If you consider ICS or GB for ray - here are some differeces and similarities:
GB - older rom that suits older phone better. There is more free RAM (220+mb) and ROM (320mb user and 250+mb system). That means that Ray will handle games and apps better, it will demonstrate more of performance...so you dont get closed browser, launcher, apps...and you can record videos with lgcamera app on 14 Mbps and 256 Kbps without any problems (ofcourse you must root and change max bitrate from 10 000 000 to 14 000 000 and audio from 128 000 to 256 000). Stock camera app have own media profiles so it is not influenced by change...same for photos - change compression to 100,90,80. You have instructions on xda (Ray camera hq mod). Ray on GB seems like batterly lasts a little bit longer. Settings menu looks simpler than ICS, there is no "reject call with sms" option, no data usage monitor or limit....in one word, GB lacks few ICS new features - but nothing important.
ICS - new operating system that works great on Ray...but sometimes you can notice that Ray have minimal system requirements for ICS...so sometimes ICS will close your browser, launcher or app. Not offten, occassionaly! Battery last almost same like on GB. Not a big difference. If you use it - it uses battery - on both ICS and GB. Video with 14 Mbps is no go! 12 Mbps suits better. Video stabilization on ICS is no go. But there is Cybershot mods on xda so you can get better pics and video...it is very nice thing to have. Free RAM is 150-160mb... User space for apps is 400mb cca + system 150 mb cca...close like GB. ICS looks fresh and new. Have few new options and tricks but uses more RAM and performace in games seems a little bit worse.
So there is no big difference in GB vs ICS. Both are stabile and great. It is more of personal prefference what you like...so try both - there is no wrong choice. For now I will stay some time on GB - becouse of little bit better performance, more free RAM, more fre space, better performance in video recording and video playback...and little more of battery juice.
So you can see in my conclusion - ICS is almost to haevy for Ray! But avarage user will never notice it! Ray is still powerfull enough to handle ICS without big problems!
I didnt mention new apps that works only on android 4.0+
There is reason for that - that new apps for new android use more resources (more ram) so ray maybe dont like it - Ray likes better older apps. It is better if 2011 phone uses 2010 apps than 2013 apps that have in mind phone with 1-2 GB of ram and dual core procesors...
Apps Ray like are - quick pic, exdialer, dialer one, opera mini. Chrome on ICS crashes and cant even start - maybe if i did some mods to increase memmory cap...With mods and tweaks you can do a lot!
