You are answering yourself. He never said anything about it being wider did he. What he said is that XPERIA 1 II is larger than XPERIA 5. What you are saying is that it is not wider but it is taller. Being taller than XPERIA 5 makes it larger as the overall size increases let it be length or width, not compulsory to increase both ways to be qualified to be called larger.

Since smartphones have already grown up hugely and they are coming with even 5 cameras, 3 of them are just numbers and gimmick, why not we demand a classic format rather than 4:3 boxy sensors? there are already 1/1.3" sensors and they are aiming at 1" sensors, we can't resist them. but we can go for a better format.

It has grown up vertically, not horizontally or proportionately at all. The 4K screen consumes most of the power here. keep in mind

I have already mentioned here about 1/1.5" (still not the largest one) but in a different format, 3:2 6000X4000 24MP, Pixel pitch will be around 1.3micron - 1.4micron. Current camera's software should include 3:2 mode also. hope you understand.

I can afford it without any stress for my budget.
Plan to buy an Alpha camera later. Will be tinkering with manual controls all day long. Plus I want a bigger phone.

If that was the case why would SONY still be spending that much into R&D for XPERIA devices. If that was the case SONY would have completely abandoned the XPERIA lineup and stop selling them and end the production.

You make no sense. Truth is that we so called "SONY Fans" are right in this matter. As SONY not only stopped making ads for XPERIA but it stopped making ads for even TVs and everything. Only for a last a year or two we are seeing the ads for TVs after a good 5-6yrs break. And the jump in SONY TV sales can tell you that ads and marketing does matter.

There is a reason why Sony has been selling fewer and fewer phones since 2014. And it's not due to a 'lack of marketing' as Xperia fans claim.

The fact is that Sony doesn't care. It makes plenty of money from selling games, movies and professional cameras. Xperia phones are just a side hobby for Sony.

We will have the same old conversation again, when Sony financial reports come out next year and the Xperia fans wonder why sales numbers are unimpressive, how dare the Apple/Samsung fans not recognize how wonderful Xperia phones are, Sony should do more marketing etc.

By the way, Sony should consider further reducing costs by installing stock Android, forget about putting on a Sony Android skin. I understand that Google Photos is now the default preinstalled photo album app on the Xperia 1ii. Might as well replace the preinstalled Swiftkey (owned by Microsoft) with GBoard too.

Siang, 20 Jul 2020would love to know if xperia now having overheating issue &... moreI've been using it since over 3 weeks now. I can confidently tell you that this is the fastest smartphone I have ever used myself or seen in my friends circle. Fastest like not in animations (HRR), Fastest like while opening apps, playing games...No lags noticed so far. 8GB RAM is really beast on this smartphone, better than 12GB on other smartphones. There are plenty of speed tests on you tube as well. In all tests Xperia stood fastest.

Haven't noticed any excessive heat even after playing light games for hours (I usually play MCOC). With HS power control, even that small heat is also gone. Device does heat up a bit during fast charging and while using camera apps but nothing serious (I live in Europe). This is my experience. But I do have a reddit friend who said his device heats up more often than mine. I guess it all depends on your tasks. There also YT videos on Xperia 1 II battery tests and temperatures. It is fairly decent compared to other chinese brands like Oppo and Xiaomi. Even OP 8 Pro heats up more than X1 II in certain cases. I guess Samsung is the coolest in those tests if I'm not wrong.

However there are couple of bugs like, for me is the picture-preview in camera apps is bad sometimes (especially in low lighting, guess preview lacks focus). And I'm not sure whether it is same for most of the other smartphones. Hopefully this will be addressed in coming update.

Fearghast, 20 Jul 20202) Larger 4000mAh battery lasting longer. It does not last... moreisn't xperia 5 too big for you? and you also don't like 21:9 aspect ratio. what's the point buying xperia 1II then? to just complain that xperia 1II way too big for you?

the most pitiful thing is when you shoot in 48MP mode, images will be less than average grade and when you shoot in 12MP and 16:9 mode, you will get only a 8/9MP image. I don't understand why people shoot in 4:3 when 4:3 screens are only found in museum and there are 4:3 camera sensors. DLSRs use classic 3:2 format, so why not in Phones??? or even why not 16:9 sensors as it was found in some Galaxys back in 2015 and Lumia 950/XL (advertised as true 16:9 camera sensor following Samsung)? It's time for 6000X4000 24MP 1/1.5" sensors without any fugking binning.

BliTTzZ, 20 Jul 2020I know it's quite an improvement overall, but I need t... moreIt is a decent improvement. But seriously why would you buy new phone when you purchased one less than a year ago. Makes no sense. I recommend sticking to XPERIA 5 and upgrading when next time SONY puts out any thing as decent as XPERIA 1 II which is most probably a good 2-3Yrs wait. Use XPERIA 5 till then. The important point here is that you will be loosing money selling the XPERIA 5 in second hand market and spending lot more to get XPERIA 1 II. If you dint purchase XPERIA 5 then purchasing XPERIA 1 II coming from XPERIA XZ2/3 or even XZ Premium makes more sense.

Fearghast, 20 Jul 20202) Larger 4000mAh battery lasting longer. It does not last... more1) Larger battery I was referring to XPERIA 1 II over XPERIA 1. I clearly mentioned XPERIA 5 where I mentions specs related specifically to it. He asked comparison to XPERIA 1/5.
                                    2) Unless LG V60 is extremely huge improvement over LG V40 I can say XPERIA XZ Premium has superior DAC which brings out perfect detail and accuracy which superior to LG V40 which outputs greater volume level but at loss of that detail and accuracy. When paired with Headphones like MDR-7520 or not so great and highly demanding HD650 LG was only able to output around 20-25% more volume than SONY while at loss of detail which was clearly noticeable. What LG DAC does wrong is that it tries to lay back the harsher notes to give pleasant and forgiving listening experience and by doing that details get lost. While SONY does not do anything and gives the flat output, if a song has harsher notes then the output is harsh as well and does not loose any detail at all. That is what a DAC should be doing. SONY DAC is like O2 Stack but with less power output. LG DAC is like even more Warmer Magni Stack with less power output. Point here is that SONY can be made to sound warmer and laid back with suitable headphone while nothing can make LG sound more detailed and accurate no matter what headphones we use as the info being output is lost. That makes the difference.
                                    3) When I said Hi-Res I meant the highest detail and clarity possible. No phone does that better than XPERIA 1 II in this gen phones. As I said being louder is not equal to clarity and detail.

Yes going for XPERIA 1 II from XPERIA 5 is not extremely worthy as XPERIA 5 is not that bad and being purchased less than a year ago. No I think upgrade is not required unless he needs headphone jack or 5G support or is serious about photography on a go and want all in one package.

It does not last longer ... Xperia 5 last a lot longer compared to Xperia 1 II.
                                        4) 3.5mm Jack and best DAC
Best DAC ... yeah about that ... LG phones, other phones.
                                        5) Dual Front Facing Speakers giving true Hi-Res audio output.
Speakers on a phone can't give you Hires .. that's for headphones only and it's just a label like THX was back in the caveman days.

I, as an Xperia 5, finaly came to conclusion that Xperia 1 II is not worthy of my time and I am waiting for Xperia 5 II to show up.
I guess 2-3 months till they release Xperia 5 II? At least if we take 1. gen release dates and apply it to second gen.
