People in Japan like pocket cameras and music players.
This is why phones with 64GB are so popular.
They do not need 256 or 512.

Tann Hauser, 26 Jun 2020I see a wonder there...
plain 64 gb rom/4 gb ram iphone to... moreJapanese are sick of their own products... It's very common to see sony phones on business men as they can be seen as ''supporting'' their own country's products. But now it's changing.
I love sony though, so don't flame me sony fan bois. I just got the xperia 1 ii BTW. It's cool.

Smithravi, 27 Jun 2020Once again speed test between 8GB Ram Xperia 1 II vs 12GB R... moreOnce again proved Xperia 1 II is built for speed. 8GB Ram is morethan enough if company knows how to do ram management. Sony's R&D always pays off.

Tann Hauser, 25 Jun 2020Yeah, I dont get that either.
For about same price, the w... moreIn Economics terms, the case event of Xperia 1 II in Japanese market version vs International market version known as Dumping Price Policy, where products sold on its domestic products are more expensive than its international relative version or set back one or two features in the domestic market than the international one at the same price. Its purpose is to gain import market share in a competitive market. In this case, Japan got 128 GB, while International received 256 GB instead.
It's also happening not just in their smartphone industry, but also in sectors such as the automotive industry and others respectively. While this policy isn't legal in some countries, that's a normal practice in Japan and WTO declares this is legal to execute unless the imported countries reported an unfair competition led to bankruptcy for domestic products.
The 128/8 only option in the Japanese version of 1 II also possible to do with Japanese people habits and preferences I observed by myself during my trip to Japan last year on smartphones, as I have rarely seen them using their phones as a gaming device, mostly for productivity-related goods that can do them fairly that general people use, and with that, the storage utilized are lesser. This could explain why vanilla iPhone 8 64GB was selling hotcakes instead of the 256 GB version there. And indirect to this explanation also the reason why Xperia mid-rangers mostly utilized a subtle but adequate CPU and Xperia Compact Flagship series isn't selling that well in Japan.
I could be wrong, but hey, I told what I know and I hear.

Once again speed test between 8GB Ram Xperia 1 II vs 12GB Ram S20 Ultra implies, anything over 8GB is waste of money and poor ram management.

Zalias, 27 Jun 2020I would actually be okay with the price if it came with 256... moreIts a japanese only bummer yes, the reasoning of which is uncomprehensable. Id be thinking the same way.
Same goes for color options in europe. We are lucky if we get anything other than black here. And I really want the purple, or blue one, for a change.
Ah well...
I myself am waiting for 5 mk II, it ll be cheaper and the smaller form factor suites me better.

Tann Hauser, 26 Jun 2020Well, people are rightly complaining about mk II price, its... moreI would actually be okay with the price if it came with 256 like the global version. I just can't bring myself to pay the same and get less.
To be clear, I'm no complaining about the price in general. Just the Japanese price.
Also iPhone are way too overpriced.

Anonymous, 26 Jun 2020In what way?In my previous post I mentioned that the Japanese market is getting a 128gb model. 256 is not available as an option and he price is the same as the international 256 model.
That's what I mean.

Smithravi, 26 Jun 2020Because it is not just in japan, even in Europe Apple price... moreWell, people are rightly complaining about mk II price, its just too steep...
But, there is always iphones 11 pro max, or s20Ultras price, as counterpoint argument reference....
People easily forget that the iphone top model 11 pro max price seen mostly, is for base model with only 64 gb ram... and it was indeed 1200, now is 1100...
There is no "overpriced" argument to be made for any other offering out there, even the japanese 128 gb mk II one, if refered to iphones pricing...

Tann Hauser, 26 Jun 2020I see a wonder there... plain 64 gb rom/4 gb ram iphone to... moreBecause it is not just in japan, even in Europe Apple prices are ridiculous. According to Apple, 1$ = 1.2 Euros. Even this date 2019 Apple 11 Pro Max 256GB costs 1352 Euros in Europe, yet people never complain about the price. Same people whine about Sony with 270 Euros worth gift for some reason.

Ali Bashir, 25 Jun 2020No wonder Apple is dominating the market in Japan. I see a wonder there...
plain 64 gb rom/4 gb ram iphone top model flagship was 1200, and still I believe sold as hotcakes.
Xperia 1 mk II, even with 128gb, is a much better phone offer for that same price, yet... sells much less.
