Tann Hauser, 29 Mar 2019You and DXO again. Did you know Dxo never tests quality ... moreDxo is unfair for vendor who get low ranking. Now you want everything to be shot in hdr, people need to be a photographer and direct a movie because this phone has capability. No no way. Its about what people need, not what sony ask. But yes i agree dxo should review hdr, but i think it only help a little for xperia phone. It doesnt necessarily make it compete with mi9.

People mostly use phone camera to take photo of theirself, rarely take photo or video of nature. So bokeh is important here, portrait mode is what people use the most. And daylight is not a problem for phone camera, as long as it has portrait mode, even a midrange phone is enough. Night photo n video and zoom is the real problem. And xperia is bad in all of that thing. No its not dxo fault, its siny fault.

Chap1, 29 Mar 2019Lol,how can u mention Sony and Samsung in same sentence- u ... moreBecause sony cheat benchmarks like huawei. Sony phones get maximum performance for only a short time and then thermal throttling sets in and lag like hell and becoming completely inresponsive because sony don't have a proper heat dissipation solution. This heating issue plagued all the recent sony flagships.

Nikjosh, 29 Mar 2019Oh ok. You rarely make a prediction, once you did, you wron... moreYou and DXO again.

Did you know Dxo never tests quality of video, except in native app on 1080p.
Did you know DxO tests quality of photo only by auto default?
Did you know all other OEMs have HDR on auto by default, Sony doesnt?

They never tested quality of Xperias 10bit HDR video, or even HDR photo, daylight or night.
And if you watched the link I gave, you d know for certain the capabilities and qualities of low light video with 10bit HDR setting... which DxO never tested.
        Same goes for photo.

Did you know DxO tests cameras only by that default?

So results are seriously flawed, and unrepresentative of real capabilities, just because of camera app design?
That said, DxO is setup for higher scores of OEMs that use a certain specific app design, and not for actual photo and video capability or quality testing.

You rarely make a prediction, once you did, you wron... moreLol,how can u mention Sony and Samsung in same sentence- u csn not fool Sony users, this is not Sammy page-awful,laggy,slowing down Samsung performance vs ultra smooth and fast Sony.By the way, this model score 395.000 on benchmark, beating all others including latest Iphones(first called xz4-search it),while s10 totaly disapointed in benchark,as always, not even close to Sony, well not even close to Xiaomi mi9 that scores 372.000,also higher than latest Iphones.

Tann Hauser, 27 Mar 2019Oh, on the contrary, I am so rarely wrong, it has become a ... moreOh ok. You rarely make a prediction, once you did, you wrong. You expected too much and lost your logic. This phone only has a safe set up, a high end modern day proven set up like on s10. There is no way this phone can do that zoom.

We can expect a great daylight photos and video, and improvement for bokeh and lo light, maybe a neat trick in videos. Don't expect a great night photo and video. I predict it will make a jump in DXO. It will score 98.

And yes huawei mainly focus is photos, and there is something important beside quality. Xperia maybe have slighly better quality in good daylight situation, but theres other scene, andd... What it capable of. And huawei superzoom video is something xperia will never can acheive. And its something absolut, not only slightly better or worse you can debate all day long..

Johny, 27 Mar 2019My previous post didn't pass, or I did something wrong, so ... moreJohny,

Yeah sometimes that crap happens on this site. SO annoying, right? Cuz then you gotta retype everything. I always copy what I typed out before hitting "Submit" so IF it happens I can just paste & re-post.

I beg to differ man. I'll admit that my current OnePlus 6T's screen is lower resolution than my former LG V30's yet STILL looks better............but that's more because LG doesn't make good screens on their phones plus OP does better color (etc.) rendering. But you DEFINITELY can notice a difference when going to 4K and watching 4K content. Even my friend who was with me was like "Wow!!". So I think you'd lose that bet my friend. lol

Well that's the other thing........OLED is considered an upgrade over LCD, so that will make the Xperia 1's screen look even MORE amazing than the XZ Premium's LCD one. Plus the 1 benefits from the Mobile and Imaging team coming together as one unit b/c its display also has DCI-P3 100% & BT.2020 (REC.2020) ratings, which both have to do with color reproduction, & no previous Sony Xperia had either of them.

