iOS is handicapped. Lol. Why do your so cherished Chinese brands copy it's UI- Huawei.

Of course they have been selling very less number of mobiles for past 3 years compared to previous generation. This year is a different story, Xperia 1 II has nothing to complain for the price. Though absolute price did look like high. But when Samsung is able to sell crap mobiles at 1500 Euros in eruope with exynos processors. Xperia 1 II with SD 1200 euros is justified. Though the target features are different. Xperia 1 II is more practical and pretty sure is better in almost all segments of overall performance.

My point is, yes, past few years sony could not bring perfect mobile (though they have unique features but still came with some baggage). If people still complain like they do for past few yea mobiles. No, I just call these people sony haters because, there is nothing to hate this mobiles for 1200 euros (though it is unofficial price, I just assume it to be no surprise)

IOS is a handicapped ecosystem. Much inferior with a functionally challenged OS.

Don't worry you'll be getting widgets and app drawer with iOS 14 in 2020, something that existed on Android phones a decade back.
I'd take Chinese flagships over IPhone running handicapped OS.

It's only recently from the Xperia 1 series, that image quality and processing has been on par with other flagships. Took them a while to get their algorithms right.

Vineet Reddy, 12 Apr 2020Lets say you produce a product which is great and is better... moreLet me take you to a trip down the memory lane.
Back in 2013-2014, there was no OnePlus, Xiaomi was not well known,Huawei was not that recognized either, Realme didn't exist and other Chinese manufacturers were less known.

Flagship segments were dominated by LG, HTC, Sony, Samsung and Apple.
This is where Chinese manufacturers started launching great devices at affordable prices in the budget and mid-range segment which were offering exceptional value for money compared to their Sony, LG, Samsung, HTC counterparts.

Over the years, their marketshare improved as they got word of the mouth publicity since devices were so good - Exceptional build quality, performance and specs for the price.
Sony, HTC, LG, Samsung continued to provide phones with similar specs at almost twice the price and all of them consequently kept losing marketshare.

These companies had zero marketing and were launched (online buy only) to save costs. Yet they managed to Trump all the premier brands in terms of sales and now today, the mid range and budget segment is dominated by Chinese companies. Samsung had to launch a reasonable M series to prevent losses in that price segment.

My point is that If these Chinese companies can get ppl to buy phones without marketing and end up dominating those segments then Why can't Sony do it?
Huawei surely Did it in premium segment uptil the US ban.
Samsung had delivered in the premium segment over a decade now, so fans know they won't be disappointed with a Galaxy flagship. While LG and HTC were a hit or a miss depending on the year.

This is why, even with marketing, Sony wouldn't be able to do jack sh*t unless they lower prices.
Sony, HTC and LG are in the same boat. What they need is not better marketing but bang for buck products that will force users to switch to Sony from brands like Samsung and Apple.

Anonymous, 12 Apr 2020Ferrari and Lamborghini though they sell less, they still a... moreOk time to teach one more hater how a product is considered premium or flagship.
Ferrari or Lambo are companies and not products. Just like Sony is a company and not a product. Either of them are failure. While a product in particular year can be a failure (here anyone with sane mind will never see the number of sales per year), that doesn't mean that company is a failure.

Xperia does have some unique features which even the so called other flagships doesn't even offer. Anyone who thinks about Premium, first thing one gets into mind is DESIGN. Sony Xperia has won IF design and Red dot design awards. That alone shows whose design is the best in the market. Sony doesn't follow other brands, especially Apple/Samsung like shieps. Sony coping up with trend (Xpria 1 II is the best example), bring unique features like 20 AE/AF, 4K HDR with 10 bit colour depth and the only mobile that can cover the most of BT.2020.

