if 90 hz soap opera effect is PR trash talk,
then deductively, 120 hz super soap opera effect must unavoidably be super duper PR trash talk?
Well, I must say, I absolutely agree with your observations.

Better no 90Hz interpolation than this, we all know how this thing looks in reality, soap opera effects, artefacts, inputlag, etc.
But it's Sony, nobody is expecting they wont mess something up, right?

Fearghast, 08 Mar 2020That does not even makes sense. There is a reason that even in TVs or PC Monitors were not pushing 120/144Hz until recent times whereas there are many 1440p and 1080p monitors going 120/144Hz since almost a decade.

I seriously don't get why people are so upset about it being 90Hz enabled through software processing instead of 120Hz. That is a 4K 21:9 display. Implementing 120Hz or even 90Hz on that high resolution is extremely taxing on hardware and also effects greatly on battery drain. 4K@90Hz through software processing as is is taxing but through balanced distribution of processing between CPU and GPU it is comparatively less taxing. To be honest getting any kind of 90Hz implementation at that high resolution should be extremely satisfactory. To make it clear, this phone is not catered towards competitive gamers. If you really care for competitive gaming I highly recommend waiting for ROG Phone 3. Xiaomi is going to launch Black Shark 3 but I recommend waiting for ROG Phone 3 as previous model from that series was exceptional package.

It's just not that wide as others. So it's easier to hold in one hand

Yall just ignorant. Quit complaining about display resolution. 1080p, 2160p, 4k, 10k resolution looks almost the same with naked eyes on a small display. Unless u put 2 phones side by side. So annoying.

Great phone but too long! If the length if under 155mm, i would buy. So sad. Been waiting for sony to come out with an ideal phone for my needs for the last 8 years. Nothing!

Sony does make 10 bit wider color gamut screen as it uses 8bit+2bit.
Therefore Sonys screen is certainly better in color reproduction and gamut space regard.

Anonymous, 07 Mar 2020Coz the native refresh rate is 60hz.
90hz is gimmicky soft... moreYou do realise that hardware enabling 120 hz on a 120 hz screen requires mere 2 lines if coding.
Its just that easy, and has a serious hit on battery consumption.
On the other hand frame interpolating software for 90 hz equivalent motion blur reduction on a 120 hz screen requires an entire new driver coding (hundreds of lines of coding), and seriously reduces battery consumption for same visual effect.
Im quite sure 4k res with 90 hz software based interpolation is more energy efficient than fHD res at hardware based 120 hz. And requires a lot more RnD invested in it.
