Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970What job? :)))
What do you do?
Give us your story! :)))

X1 is definitely not crap!
And I do not waist any money since it is free or it can be given back without restocking fee or other fees.

It seems like people are finally making more sense about this phone.

No one can deny the fact that this phone looks cool, but it is not really a touch phone.

You CANNOT use it right out of the box without the stylus. Period.

SE tried to get the touch UI and came up with big fat zero.

In a way it would have been better to have called it non touch and then surprise people with some the touch functionality.

OK, I can hear the crowd saying that you can tweak it, but come on people, this is an EXPENSIVE toy.

There is no reason to have to fish around the net for hacks to make it work half way decently.

But it gives a good idea. I use it all the time.

But, if you fail do not feel bad.
I Q is not that important, being nice, good, honest, caring etc.

Dio, 14 Jan 2009Its always between Sony Ericssson Vs Nokia. I totally agree... moreI do not do Nokia vs SE!

For long time I avoided even type other company´s name.

I totally against posting long Nokia specs here - unedited.

              What explanation you need.

Several people, not just me experiences poor reception (GSM and Wifi!!!!!!)

Battery also very unreliable. But some works fine - explanation?
I guess LI-PO battery manufacturing is not that great. Somebody suggested RAM leakage.

Cracked cases - you can see pictures posted all over. I guess HTC screwe..d it up or SE QA lousy.

              WinMo 6.0 and other bugs.
SE waited about 8 months and 1-2 weeks before Winmo 6.1 released the phone.
Bugs: I guess the reason for the long delay.

We, users have difficulty to explain the shortcomings.

Some people got good unit and some just hardcore fans. That is all. not too complicated. :)))

                    Top Ranking?

1: the ranking is totally unscientific - non representative.
(take a stat class if you do not understand)

2: somebody brought this up few weeks ago: votes below 5 do not count! Obviously the people who bother voting and had serious problems would vote below 5 - in that case their vote totally out of the result.

(I do not know the method and evaluation of the votes)

3: getting to the top is only matter of money - company reps can vote over and over again

4: non-owners, people who never seen the model can also vote - see Nokia N97 :)))

owners satisfaction can be measured but a much more complicated way!
                    Take STAT 101 class :)

I got the Xperia a few days back. Really nice phone, my first one with Windows Mobile. Upgraded from the P1i, which I thought was a fab phone, especially the keyboard on it. Anyway, my first impression of the X1 is good. These are my views from about a week of using this:
                              >> Black looks nice on most phones and on this one too, but I liked the silver one a bit more than the black one. It's actually not silver (like it is on P1i) it's a brushed champagne colour. The phone is quite responsive, thanks to it's 524MHz processor. Panels are a good idea but I mostly use the Sony Ericsson ones, SPB one (which I downloaded) and the Radio.
                              >> Tried installing the HTC TouchFlo 3D. That was such a cool panel, especially liked the Weather and Stocks tabs. But too bad that it made my phone very unstable. It would hang often, and when that happened, I couldn't switch off using the power button on the top, always had to remove the battery. Within 2 days, I just removed the TouchFlo interface and everything seems to be fine again. (If anyone tries TouchFlo and wants to remove it - just bear in mind that it takes a hell lot of a time to do the full uninstall - over half hour. Just let ActiveSync do it's work).
                              >> Installed Microsoft Voice Command. It's a very light software (only about 4mb) and is really cool. Search "xperia voice command" on youtube for a demo. Handango is a nice site to purchase softwares for this phone (and many other mobile devices).
I also liked the threaded SMS feature - nice to see all msgs exchanged with someone on one page.
Configuring googlemail was a breeze - I didn’t even have to specify the IMAP/SMTP server names it just picked it up automatically. And it works great.
                              >> Have not used Opera Mobile all that much, but I did notice the difference in the speed (compared to my P1i). Thanks to HSDPA. Also tried watching Top Gear on BBC iPlayer (this needs wifi), which works full screen on the X1. Cool stuff, though I don’t see myself watching TV episodes on a 3" screen.
                              >> Camera is alright, the touch-to-focus is cool (but not all that useful or fast to use I think). This phone would have been even better if it had a xenon flash. But never mind. As I say to anyone who asks me "What's the best camera?"… The best camera is the one you have with you when u need it. You cant take good pictures if you cant take pictures at all.
                              >> My main home computer is a Macbook running Leopard. Sony Ericsson's website had a plug-in for my P1i that I could install on my Mac, and the iSync software could easily keep my contacts and calendar items sync'd over a bluetooth connection. But that plug-in did not support sync'ing of the X1. And there isn't any other supplied by SE. So found a 3rd party software called SyncMate to do the same thing for the X1. It's free with certain important features, but one needs to pay to get more features. Would have been nice if SE supplied an iSync plugin though.

All in all, I'm quite happy with my new gadget. 3.5mm audio jack, builtin GPS, HSDPA, crisp and responsive touchscreen and a decent full-qwerty keyboard - and not to mention the cool compact looks.

I have a few questions for some experienced X1 users. Would really appreciate if someone would answer.
                              >> Is there a way to backup the complete phone including all applications - like it is possible to do for the P1i using the Sony Ericsson Phone Suite? I remember I could do that for my old HP iPaq running Windows PocketPC using ActiveSync. The "backup/restore" feature seems to have been removed in the recent version of ActiveSync (i.e v4.5).
                              >> Can someone tell me what happens if the battery on the Xperia dies completely? On my iPaq, if that happened, and if the internal backup battery is also dead, the PDA would loose all data and get reset to factory default. (That's why I needed to run backups regularly for that).
                              >> Can we show the date/time for RSS feeds? And identify if an article has been read or still unread? My P1i had these features for the builtin RSS reader. Didn't find these on the X1.

                              Cheers guys!

yeah you want an black X1 phone... well I can sell you mine.

When I got mine I was all pumped. Yeah it looks nice and weighs quite a bit. The screen is cool and so are the panels.

                                  Then the nightmares begin

For one thing, I expect that for €500 I would get a finished product not a beta version. The pull down menus are so small as to make them unusable without the stylus.

The user interface is terrible and the phone does all sorts of weird things off the box.

To fix all these headaches, you have to download a buch of SW hacks to make the handset usable, and spend several hours monkeying around with it.

In the meantime, pray you don't make a mistake and kill your phone.

When you are finally finished, the SW is noticeably slower and then the phone starts the random freezes.

Sorry folks, but when I spend money on high end product I expect it to work well right out of the box.

On top of that the battery life is horrendous.

So if you think I am making this up, I have a phone to sell you. As an added bonus I will throw in all the tweaks and bs that people have suggested.

So the X1 rocks right ? Yeah it sure does, it weighs just as much as is probably just as useful

No need to work :) it is offered FREE!
Anyway, the I got one when it was over 1000 USD.
                                    Now it is 0 USD.

I did already sent to S E on their general email box of contact us few times ago, it is a very poor thing if they will present such a beautiful and glorious phone like that with all of these lovely features and great functions while seeing a great part of you guys are still complaining about its battery which means that it s not a reliable tool for businessmen to put in their pocket. We are accustomed from S E that they do present smart phones and camera phones reliable in their timing for stand by so we can take them with us wherever we do wihout any fear that we will be out of coverage for the battery running low and being in need to be charged each sometimes. S E has to think it over when presenting a high end phone like the X1 that its battery has to be reliable enough., eight guys ??????? Non forgetting to mention that it is a great looking phone, very practical with all of these features and an important business tool for prominent business men.
