brynn, 04 Dec 2008I have dowloaoded all the free panels,,ie facebook,,spb,,wi... moreThanks for your response... @All, please stop your nonsense conversation.. You know, if you hav'nt use any WinMo over the past few year.. The Xperia is 1 of among the best WinMo ever made, featurin a 3inch(WVGA) touchdisplay, innovative Xpanels, slide_up curve QWERTY keyboard, first ever WinMo that can shoot video VGA 30@fps, Triband UMTS/HSDPA & Quadband GSM/EDGE, Massive CPU and a 256MB RAM... If that all is not enough for you and still comparin to N97 j0key 640x360pixel resolution, a copycut formfactor and all.. Kick you *ss!! By the Sony Ericsson Said that the ultimate firmware of Xperia will goin to be Available early nextyear(around February) so all set of features of the Xperia is not that final, maybe as soon as SE release the new firmware will improve same of features like Music/Video Player, Browser, UserInterface, and so on.

Ok, just picked up my X1 yesterday. Impressions:

                Comments:
Screen wasn't as big as I expected, a little wide would be nice. Form-factor of phone is good size though - not too big for my small hands :)

                Positives:
                +QUALITY hardware build
+Panels work great (esp after grabbing the additional free ones from the SE website)
+Keyboard keys nicely spaced out, less chance of mistype
+X1 Media Player looks and feels great

                Negatives:
-Windows Mobile. Mobile usability sucks, even when compared to something like UIQ3 on SE Symbian phones. UI perf. not super-fast even with such high specs. Can't theme it as easily as "normal" phones.
-Keyboard keys don't have much travel
-No accelerometer. Auto-screen rotate would have to been soooo nice!

I'm sure with some customising and fiddling this phone will be a pleasure to use!

Joseph, 04 Dec 2008Having the X1 for 1 week now and coming from the Nokia E71 ... moreI found that out that you have to manually close the data connection..If your connection was active all this time and you are using gprs/3g/hsdpa you should not incur any charges if you have downloaded nothing,,its only the old csd that charged 10pence a miute to use whatever you did..You can leave your data on all the time with a bit of a hit on battery but if your not uploading emails or using any data you will not be charged.. I am sure i am correct as gprs is called "always on "in the beggining were it just sat their in the background allowing you to immedeatly be back on the web without having to keep re-connecting..

Why are ppl wanting symbian??!As Symbian is a closed platform users(geeks) cannot fix the numerous failings, now nobody is denying WinMo has it's faults but because it's a far more open platform users can fix the faults.Visit xda-developers.com and see what ppl can do with winmo..then surf some symbian websites and you'll see users do nothing at all with the core OS...they just talk about applications!

Sincerely, I don't understand the people that are buying the phones and then say "I am not pleased with this phone". What is GSM Arena for ? What are the operators for ? You just go to them and stay there for hours and try it. It's your money, so go for it...

dave, 04 Dec 2008thats like saying the sony ericsson t303 is made by sony ye... moreThere are so many cooperation forms between those guys and there are many good phones out there and that's not all, they keep improving their work every day. The most important thing, from my point of view is that we are the real winners of this battle / cooperation. HTC Touch HD is a very good looking phone with a lot of specs, Nokia N97 is truly nice from what I saw, Samsung T-Omnia is also good, Sony Ericsson X1 looks good too, but there are so many good phones out there and they are rolling allmost every day new wonderful phones. We will have to thank them and to respect them, because that's what they are doing every day. Anyway, what I want to say is that we have to be smart and choose what's the best for us not depending on the mark of the phone (Nokia, Samsung, Motorola or LG or some other existing phones). Everyone has his target. You can not compare an accountant to a teenager that wants a phone. Maybe the accountant will choose a WM phone and the teenager a Symbian one or... who knows ? That's what GSM Arena is here for, to help us choosing the right stuff for the right guy or girl. I didn't want to upset you or nobody on this forum, because everyone is free to choose. So, take care and good choosing everyone !

Having the X1 for 1 week now and coming from the Nokia E71 and N90, I’ve to admit that the X1 is not exactly what I was expecting. I was looking for a phone that fits in between the E71 and the N90. Therefore I thought this is the phone. Now I can’t say that this phone is a disappointment but it doesn’t suit my requirements. WM is still not very user friendly. It has all the features a business phone should have nowadays but the performance is bit wishy-washy. Nice looking but a kind of user-unfriendly. And there are also some bugs. The worst one is the Data Connection. Once I started the Opera browser for the first time the Data Connection came into action. However after closing Opera the Data Connection didn’t close automatically. I did realize it around 24 hours later and now I’m preparing myself for a huge connection charge by my operator. Every time I connect to internet I’ve to shut down the Data Connection manually. Such things shouldn’t happen at all. Nevertheless it’s a good looking phone for people who like to play with. Good looking device but the rest is 08.15

Also my ringtone problem is over,,i put it in ringtones folder as someone said and they showed up in sounds and notifications settings but would not work?? WHats happened is that the ringtone is part of my tracks i play but one song was in wma format the other mp3 but the xperia willNOT play wma ringtones its just that i thought it was mp3 format..This may help other people to use mp3 and polyphonic as ringtones if they are having any problems,,Have had a wild time with the xperia but working thru the might of winmo and all the technicalitys is throwing at me but not given up..I would go to say this is one complex unit and lack of knowledge and where to get free apps and the little tricks that come with smartfones made it a big challenge but everyday it gets more intriging and is a very special device..I think it superb and with a lot of perseverance have got the xperia near how i want it,,then i can enjoy whilst improving it even further with tweaks and software just like i did with symbian..Battery is really improving and things are settling down now and do not think i could hadle a 32gb card cause at 16gb its tricky getting music/vids/photos on card and updating it and keeping control of all that data is hard with huge scroll lists etc..Any new user keep at it its brilliant when all comes together but to me it was a big learning curve..

If you are really into computers then WM is best for you, for noobs, symbian is good.
