furthermore ronald do you think your iphone would run smoothly with a little 200mhz cpu?of course it wouldn't that's why apple used a cpu that clocks over 600mhz and pass the cost plus a liitle extra on to you the iphone isn't in the same class as Xperia

Ronald no wonder you didn't like the htc dash It was a wm5 device with a 200mhz CPU and only 20MB user RAM Everybody knows WM needs a hell of alot more than that to operate problem free I blame HTC for cutting costs on hardware with little consideration to the end user Xperia has WM6.1 256 ROM 128MB RAM 528mhz CPU BIG DIFFERENCE

I hope that this device can live up to all the hype its generating. Lots of devices look great on paper but eventually never translate well, and this is especially true for Windows Mobile devices. I'm not too excited for this phone, since WM phones tend to freeze and are pretty clunky. I went from the HTC Dash to the Apple iPhone and the iPhone is by far better. I just hope that this X1 can match the browsing and multimedia features offered on the iPhone, because thats all that matters to me. I'm not a buisnessman so I dont need a bunch of productivity applications. Its also nice that HTC is building this guy, its just that they seem to be very affectionate for Windows, which I'm kind of worried about. But like I said if the Browsing and multimedia capabilities are strong, I will likely consider giving this a test run, oh and can't forget battery life.

SE and WM is a win win situation.Sony Ericsson had to go beyond the 'limited' Symbian UIQ ,WM needed a big brand to reach users who wouldn't buy devices made by lesser known manufacturers.SE move to WinMo,Nokia aquire Trolltech(linux in a phone)Both manufacturers have looked beyond the horizon and realise Symbian is a horrible, small and ridiculously complex operating system which sooner or later won't be suitable for advanced smartphones.

I will buy this phone. High resolution, great camera, 3.5 mm head phone jack and WM. It also has a huge battery (1500 mAh). Thanks SE.

I have both Nokia N95 and HTC P3600 (WM)

I use P3500 all the time because it has everything and battery (1500 mAh) takes 3 or 4 days even with a large screen. I have installed 20+ favourite programs and still running cool. But HTC camera and head phone jack is crappy though.

N95 battery doesn't take more than a day. I have tried to install a few programs and had to reset it all the time and people can not call me or can not send any sms.

I have seen my friends LG Viewty and Parada. They are a piece of crap. Can't install anything and but good for girls though.

A sizeable proportion of N95 owners wouldn't even know that Symbian is an Operating System,an even larger proportion wouldn't have a clue on how to pronounce Symbian. The Xperia X1 is aimed at a different type of person.

great phone... i love sony ericsson ever since,
from z600 to t630 to k500i to w800i then p990i i think this is the next...it is not easy to infect with a virus even their symbian base smartphone
to tell you all the nokia fanatics, look at thier latest phone the N96...it a matter of optimizing and upgrading their product...

you know it sucks me everytime they have a new release. how can you love your phone when after you bought it a few months theres a new release them same price with a higher specs? You know the term "OBSOLETE"?

For Christ sake! NOKIA your playing with your customer who is blinded with your "BEST ADVERTISING" be fair to your customer...

Every man and their dog has a N-series Nokia, that's because the majority of ppl like to listen to musoc, take photo's and do a little extra that symbian os provides.WM6 professional is a step up where the emphasis is on robust applications, email, web browsing etc.

If your looking for a device that works straight out of the box then a WM PPC is not for you, however should you be willing to spend a few hours tweaking the registry you can customize your device to any degree you wish.I've owned many WM PPC's and can safely say WM6 is uber stable and reasonably fast on devices with 256MB ROM,128MB RAM and a decent CPU.

@nick That's because Nokia's marketing machine is like no other.Lets consider some FACTS.1 How many colours can the human eye distinguise on a QVGA screen?2 WiFi 'g' on a N95 is futile..I urge you to test your max. speed.3-5mp camera that has so much reduction that the image cannot be properly managed with pc software(how many n95 owners actually print the photo's!!)4 What exactly is the point of having chips that are capable of VGA video recording or playback when the N95's screen can only show a quarter of the detail in the afore mentioned. The list goes on and on.Nokia=GIMMICK'S & HYPE

Xperia X1 is only a MARKETING move (smart IMO)... please get that.

It is like the adopted brother in the SE family (not saying there is anything wrong with being adopted) :
                                - No Sony M2 support
                                - No Cybershot camera
                                - No Walkman music player
                                - No Bravia screen
                                - No Fastport connector
                                - No shake me or sense me or accelerometer, etc..

The only thing that makes me recongnize it is a SE phone is the fact that 8 months will have to go by between announcement and release, and ok, maybe the arc sliding design as well, coz i usually like SE's designs (but i think there was already a slider in an arc shape, right? the banana phone from moto remember?)

I'm pretty worried that this phone is an OEM made by HTC which SE has slapped their logo and software theme on.

I am the owner of an ex-htc p4350 which the store luckily accepted to take back because it had a million flaws. It was slow as HELL, wifi would always disconnect after 10 minutes no matter what network. Apps would crash several times a day.. much like an early p990, and min you that was not their first phone and it had been around for a while once i got it..

Now what makes me think that its an OEM HTC device? Well HTC are very big when it comes to Windows Mobile devices, and the X1 seems to have the proprietary HTC mini-usb port. And ive also heard rumors last year that SE will buy OEM devices from HTC. Can someone please confirm this?

The X1 looks nice on the paper but lets wait for the first review...

                                    nokia are quality mate.

why is it they can produce a piece of excellence in early 2006 in the form of the n95 and it is still competing with all the new releases by sony erricson and LG today?

This phone looks good. Looks better than my N95 actually. I'm considering this one to be my next phone, but I am having 2nd thoughts with its 65k colors compared to my N95 that has way more than that. This also does not have 8gb internal mem. And it only has 3.15MP compared to my 5MP N95. It's kinda hard to let go of those cool features, but we'll see.

One of the best features on this
is phone must be the WVGA screen. The clarity will be awesome, think about viewing web pages, video's photo's etc with a resolution that is FIVE times that of a N95 or a N96.How can Nokia call the n-series multimedia computers with such low quality displays??Funny thing is the majority of Nokia owners don't even realise!LOL
