Latest August 2024 update solved the very video bad stabilization problem by 70%. I agree that it is nice to be so narrow but I could take at least half to 1cm of being shorter. Performance is ok, as for camera install a gcam to get better than stock camera photos

Bravosixgoingdark, 27 Aug 2024It's $280 lol In my country its price is equivalent to $480, which is insane when i can get china domestic phones for way way less.

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2024Compact-ish.It's pretty light and narrow than most phones, but stupidly tall and thick. 21:9 aspect is simply not great for daily use unless you're watching movies or something.
Strange how Sony didn't change it to the more mainstream 19.5:9 like the Xperia 1 VI, as if there are still people out there who are convinced by the whole 'cinematic display' niche.
The Galaxy S24 is a great example of how to make a nicely-sized compact phone.

Sony doesn't make worthwhile budget phones anymore that can compete against Chinese companies like Xiaomi and Infinix. Even Samsung makes better budget phones.

- 60Hz display
- Thick bezels
- Plastic frame
- CPU equivalent to $200 phones
- Only 128GB of storage
- Camera has poor dynamic range
- No 4K selfie videos
- Still on Wi-Fi 5
- No charger in the box, not even a charging cable
- Limited availability
Come on, who would seriously buy this for $530 over the OnePlus 12R, Pixel 8a, Galaxy S23 FE, and Xiaomi 13T. I feel like the compact size, headphone jack, card slot, and front facing speakers are seriously not worth considering for an otherwise overpriced lower-midrange phone.

atichko, 23 Aug 2024While I don't dislike this phone when it comes to the ... moreThe narrowness of the phone is very nice and I find that I drop it much less easily than my old 5.5" phone with an 16:9 ratio, though ofc they could have made it shorter and it wouldn't have mattered much to actual usage. Either way, in use I think the ratio is fine depending on what you're used to and what kind of media you consume.

While I don't dislike this phone when it comes to the width of it I'm not fond at all about the height of it. I just don't like this bullshit cinematic format which limits the potential customers to the ones who actually do. When you look at the latest Xperia 1 edition it's clear that Sony realised that this form factor is a limitation on potential sales. The majority prefers either the 20:9 (not me) or the 19.5:9 (me) ratios. This 21:9 (or even higher as I saw a foolish 21.5:9 ratio used by another brand) is a bit too niche. Nothing against niche or those who do like this ratio as there must be goods for every likes but not for me and thus I would not buy it. Maybe if it would come with a large discount then I might go for it. I used to be very fond of the brand in the old days having owned several Xperia devices.

With the oddly tall display aspect ratio, similar 155mm height and 68mm width, this phone is basically a Galaxy Z Fold 6 sliced in half and without the foldable inner display, if that makes any sense 😁

Anonymous, 01 Aug 2024Extremely expensive phone ~ 380 Euros. I can get the Galaxy... moreWhat I like about the Xperia is that it still has a headphone jack, a SIM tray you can easily open by using your fingernails, and front-facing stereo speakers. Other than that, yeah, the A55 is superior in most other aspects.
I wouldn't necessarily call the Xperia a compact phone though - the narrowness makes it fit in your palms, but it's still absurdly tall with an unusual aspect ratio and is 8.3mm thick. Not exactly pocketable, nor that usable with one hand.

Good battery, average camera for photos, very bad stabilization for videos (you get ghosting in videos even for a sony midranger, I had to disable stabilization in video settings and now its a bit shaky but better than being on).Install a gcam and you will be much better for camera but no solution for videos
