If you're generally speaking about durability, then I can verify that cheap phones can last well over few years (except have to change battery every few years regardless of price of the phone).
If you are referring to manufacturing location, then you should be noted that Sony "does" also have factory in China (not limited to Thailand and Japan); therefore, you will still have to look into its factory to verify that their manufacturing process is better than other companies.
Speaking of quality control, Sony did have defective display with green / pink line issues in past; therefore, it's hard to say that that their quality control is better than others.
The only thing that stands out is that they use their own camera (other than 3.5 mm headphone jack and SD card support); therefore, there's some potential for their phone to take better shots (however, do they have good image processing?).

This phone does more then enough to make up for it's price tag, Sony uses only quality parts. If you want a cheaper phone, made with lower quality parts, just go for something else instead of making unessesary comments how Sony should improve this and that. Now I really appreciate what Sony is doing here, and do not mind there price tag.

RingDing, 01 Dec 2024You dont need any Updates. True as long as the apps continue to work.
Many people buy hype about "Security updates" but in fact, 99% of people won't have security breach unless they click scam link or install some of these so called cracked apps or something like that, but often being mistaken as being hacked.
The reality is you won't get hacked unless you are high profiled such as being a politician, celeb or President of the country.

Otherwise in general, it's good to reset the phone once in a while, because the storage gets fragmented as time goes by.

So, long updates are just a marketing ploy to entice you with buying their phones. For the uninitiated they won't know that. But for us who are familiar we won't get tempted by it.

That is a fact. You kill your smartphone by yourself. Regardless of whether you do updates or not, in three to four years you can no longer use your smartphone. This is so wanted by the manufacturers and you can't do anything about it...

RingDing, 01 Dec 2024You dont need any Updates. I think I do. That is very stupid to say.
You see in my opinion these updates by companies are a double-edged sword. And poses many questions. How fast will the updates be? Like for example Xiaomi and OnePlus have started pushing Android 15 on their devices whereas Samsung still be "early next year".
Also, Realistically will you be using a phone for more than five years? And if so, i do not think future updates will run smoothly on a 5-7 year old device. And there will be update fragmentation i.e. some features may not be available on much older devices. It's good to have updates. But for me 3 years of OS and 4 years of security is the very basic I would be expecting.
