O4{I, tell us more about this optical joystick navigation. Sounds interesting.
Mmm...SE are attempting to create an allrounder with a QWERTY. Yet they have failed to implement a triad of important features:
1)No TV out or UPnP; important for simple presentations.
2)No Xenon flash; quintessential for dim light photography.
3)No Stereo speakers; for that crystal clear "feel good factor." Afterall mp3s are recorded in stereo so why give a mono output?
It took time for Nokia with its superb N82 to define the term allrounder, but they finally reached the promised land. SE still have yet to arrive although it is pleasing to see they have begun the journey. On this trip they have suddenly acquired two new friends: HTC and WM. I now look at them as a team. Three muskateers swashbuckling through the mobile arena. Yet SE should beware for these friends are controversial. So many hate the WM OS. The three muskateers will have to try and win over the detractors with this new device. Hopefully it will be the first of many and not the first of only one. We all eagerly await this device. Best wishes to the three valiant muskateers!!

This smartphone will include a 3-inch WVGA (800 by 480 pixel) touchscreen that can slide aside to reveal a QWERTY keyboard. Other navigation options will be a four-way key and an optical joystick. The X1 will be a quad-band GSM phone with support for the 3G frequencies used around the world. It will also have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This Windows Mobile Professional device will include up to 400 MB of internal storage, and a Memory Stick Micro card slot for additional storage. It will be 4.3 inches wide, 2.1 inches tall, and 0.66 inches thick (110 mm x 53 mm x 16.7 mm). It will weigh 5.1 oz. (145 g).Sony Ericsson says the XPERIA X1 will debut in the U.S. in the second half of 2008.

Brick, heavy 145g, only 65K colors, very slow Windows Mobile 6.1, no TV out, no xenon flash and a high price of $899USD...SE do you really think to beat any competitor with those specs and expensive price??? I don't think so! Big deception, i was waiting for a REAL ALL-IN-ONE from SE!
I will keep my very good K800 for the moment!

Sony-Ericsson opened the Mobile World Congress today by unveiling the XPERIA X1, its first true touchscreen-focused cellphone. Following a deal with Microsoft, the handset is Sony-Ericsson's first device to use Windows Mobile for its OS but also uses a custom interface of "XPERIA panels" rather than the default Microsoft front-end: users simply tap panels with their fingers to access calling, media, and other functions, according to the phone designer. Though dominated by its 3-inch, 800x480 touchscreen, the device also includes both optical and physical navigation pads at the bottom as well as a unique arc-slider QWERTY keyboard that tilts outward for more comfortable typing.
The X1 is also the most Internet-connected Sony-Ericsson device in history, the company boasts: unlike even most advanced 3G phones, it offers HSUPA (High Speed Upload Packet Access) that sends video and other media almost as quickly as it comes downstream. Wi-Fi is onboard for short-range networking and is backed by assisted GPS for route finding. A 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and a microSD slot (versus Sony-Ericsson's favorite Memory Stick Micro format) round out its key features. The first XPERIA phone is expected sometime in the second half of 2008; with quad-band GSM and an unprecedented five-band HSPA/UMTS connection, the device should be available both in North America as well as Europe and includes the key 1,700MHz band needed for T-Mobile USA's upcoming 3G service.
