Vineet Reddy, 25 Apr 2020They are dedicated chips as SONY did officially announce an... moreEven if BionzX / X1 is a software algorithm, Its still a very good thing.
Here's some examples of high and low end algorithms. (its for high quality video playback)
Example of a low end algorithm
https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/cmsdata/downloads/33653/img3File_thumb800.png?version=0%2E92%2E12
Here is a high end algorithm (I personally use NGU standard)
https://sakaki.anime.my/tutorial/madVRv11/scaling-algorithms_image-upscaling.png
Both of these algorithms are used to upscale videos.
The low end produces good upscaling without using so much processing power
High end produces amazing sharp quality but it requires much more processing power
So just having Sony exclusive algorithms is a very good thing. (as long as the hardware can handle it)

OEMs choose to buy nothing extra, or extra for ex the qualcomms own audio or ISP software for them, or they code their own software into them... so price range for the SoC itself varies depending on that.
I believe that is the case.
On general, I believe it is cheaper for OEMs to buy the SoC with qualcomms own software code preinstalled, than to RnD and install it by themselves.

https://www.sony.co.th/en/electronics/support/articles/SX909901
This probably means that there is an algorithm built into a chip in the system.
This isn't a bad thing tho. Its still Sony's proprietary tech.
Snapdragon 865 already has Spectra 480 ISP built into the chip.
https://techbeginer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/33025816sst1576555386.jpg
But I don't know if its possible to deactivate the integrated ISP and add a dedicated ISP
Maybe a dedicated ISP for the IMX557?
I know a phone with dual ISP
https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/exynos/technology/advanced-isp/
Samsung claimed to have multiple ISP (exynos processor?)

Not chips like insid... moreThey are dedicated chips as SONY did officially announce and advertise the first time when they were implemented in XZ Premium. Even today their site clearly states them as chipset and not some software implementation. You can visit SONY official site and check for your self. It is obvious that SONY is not gonna throw in full blown X1 chip-set made for TV but a shrink-ed version made for mobiles yes it did.

Are you going to go live in a cave? If you are in a city with 5g, it's all around you, nothing much you can do to protect yourself or stop others from using it.
And believe me, most of these ppl don't give a flying f*ck about health issues, they'll continue to use it like slaves.

Only delusional Sony f*ns think that. No wonder sony is alienating other people who consider buying flagship phones. No wonder Sony is losing marketshare and doing terrible in sales. Stuck up users can't help a company get back to their best days.

That is Only true for Samsung s20 with Exynos.
Rest only decrease by 10-15%. Even less if used in dynamic mode where AI handles the refresh rate.
Stop generalizing results from S20 for all other 120hz refresh rate phones.

Most used app on Earth is Chrome.
If I can browse for 11h for example, why would I accept to be allowed to browse just 7h ?
Easy to find on internet S20 users that battery is s*** on 120 compared to 60.
Same will happen to OnePlus 8 Pro.

Its a sma... moreYeah I know you are discussing about the best smartphone display, but most of the reviews are a bit biased and a bit inaccurate. In statistics, a larger sample size is necessary for better accuracy. The reviews shouldn't be based on data from a single unit. (Not all phones are created equal)
I never really liked OLED anyways. The pentile pixel arrangement makes the display quality appear less sharp than LCD. So higher pixel density, like Xperia 1 and 1II is needed to increase sharpness.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2020yea exactly, it's kinda useless on smartphone. running full... moreAndroid 10 has a built in experimental docking mode that you can enable in developer's options. I enabled "Force Desktop Mode" and "Enable Freeform Windows"
The adapter I use
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FF63XZ9/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_aL0OEbEDDX3WC
Displayport alt mode with charging (battery drains quickly without charging) Type c cable is not reversible (logo facing up)
Note: Xperia 1 and Xperia 1II both support DP Alt mode, using this adapter on phones that don't support it (like XZP) will not work. you will also need a keyboard, mouse, (Bluetooth recommended) and a display
The desktop mode is more like a tablet with windows than actual desktop. But you can open up a bunch of apps and use them simultaneously. I can have youtube playing while researching on chrome browser and have messaging app in the corner. Its kinda like a Chromebook, just more like a tablet.
I like way Samsung designed their desktop mode on the Samsung Dex.
