Anonymous, 24 Nov 2008May be ti is a hard concept to understand - but some of us ... moreLousy signal goes hand in hand with lousy battery..I getting full strength no problem,,WI-FI does dis-connect when not using it but re-connects as you select a new command BUT thats happens with my n82..My router is not that good cause sometimes my laptop disconnects,,i do hate wi-fi and on my mobiles never use it just use gprs or for big loads 3g/hsdpa where their is signal..I mainly use gprs with images off and thats fine for most searches or wiki search answers..
The gadget show just tested this plus other fones and first test was to dial 999 in emergency,,,,ITS dead easy,,press green button dial999 press green button,,tut t

May be ti is a hard concept to understand - but some of us who are disappointed with the phone:
unlike it was said we do not just play music, make pictures, etc.
But we would like to make calls with a phone, with the X1.
Bad reception and lousy battery performance just prevented us to do so.
And all the features etc. we supposedly unable to appreciate, well lets start with the WIFI drops, weak flash, poor speaker .....

about the camera:
The hardware platform used in the XPERIA X1 is dependent on the region. The European / world variant - X1i - makes use of the Qualcomm MSM7200A chipset (made in 2007), while the American variant - X1a - will make use of the Qualcomm MSM7201A chipset (made in 2008). The MSM7201A chipset is theoretically speaking the successor of the MSM7200A chipset, although the differences are almost non-existent.
The reason for the different chipsets is said to be a Broadcom patent infringement by Qualcomm back in June 2007. The suit is said to have something to do with video compression in the MSM7200A chipsets. Because the lawsuit is about an American patent, the MSM7200A chipset is used in all non-American variants, and the newer MSM7201A chipset is only used in the American variants.
As you can probably imagine, the real difference in the chipsets is about video compression. The MSM7201A chipset limits video recordings to QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels) and up to 24 frames per second video, whereas the MSM7200A chipset supports VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels) video recording at up to 30 frames per second.

Anyway my first battery indications could be an underestimate because altho i dis-abled hsdpa/hsupa it also has a gsm/3g bands setting automatic or gsm only so i have been on 3g since day one..I dont get 3g at my house its 100 yards up the road but when using 3g on my n82 it did affect battery a lot..Also have switched from three quarters backlight just down from full blast back light to auto sensor so battery life will be even better,,plus on third charge now..
PEOPle who dont like the fone probably just play some music,,take a few fotos do a bit of video,,send some txts get bored and send it back..This fone is stuffed with features,,custmisation,entertainment the lot..I have now dowloaded battery indicater,,tcpmp player,,ibe player,,pocket player trial and kimono player,,thruout week going to see which player is best..Kimono looks best but is not yet tested on xperia but downloaded it anyway..Got you tube app,,stopwatch currency converter from free sites..Some will not go onto xperia via windows manager(vista) so i copied the directly onto memory card and executed the cab file that way..Tonight gadget show but most get pics and videos ive taken today onto laptop and test.Brilliant device so far and that screen oh its gorgeous..bye

I have seen ´In stock´ several website - now!
I was able to ADD TO CART without any problem (shipped less than 24H) for 849 USD!
I guess SonyStyle just does not want to deal with the returns - and the complaints.
Again, try the unit and if you like it - buy it!
enjoy it if you can.
Initial price only a couple of weeks ago was 1200 USD.
Seeing the quality and reliability I expected that the price will drop but even I am supriced to see 850 USD today.
I guess HTC HD, and Pro ,and Omnia really compete with the X1.
X1ś reliability is another factor - unfortunately.

˝- as far as the video recording capabilities are concerned, the video size (resolution) and frame rate are VGA and 30 fps, respectively for the non-US model; for the US model, this is QVGA and 24 fps only. Frankly, I just don’t get the point in so severely a dumbed down US model... Did the Sony people go crazy?! Not that I would except Nokia quality shots from the camera (no lens protector and the lens itself seems to be pretty weak), but 30 fps VGA is, today, a MUST in any decent smartphone; therefore, I just don’t understand why they plan to release a device for the US market with such specs.˝

Second: i didn't see anything wrong with reception,no differences between X1 and my previous phone...
Third: volume can be low if you cover it with your finger,but leave the phone on,go to sleep,and if they call u in the morning,it's gonna wake u up just like alarm clock...
So yeah every phone has some cons,but think about style,quality,features,and battery that lasts more then I phone's,Omnia's,HTC..etc..
The only problem i see here is unit price,so people complain,if it was around 500 or 600 $$ nobody would say a thing...

Why not people research a little bit on their own?Google xperia and you will find tons of reviews about how good it is. Just ignore all those losers who are either nokia fanboys or some thickheads who can't understand the basic concepts of a WM device, Xperia is the greatest set right now and thats what is killing all those fanboys of other brands that there is NO set with such style and functionality. Get Xperia, its the best right now.

X1 battery life much better than HTC touch HD and Iphone 3g I will tell you why my We ran the test X1 HTC Iphone . X1 was the winner with 30% remain of battery both HTC and Iphone dead . It's took us about 3hrs and 10min of used on youtube,GPS,play some movies,internet
overall X1 was the best phone ever . I'm very happy with this phone . what I like about this phone build with the fast internet loading so fast . I'm used T-mobile internet plan EDGE speed with slower than 3G but I'm ok with that you save battery life
thing that I don't like about this Phone not come with alot free OS and free game like Iphone

People do not return the X1 without any reasons:
- it is SLOW
- buggy
- poor reception
- low volume (speaker)
If you like it, that is fine with me.
But, many of us just very disappointed with the X1>>>>>
And who are these many??Pal I can bet that you have never even touched Xperia, I know your kind of people, those low end sets buyers who when can't get anything good in their life, start criticizing it..its called "Grapes are Sour"
So you better stick with your nokia 3310 and leave Xperia to those who can buy it.

Some people just unable to ´notice´ the slowness, what ever reason. But, please understand some of us just different and the phone is just too slow for us! :)))

To people who're practically brainless this phone may seem bs, but for those who can understand their cellphones this phone excels extraordinary, seriously people who're still complaining about lag and slowness probably saw one review that used the phone with pre-release FW, because i am sitting with it in my hand and i can tell you the lag is minimal to nothing much better than most WM phones, please don't give negative feedback if you are still using a 3310 and can't afford anything revolutionary like this. thank you

I have hard time to believe this story about the battery span :)))
I had experienced it totally differently. And especially, since so many users complained about it.
BTW,
Nokia 5800 available in the US.
The market is getting crowded:
X1
Iphone
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch HD
Samsung Omnia
Nokia 5800
(soon: BlackBerry Storm)
They do not have the same features but generally target the same buyers.
All have large screen. They are kind of smart ones (phones).