OP, I don't even consider this mobile a flagship. They don't offer basic features like IP65/68. That reason alone (though there are many light slim and light weight, camera, display colours etc) strikes it off from flagship segments. Only broke people buy mediocre mobiles and call it a flagship. S20 Ultra or Iphone 11 Pro on the other hand, yes they are flagships. But nope, I don't consider any of chinese mobiles a flagship. Their build quality and material itself displays they r not flagship. Unless you have used any of true flagship mobiles, just try buy one and use it. You will never call OP a flagship again. :)

Finally the ads and bloatware are big reasons

Anonymous, 12 Apr 2020Ferrari and Lamborghini though they sell less, they still a... moreYour comment shows you don't know nothing about premium phone.
                  2. Sales is not a parameter to determine quality of products, as many people buy products because of many reasons. It'll be very difficult for someone who's used to iOS ecosystem to switch to android no matter what they offer. Myself for example, can't ditch my iPhone because of software compactibility with my MacBook.
                  This is what premium means.
Great screen accuracy, fast firmware updates, uninterrupted viewing experience, great audio experience, great battery(the Xperia 1 isn't that great tho) and great techies that ensure product longevity.
Now see if your Chinese brands score at least 7 in all.
PS: didn't talk about camera as I'm not into smartphone photography.

Anonymous, 12 Apr 2020Every company engages in marketing but saying that OnePlus,... moreYou live in India then you should know how well the Z and Z1 models sold in 2012-2015. Z1 specially in year 2014-15 sold way above its MSRP and still was highly demanded and got sold like hot cakes. At that time there were newer offerings from SONY as well as other brands and which were selling for same price or even less and yet people purchased way over priced Z1 over newer gen smart phones. All online stores Amazon.in, Flipkart, Snapdeal and other online stores like Croma, Reliance Digital etc. were all overcharging like between 30-35K the cheapest was around 27K and yet people purchased it over other newer flagships which were priced around same price or even lower or bit higher depending on brand. Z1 was sold to the extend that all the online stores even sold imported version with wait time and it still sold like hot cakes. That my friend is what I call trust in product. Even International version was sold out at that crazy high prices. There is a reason people din't purchase the later iterations of XPERIA as majority din't even know they exist. XZ Premium was as good as Z1 for its time then why dint it sell.

When Sony had 20 and 23, people complianed.
Not they put 12 MP to increase speed and allow 20fps with AF (no other brand does burst with AF), people complain again.

Sony Semicon will sell what they want. If one brands orders a 1" sensor, they will sell.
                      They want money.

Nobody complain when Samsung display sells to Sony, OnePlus and Oppo better screens than they sell to Samsung Mobile.

But you decided not to advertise it at all. The others even with their not so good product decided to advertise. Now you tell me will people even consider a product which they have not heard of or know how good it is or purchase the product which they have already heard of and know what to expect. That is simple logic and that is how it works. Let me tell you we are arguing here that one is better over other, but only 20-25% or even less really care and do proper research before purchasing goods. 75-80% consumers depend on what they in general media then check online what is being offered and purchase it blindly without considering different options. Over that you expect them to research of a product of which they have no idea of its existence. Think practically. People mostly blindly rely on brand name. I have many in family and friends who used to purchase SAMSUNG blindly because of its brand name, once I introduced them to SONY or even OnePlus they questioned themselves for purchasing SAMSUNG again and again when the device failed in short period of time.

I don't know if this is relevant enough to you guys. But there's a topic that I'm interested in learning more about. It may help clear up questions regarding current phone prices in the competitive phone market.

So FOXCONN is a well known (I hope you know) company that provides electronics manufacturing services for big companies around the world. They manufacture PlayStation 3 4, APPLE iPhones, eyePads, and Xbox.
I've read in the past (6yrs ago) that Foxconn also manufactured XPERIA phones for Sony. And I'm wondering if they are manufacturing the recent Sony X1 and X1 II.
I'm also curious to know who manufactures the cheaper flagships.

Does it matter who manufactures your phone? (the company that executes, not the company that designs)

Gganso, 12 Apr 2020"Sony is not everyone"; maybe this fact is too hard for tro... moreYeah. Probably SONY realized that with their crap marketing they cannot sell or push out huge number of units and decided to make it more unique and exclusive by pricing it that high. But back when SONY did know how to advertise their products it outsold SAMSUNG and HTC in flagship category 2013-2014 in India.

Anonymous, 12 Apr 2020Correction The OLED doesn't use Quantum dot technology. ... moreThat is the sad part. Even-though TRILUMINOS was enabled by Quantum-dot implementation, the term TRILUMINOS was never coined in reference to Quantum-dot tech it was coined in reference to superior color coverage and that is how it was advertised. Because of that majority of people don't know that SONY implemented Quantum-dot technology. It being unrelated to Quantum-dot tech the way SONY advertises it, it can be used for OLED as well and has been used in advertising of all OLED TVs launched by SONY till date.
