The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is one of the most exciting Windows Mobile phones since the Blackjack 2 and the (phantom) i-mate 9502. With a 800x480 pixel display, it is probably going to be the new reference in terms of productivity and entertainment. Users can control it the way they want: Touch screen, joystick or via the elegant Arc slider QWERTY keyboard. Finally, it has WiFi, 3.5G and assisted-GPS – features that will make a big difference, given that web browsing and location based are popular apps these days.

It's here, the XPERIA X1 QWERTY from Sony Ericsson. Yes, full QWERTY to make the most of that Windows Mobile 6 operating system. SE's new XPERIA brand will focus on multimedia and mobile web communication. The X1 then, brings a 3-inch wide VGA (800 x 480) touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel camera (with photo light), A2DP Bluetooth, aGPS, WiFi, and microSD -- just 400MB on board. On the phone side you've got quad-band GSM/EDGE, and 900/1700/1900/2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (or 850/1700/1900/2100MHz in what must be a US-bound model). Navigation is accomplished via touch, arc-sliding QWERTY, 4-way key and optical joystick. Now just replace that Internet Explorer Mobile browser with Opera Mobile 9.5 or Skyfire and the 110 x 53 x 16.7-mm X1 is ready to live up to its potential. You know, when it ships in "select markets" in the second half of 2008. Full specs posted after the break.

Update: We've got the first in the wild picture and video preview of that new panel interface.Sony Ericsson XPERIATM X1 – At a Glance

The X1 is a horizontal slider phone based on the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.1 Operating System. It is Sony Ericcson's first mobile phone to feature Windows Mobile.[4]

The phone features a three-inch touchscreen overlaying a QWERTY keypad which emerges when the user slides the touchscreen face upward, much as in the HTC TyTN II, although the X1's touchscreen slides out at an arc. Its touchscreen is a 65,536-color TFT WVGA display. It has a 3.2 megapixel digital camera which records video at thirty frames per second. It features a variety of connectivity options: mini-USB; wireless LAN 802.11b/g; Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, FTP, and HID; EDGE; and quad-band GSM, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, and HSCSD. The X1 has 400 megabytes of internal memory, which is expandable to 32 gigabytes using High Capacity microSD cards, although currently only cards up to 8 gigabytes have been released by SanDisk.[5]

Due to the restricitons of Windows mobile, the phone will be the first business phone by Sonyericsson which is not capable to utilize the PCS network feature Alternate line service, which was once introduced by a collaboration of Orange(UK) and Ericsson.

Several software features will come standard on the X1, such as handwriting recognition software similar to Palm OS's Grafitti software (handwriting may be by an included stylus), an integrated aggregator for viewing RSS feeds, and push email.

The device is powered by Qualcomm's ARM 11 MSM7200A CPU, which runs at 528Mhz. It has 128MB of RAM.

guys I do hope you all know that no phone can have it all. There are the positive attributes and also the negatives. I believe this is a good move from Sony Ericsson and we should believe that there are better stuff to come in future especially with increasing technology and innovations. It's rather too early to start speaking down/bad on this new device

Brick, heavy 145g, only 65K colors, very slow Windows Mobile 6.1, no TV out, no xenon flash and a high price of $899USD...SE do you really think to beat any competitor with those specs and expensive price??? I don't think so! Big deception, i was waiting for a REAL ALL-IN-ONE from SE!

GSM Arena of late have stopped gazetting my posts but anyway let me keep trying!
It is clear that SE in a desperate bid to maintain market share have borrowed many Nokia concepts in this device eg 3.5mm output for headphones; green and red call and end keys; microSD card slot; VGA 30fps camcording etc. So those castigating Nokia should desist from that because it is evident that phone companies borrow from each other.
The Qualcomm processor which this device houses has not been pushed to great extremes. Its former dwelling the HTC TyTN II did not have a WVGA screen and the video drivers were not enabled. SE X1 on paper will test the Qualcomm MSM7200 processor. I hope it delivers because the contemporary PPC user craves for fast response times and smooth reliable operation. To pull it off, SE will need their best technicians working on this phone. Toshiba produced a similar phone: the G900 but had many problems with it.
I must say it is courageous of SE to pack WVGA res into a 3 inch screen! Yet it is a thin line between courage and folly. They better make certain that this SE X1 functions well otherwise HTC, SE and WM will have egg on their faces because thousands of irate businessmen will be pelting them with raw eggs!!

yeah but this is from N82's list.
                                      - T9
                                      - Push to talk
                                      - Voice dial/memo
                                      - Built-in handsfree

^^why write them down? all phones have those things..there not written down on other phone specifications.

why Handsfree written there? its pointless everyphone has it ! same with Voice dial/memo ..

and look at the X1's Specs list.
X1 has more features then that. and GSMarena hasnt written them down.....!

                                      think about it
