Please note that the X1 available in most countries (X1i = i for international, as opposed to X1a for Americas) does NOT support UMTS850 although it does show UMTS850 listed in the config. GSMArena should change the spec to mention that 850hZ 3G support is available only in the American version! I bought this phone here in Thailand to be used with DTAC which uses UMTS850 and got scr*wed because of that...

First impressions after a day:
I owned the omnia and the Experia just blows it away.
The touch interface is almost as good as the i-phone (almost there but not quite).
Touch screen is still highly responsive and great!
The screen resolution and quality is clearer and better than the i-phone (which I have owned).
The build quality I find so far to be solid and very stylish (steel silver version).
The qwerty keyboard doesn't have a dedicated row of numbered keys but they are assigned to other lettered keys.
Certain symbols such as the underscore are accessed by pressing the 'sym' button which brings up an onscreen menu of other symbols that are not on the keyboard itself.
So in otherwords the keyboard is limited but satisfactory for short to the point texts and e-mails.
more to come...

Adrian, 20 Jan 2009Welcome to Windows Mobile. Every Windows phone that I have ... moreYes? I also did the same (returned it).
But, it seems to me that Omnia and and even HD owners complain much much less than X1 owners.
X1 is just unbearable.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2009Yes, I agree! I also had poor reception problems! Welcome to Windows Mobile. Every Windows phone that I have had (about 6) across the board had the same reception issues. I eventually gave mine back as it could not be sorted

The Sony Ericsson Xperia mobile phone is an extremely enhanced handset with a neat design. Thanks to Windows Mobile as operating system, the use of Office files and synchronizing with the personal computer is not a problem at all. The new panel interface of Sony Ericsson certainly adds to the user’s ease. The full QWERTY keyboard is nicely designed and works well, although the keys don’t have a clear tactile feedback. Sind the large touch screen is slightly higher than usual, the screen also appears to be somewhat narrower. The Sony-Ericsson Touchscreen responds fast and the high resolution offers an astonishing image quality. Read the full Sony-Ericsson Xperia test at LetsGoMobile and check out the Xperia photo gallery.

I guess the SE PR is pretty strong :)
All negative articles are gone about the X1!
That is the end of freedom of speach and freedom of opinion.
Pictures of cracked X1s - defected product can not be reported any more?

guess expectations are different for some people.
Some people happy with the X1 and some are very disappointed. I guess the reference also important.
If someone did not have a good phone since 1999 :) well that case X1 may be a fantastic phone :)
Typical complaints:
- reception problems (GSM and WiFi!)
- battery: poor performance, overheating
- cracked case
- low ring volume
- lousy speaker
- poor camera
http://www.slashgear.com/sony-...ing-2927945/
You type in cracked case X' into a search and you will see...
- slow performance
- hang ups
and some even go further:
˝˝ The Biggest High-Tech Flops Of 2008 ˝˝
Sony Ericsson Xperia X1
˝˝It may have been the most eagerly awaited telephone of the year... and it may well have been the most disappointing telephone of the year, too. Introduced in February with (almost) operational prototypes, the phone has only just become available in stores. Its “revolutionary” Windows Mobile interface was not only slow, but it also wasn’t any more functional than other operating systems from HTC, Samsung or Asus. And since there’s only one Windows Mobile model from Sony Ericsson, developments
for the proprietary interface, quite naturally, are scarce. What was supposed to be the ultimate smartphone is at best only passable, and at worst a total failure.˝˝

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970This is not the place for an unbiased opinion. You need to do research yourself to find out which features are best for you. Just because you lived with your mother until you were 40 and she did everything for you like dress you and feed you and bath you, does not mean the rest of the world will as well. Sometimes it's up to people to make their own decisions. This is one of those times.
If you still want people to treat you like a child and make up your mind for you I suggest you go to a phone dealership where they will give you an "unbiased" opinion.
I say unbiased like that because really they just want you to buy something expensive, so normally talk you into whatever has the biggest price tag.