At least one person or reviewer had mentioned shoving the Xperia 10 Plus (which is 99% the same size as the 1) into their pocket with NO problem! So I'm really not worried about that actually.

Well you could ALSO buy one of these upcoming folding phones too, but that would cost a lot more than the average phone. lol

[deleted post]Ahah, I might ve been wrong on this one, cause it was typical Sony type of marketing.
But dont hold much hopes on Huawei, you must wait some more until Huawei gets to this level of quality:

Is it really the rezolution, that makes your jaw drop or the color depth? I bet you wouldn't see the difference between a 4K display and FHD if they would have the same color depth. I don't see the display raster on my phone and I have good eyes. My XZ2c has FHD, but is not OLED.

I don't judge anybody that wants a big phone, but it's not possible to keep it in my pocket and who says, that if you want a big screen, you can not buy a thablet with even bigger screen and have a small phone in your pocket? I'm curious to see what will be next.

Would you be able to tell me the difference between XZ2compact display (1080 x 2160) and 4K if they would be both oled with identical color depth? I bet not. I don't see the raster in my XZ2c and I have good eyes.

But I'm happy for you. I know what it is to wait on something and you can not buy now. Have a nice day.

Am I too old?, 26 Mar 2019Well I thought 34 years old means still young, but I don't ... moreI'm 41 so I'm older than you, but to me it's not JUST about age, but about preference.

I too hated big phones like 2 years ago, but then something happened with smartphones..............everyone started changing the body/screen ratio from 16:9 to 18:9. WHY does that matter you say? Because it made the screens look bigger but the body size smaller, so you get MORE screen with less body. All of a sudden, the bigger phones that once felt too big in my hand (i.e., 16:9 LG V20) in 16:9 were now even bigger but somehow felt NICER and smaller in my hand b/c they were 18:9 (i.e., LG V30).

Why 4K? Ever since I watched a 4K HDR video of wild animals on the XZ Premium 2 years ago, I was FLOORED by how everything looked! It was JAW dropping!! So if Sony wants to continue offering this, and now that they'd FINALLY gone 18:9 AND are offering T-Mobile VoLTE on these phones (I confirmed BOTH on the XZ3 last year), on top of ALL camera improvements the upcoming Xperia 1 will have (OIS ((FINALLY!!!)) which will improve low-light/nighttime shots, updated software, TRIPLE lens setup for the first time, AutoFocus, AutoEyeFocus, AutoExposure, etc.)............. I no longer see a reason NOT to buy it! I only returned the XZ3 last year b/c it was like 2 steps back from the XZ2 Premium's superior camera. But the XZ2 Premium was 16:9 and no T-Mo VoLTE. So I bought the OnePlus 6T instead. Great phone, but I miss Sony. lol

Why 21:9? I got to play around with the Xperia 10 Plus at Best Buy last week and watching just a regular 1080p LCD but 21:9 trailer for Avengers: Infinity Wars on it was incredible. Since 21:9 IS the ratio used natively for movies, it really felt like a cinema experience........fullscreen, NO NOTCH OR CUTOUT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HAS, and NO BLACK BARS on the side! But THAT in 4K HDR OLED would be EPIC! And it doesn't stop there..............Sony has and is partnering with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube to create and offer even more content in 21:9 as well as in 4K HDR!

I am REALLY excited about the Xperia 1. I just REALLY HATE that we have to wait until late May for it. Sony needs to keep it to the 2 mos or under. 3 mos is just too damn long! lol

Well I thought 34 years old means still young, but I don't get why everybody want's bigger and bigger phones. It has gone some way I don't like and also don't get. Why 4K? Why so big? I currently use XZ2 compact and it's already a little bigger that I wanted. Maybe I'm old, only thinking I'm still young. Before everybody wanted smaller and smaller phones. I didn't. Now the opposit. I like the right size as Z1c was 12.9 x 65 x something. XZ2c is also ok. 1280x720 rez. was ok. I'm out. I won't buy this ... and any other big phone. Hardware is impressive. The only thing I would still improve are the cameras. Maybe I'm old and I'm missing the train. bye
