jeonbeom, 16 Sep 2022i'm considering to buy this phone..i just want to know... moreVideo recording on the phone is not great unfortunately (using latest software). That statement goes on top of the fact that only 1080p is available. Focus hunting is a thing, and there's a noticable lag when changing between cameras during recording. Especially going from the main lens to either the ultrawide or the telephoto, and switching between the ultrawide and telephoto. Going back to the main lens from the other two is a bit more responsive.

Tried this handset out over the past two weeks (in US). Nice size in the hand, but unfortunately it does not support Band 12 (which I missed) and that is required for Ting MVNO (T-Mobile) to work correctly.

i'm considering to buy this phone..i just want to know your experiances while recording videos on it..does it stutter too much or is it normal? and has it improved over the updates? does installing a separate app for video resolve the issue..? i'm not hooked on recording 4k as 1080p is more than enough for me.. i just wanna know about the lag while switching lenses

Ki-8, 15 Sep 2022Just got this phone... Mixed bag of feelings. it ain't... moreThen you shouldve opted for the 10 III instead! It mostly has what you explained & should be cheaper now. 10 III can also play & record videos upto 4k compared to this that is totally locked down to only 1080p which is big deal breaker for me.
They are pretty much identical besides 10 IV having bigger battery & the newer gimped SD695 soc.
But IMO, 10 III is overall much better & it comes with charger & cable inbox.

Just got this phone... Mixed bag of feelings. it ain't cheap for what it is.
In 2020 got deal for Honor View 20 for 180 euros for ex exposition unit.... still kickin, just rear glass is broken, and front is scratched, Never used case or screen stickers, but no lags, good battery, cameras are booth decent.
This one i got for 360 euros including bundled WH-XB910N headphones.... i think this not bad deal also... But phone is still downgrade comparing with Honor device from early 2019/ late 2018.... Honor flagship never was expensive one.
Positives:
*size
*plastic casing (ex Lumia fan here)
*5G
*battery
Negatives compared to old one:
*performance....... this might be an issue, even after 1 years, and after 2 it could be unusable as dayly phone. as work phone it could last long time. if noone brokes
*slow charging speed and no bundled charger or cable....
*fingerprint reader is downgrade
*no IR blaster ( but its optimistic to find phone with this lately)
*camera might be better
* No usb 3.1
the bigest +, is size even if i have big hands, and biggest -, is performance and charging speed. everything else is compromises i could live with.
Big battery is cool but last phone already had decent one, with fast charging, which is superior, when you can top up buttery in hour and not to try save power.
So Honor View 20 was the best Phone I ever had, and I doubt this one could be better after 1.5 years. also i doubt about Sony smartphone quality as i had isues before.

Gustav, 13 Sep 2022Thanks for answering, PeterM. I was mostly worried about da... moreAny charger supporting Power Delivery standard should do it.
Read on reddit yesterday the charging power is dependent on battery temperature, just Sony used a too agressive setting, and it cuts back from full power once the temp goes over 30°C.

Thanks for answering, PeterM. I was mostly worried about damaging the battery or something like that. But now I feel I probably shouldn't worry about that.

Gustav, 13 Sep 2022Can I use Samsung 25W charger to charge this phone? Model n... moreYou can, for sure, but don't expect it to work full power during charge. I have a 30W Baseus GaN charger, but the phone seems to be charging in the 20W range in the very beginning of the cycle, then it seems to reduce in the 10W range after that. I'm pretty sure it's limitation of the phone, I doubt it would charge with 20W all the time with sony's own (overpriced) charger.
If you can get a lower spec charger for cheaper, you might save the money, the phone won't benefit from a better charger.

Then the advantage of long-lasting battery makes it the logical choice for my lifestyle. Also it has dual-SIM support compared to the 5a with eSIM. If this Xperia would get more OS updates, then I'll be happy to prefer it over the Pixel.

Bionic Chip, 07 Sep 2022That's disappointing. I'm almost 100% buying this... moreFunny thing, I bought the Pixel 5a and I wish I bought the Xperia 10 IV instead!!
In a sentence, they're very different phone in a vital area: while the Pixel 5a is average size, the Xperia 10 IV is *small*. And by small, I mean ridiculously narrow and lightweight. To the point where typing with both thumbs feels kinda weird. But in the end I think I prefer having a ridiculously narrow phone that works, rather than a average-sized brick that constantly slip off my hand, even with a super grippy case, just because of its weight distribution and width.
My point is, your choice depends on what you want in terms of size. The rest will follow. They're inherently the same stuff. You'll use the same apps. The size and weight is the ultimate difference in this decision.

Bionic Chip, 07 Sep 2022That's disappointing. I'm almost 100% buying this... moreDon't expect Google-level support in terms of updates. Especially for the 10 series, I feel like it gets a lot less love from Sony, than the more expensive 5, 1 and Pro models.
That being sad, I'm 100% sure they will release Android 13 on it, and also good chance that 14 will come some time as well, but probably can't expect much after that.
