Same goes for 6,5" 4K display that many find useless or do not care. Useless ... it certainly is.

60+Hz will make a much bigger impact than Sony can ever dream of with their 360 or dsee.

You might spam as hard as you can, praise the Sony as some deity, but we will see soon enough, how anything Xperia 1 II introduced and was even usefull (unlike 360 or dsee) will fail to create even the tiniest ripple on the mobile market.

RishiGuru, 10 Jun 2020My four cents: 1) HS power control is a great new idea p... moreYou had me laughing at the 4th point that "audiophile grade audio DACs which Sony Xperia 1 II lacks". See I don't guess XPERIA 1 II will have worse DAC than XPERIA XZ Premium. The DAC on XZ Premium is the only DAC on smartphones which can be called audiophile level. See Audiophile level doesn't mean putting out crazy power what it means is to bring out details in the music keeping it neutral and clear without adding any color through out the frequency range and not miss any detail. XPERIA XZ Premium is the only smartphone which comes close enough to my Mayflower O2 in neutrality and detail, neutrality and clear out-put and also gets out 60% volume with my HD660S which is not bad at all. No smartphone from SAMSUNG, LG, Google or One-Plus can even come close to it in clarity and detail. If XPERIA 1 II is same as XZ Premium or even better then I don't get the point of not calling it Audiophile level DAC.

Smithravi, 10 Jun 2020Mark my words, soon 21:9, 4K, HS power control and 360 Real... moreMy four cents:

        1) HS power control is a great new idea put forth by Sony. I really like this new approach and it for sure will be copied by other manufacturers.

        2) With 21:9 display ratios, well phones are getting taller day by day and yes there will be a day when all phone will reach 21:9. Hopefully this is where the madness ends. Sony this time had the courage to jump straight to 21:9, but there were days in the past when other manufactures jumped to 18:9 and Sony lagged behind with 16:9. So no credit goes here to Sony.

        3) 4K display. Well higher resolution, higher touch sampling rate & higher refresh rate are all welcome for displays. Sony did not make any breakthrough by providing high resolution display. They just wanted to differentiate their product just like some other phones may have audiophile grade audio DACs which Sony Xperia 1 II lacks.

        4) 360 Reality is great for fun listening. More or less all manufactures now-a-days provide some kind of audio effects which tech nerds rave about but doesn't understand a bit. For any kind of critical music listening, this type of digital signal processing always deteriorates audio quality. In other words people who doesn't understand audio quality will like 360 Reality.

All manufacturers big or small innovate and others learn and copy from each other. This is good and benefits the end customer.

Guys, chill, the 4k display on this phone is one of hundred features lol.

Mark my words, soon 21:9, 4K, HS power control and 360 Reality audio gonna be must features in their separate segment from every manufacturer. Just like how 3.5mm, waterproof are made popular by Sony.

DrummerAJL, 09 Jun 2020Actually, I saw someone say that the screen only runs at 10... moreok. Let me explain you. First of all, yes sony doesn't display 4K on home screen.
But it switches to 4K while using Gallery app, music app, while browsing, watching youtube, netflix, amazon etc.,. Where else you want 4K precisely??? Only home screen and probably settings are not shown in 4K to save battery, I'm perfectly fine with that.

Apart from resolution, colours you can display using 4K screen will not match typical FHD or QHD. Also addition to that Sony's own tech to display colours is no match for other companies. Probably LG will come close but still they are not 4K.

PS: Yes I hear the comment to have QHD enabled option but you should remember that Sony's unique thing since 2014 is 4K. And this smartphone is aimed at entertainment people. You need no high refresh rates for watching a 24fps movie. Do you??

DrummerAJL, 09 Jun 2020Actually, I saw someone say that the screen only runs at 10... moreIf you're paying $1200 for this phone, you should be getting that 643 pixels per inch

I'll repost my own comment here again.

A typical 4k TV has full RGB resolution of 2160*3840*3 (each pixel has 3 subpixels, Red, Green and Blue), resulting in total of 24 883 200 color dots.

Smartphone 4k OLED hardly surpasses 2k IPS installed in LG G6.
                  Get your calculator ready.
                  Sony X1/X1m2, 21:9 4k OLED = 12 625 920! It's twice less than in a 4k TV.
3840*1644 green, but red and blue are only 1920*1644, = 3840*1644*2

                  LG G6, 2:1 2k IPS = 12 441 600. Surprised?
                  2880*1440 in all three colors = 2880*1440*3

Samsung S20, 20:9, 2k OLED = 9 216 000 dots, and it's this many only because of stretched display. Be it 18:9 it would be less.
                  3200*1440 green dots, 1600*1440 blue and red = 3200*1440*2

                  Sony 18:9 1080p IPS = 6 998 400, very modest
                  2160*1080 in all three colors = 2160*1080*3

Remember Sony XZ Premium 16:9 4k IPS? It has only 16 588 800 dots in total.
3840*1440 was its real RGB resolution, not 2160. Subpixel cheating again.

