After all, Sony phones have always been known to be notoriously durable in long-term use. A friend of mine still keeps his still-functioning Z2 and 10 Plus as backup phones despite already moving to first-gen 1.

      finally sony has put stereo speakers here! they havent even had that in their previous phones. wait- oh, they are using that same chipset.

        based on photo samples already posted on the comparison tool, it seems the new sensor is terrible on low light, maybe even worst than the IV one.

          I can't wait to see what the battery life is like on the Xperia 5 V. I hope they release this in the States.

            I see that people are comparing this to a52s. I do not have 10 V but I do have a52s. The camera app on the a52s is worse than the camera app of a sony xperia z3 compact from 9 years ago. I have also started noticing problems with getting from the lock screen to the home screen: sometimes I get into my phone for half a second and then it sends me back to the lock screen. The fingerprint sensor is absoloutely terrible by the way, works 1 out of 3 times. The final problem I have is that the top menu, where you can select bluetooth, torch, wifi, etc... , often overlays with the home screen in a weird way, even if you dont pull it down. If these problems dont concern you, then I can recommend a52s, but I experience all these problems multiple times a day.

                    Looks very promising on paper. I like minimalistic design, IP rating, screen, battery and 3.5mm (the most!). But what will be charging speed? Will it be normal in todays standarts? Because pixel 7a messed everything up with theyr stone age charging speeds 😥

                    Looking to replace my old trusty oneplus 6, but can't find decent one. Seems i will stick with it until death (my or phone)

                      Even 3800 x 1600 is considered 4K already.
                      There is no 4K 21:9 without crop.

                          I have been thinking why Sony released a smartphone in 2023 that is actually worse in many aspects than the Mark III model from two years.

                          Now the only feasible explanation I can come with is that Sony has tailored the Xperia 10 V for those corporate device fleets rather than us individual consumers.

                          Both Xperia 10 and Xperia Ace lines are usually Android Enterprise Recommended devices, and I think that Mark V here will be no exception.

                          With that GODLIKE 175h battery endurance rating plus reduced weight, it kind of makes sense to me now.
                          Xperia 10 V looks like a great company phone — no more, no less. Any ordinary field worker will be happy to get a phone that weighs less, lasts more, has a 3.5" jack for professional grade wired headsets, and does not look like a brick.

                          I mean, it might just be that the 10 IV had been so successful as a corporate device and Sony had got so many preorders that they decided to stick to the successful 10 IV formula for this year's model.
                          And I can't blame them for that.
                          I want Sony to make as much money as they can so that they would continue making phones with:
                          - screens that have no notches, waterdrops, holes etc.
                          - SD card support
                          - 3.5" wired headphone support
                          - side fingerprint scanners
                          These are the features I enjoy everyday when using Xperia 5 II that many other manufacturers dropped because they are blindly mimicking Apple.

                          Thank you so much Sony for having the balls to stick to your own design language!

                          Now Xperia 10 V is a bit less than I expected and Xperia 1 V is too long for my liking, so I guess that Xperia V Mark V will be a perfect fit for my needs.

When Samsung introduced A52 line of phones in March 2021. there were 2 versions of it. 4G version and 5G version. 4G version had 90Hz screen and Snapdragon 720G chipset, while 5G version had 120Hz screen and Snapdragon 750G which was a brand new chipset back then, but with plagued with chip shortage. In the same time Snapdragon 778G was introduced and Samsung use that chipset to put it to already existing phone, an A52 as much more affordable 750G was out of reach and that was a time when brands started to have 5G as a standard in mid-range category. So, only the thing they could do is to put that much more potent 778G. From A52 5G introduced in March to A52s introduced 5 months later in August the only different thing is the chipset. Everything else is exactly the same. In 5 months that same A52 5G has lost good portion of its starting price and the thing they didn't have to do any new designs, they just use the existing phone. All that combined gave Samsung an unique position for its A52s model and that's why it gains so much popularity among people. That thing will not happening any time soon. Of course people are not happy with A54 when A52s had the same if not better performance, but most of people don't understand how A52s become so affordable in the first place. Expecting from a brand like Sony which has 3 new models per year to be in line with Samsung or any other company which makes 50 phones per year is really not a fair comparation.

                                Anonymous, 12 May 2023I'm really surprised that sony mobile isn't out o... moreIn 2020. rumors for Sony exiting mobile phone business was high, so Sony said them self why are they still in mobile business even their sales are weak compared to other players and why will they still be on the market even they don't sale as much devices as others do. They said they are waiting for next thing to come so they can be there in the right moment. And to give demos for their stuff to other brands. In other words, they exist to show what they can achieve with other brands and their custom solutions. So far, their camera sensors custom made solutions are pretty huge success in flagship category, but sometimes they do them even for mid-range category, for example Honor 70's main 50MP 1/1.49" custom made camera sensor.
                                Who knows, maybe we'll see S24 Ultra with continuous optical zoom which only Xperia has, which is in fact the only real optical zoom as optical means it can literally move lenses inside. I don't know why companies call those others with fixed lenses an "optical". Oh well..

                                LG and Sony, they both have their main business elsewhere, not in mobile division. They both had success in phones but only for a short period of time. LG with its G2 and G3 devices but they were plagued with motherboard issues often going in endless boot loop. And Sony had a short time success with their Z series, from Z1 to Z5 and their particularly famous Compact line.
                                LG has their main business with producing displays, semiconductors, electronic parts.. And Sony?.. Well, they got everything what LG does with a "few" bonuses.. they are Godzilla of a company. A mega-giga company compared to LG which is not a slouch either. Have you ever heard for Sony production in movies, or in music, or making DSLR/mirrorless premium camera solutions, or Playstation and their whole eco-system with it, or making displays for TV's? In all those categories, Sony is on top. So, naturally Sony don't have a problem with bleeding money on mobile division as LG did. Which by the way they don't do anymore and they're making profit for 3rd year in a row. Sure, the profit margin is still poor but at least it's not in negative like it used to be for a loooong time.

                                  Anonymous, 12 May 2023Really wish Sony tried to compete with Poco F5.That's not possible even for Samsung who are the only western brand to put effort in all phone categories, from low budget ones to premium flagships and everything in between. If you as a brand have high volume sales then you can buy new parts for cheaper. Samsung is making a lot of phones per year, just as much as all Chinese brands such as Motorola, Realme, Oppo, Xiaomi and their sub-brands (Redmi and Poco) do, but there's one catch with all Chinese brands and the reason why are they more affordable then any of their western counterparts. They do everything in one country, everything! All human resources, all logistics, everything is in one country - China. Do you even know how much that has a impact on final price? That's not the case for Samsung or any other western brand. I would want the same as you, but that's simply not possible to expect from a non-Chinese brand. Xperia can't fight in mid-range category. Hell, even Samsung have difficulties to fight against aggressive pricing of Chinese brands. I'm not defending Sony or Samsung at all, I'm just telling the difference and what can you expect from each brand price wise. For me personally price is not Sony's main issue, but that's the subject for another time.

                                    Why is it that the 10 series not getting enough radio bands? Does Sony have data showing people who buy 10 series phones don't go oversea to work or oversea holidays?

                                    The 695 chip is getting EOL soon, no more software support in terms of driver and security features. Sony should start to look at 7 Gen2 chip in their 10 series.

It's not really a 4k, but it's close. Real 4k and pushing all those megapix's would be a pain for any phone battery and it would make it even hotter device to use then it is right now, which wasn't great so far with Xperia phones. I hope with mark V they will do some better cooling solutions.
