2-3 back then and i had an awesome little fm radio which was everyone's envy. good times...