So, people who say smartphone OLED 4k doesn't differ from real smartpone IPS 2k, are partially right. Because of the ducking Pentile, the real dot count differs from what they claim to be the real resolution.

So far, Sony's 4k is the first real 2k OLED.

Also mind that human eye has angular vision, which means that if you can discern 1 pixel from 10 inches, it has to be 100 times bigger after you move that pixel 8 feet away.

Another thing is everyone saying that 120hz is NOT a battery hog while 4k is, I'd like to see some proof to that nonsense.

And, has anyone heard of Sharp phone with 240hz screen? It's actually a 120hz screen with black frame insertion technology, which makes 120hz look ALMOST like 240hz.

Same tech is used here, but Sony SINCERELY says it's not real 120hz, it's not even real 90hz, it's just a black frame insertion technology which makes the image more sharp.

DrummerAJL, 09 Jun 2020Actually, I saw someone say that the screen only runs at 10... moreSeriously, I dont know whats worse, tech ignorant or sheep.

Sony doesnt own Netflix nor Prime.
Sony provides a 4K screen device.

But Netflix nor Prime arent offering a 4K streaming mobile app ATM, which is a shame for those two companies.
Googles You Tube should be examplatory to them.

Good thing diehard Sony fans understand the difference, and discern the faulty companies.

Sony HK is selling the phone for 7999hkd (~1000usd) while giving you the OPTION to add on the either thier wireless buds or headphones at a reduced price. Seems like a better deal for those that are only interested in the phone. Compared to last years Xperia 1 seems like a pretty decent upgrade for around the same price.

Vineet Reddy, 09 Jun 2020NOKIA was the first to launch 21:9 aspect ratio into phone.... moreActually that crown goes to the LG New Chocolate (BL40) as the actual aspect ratio was in mind when building that phone, Stuff like the Nokia E90 was a 25:11 screen, So if you did put a movie shot at 21:9 you would get some small borders around watching it on a nokia.

DrummerAJL, 09 Jun 2020Actually, I saw someone say that the screen only runs at 10... moreIt's not the phone it's the apps, Netflix still haven't certified 4k or Amazon prime.
But look on the bright side, you can take a video in 4k and watch it in 4k, you can take a 12 megapixel photo and look at it in 8 megapixels.
I don't think a phone should be penalised because it only does something unique half of the time, that is still 50% more than everybody else.

I read somewhere, that EU version will only have single SIM, can anyone confirm that?

Smithravi, 06 Jun 2020"I'm surprised at how much I've enjoyed using this Xperia—s... moreActually, I saw someone say that the screen only runs at 1096x2560, less than QHD. 4K is only supported on a small amount of apps. If you're paying $1200 for this phone, you should be getting that 643 pixels per inch. If it's to save battery, Sony shouldn't sell 4K phones to begin with. I thought the S20 Ultra was bad with QHD 60hz or FHD 120hz, but this is another level. If you aren't getting 4K support on your app, you will only get 428ppi at FHD+. It would be nice to have a QHD+ 120hz trade, but we don't.

Honestly I'm not sure what is worse, Apple sheep or the diehard Sony fans I see here.

Rahul Soneji, 08 Jun 2020I really don't understand why Sony is adamant on using 21:9... moreSony wouldn't have adopted a 21:9 aspect ratio on their smartphones if 21:9 isn't standard and didn't adopt by their entertainment division, Sony Pictures for such a long time. Yet, 21:9 is a few common aspect ratios found in the industry alongside 4:3, 16:9 (there are few others like 1:1 and 3:2, but those three are most seen now), and Sony Pictures has been using since. Especially when Sony has deep roots as multimedia expertise, so seeing the Cinemascope aspect ratio in phones brought from other divisions should be expected... Sure, Sony wasn't the first to bring 21:9 to the smartphone industry but did make a wider impact on making 21:9 even more popular on the smartphone landscape.

And you weren't aware some OEMs are adopting 20:9, like OnePlus and Samsung? That's even closer to 21:9... Not surprise if 21:9 is a common thing in the next 1-2 years... Something Sony is ahead of the curve...

Any other formats are not the correct aspect ratio (except the now disfunct 4:3). It is true that the in-between aspects let you have less vertical or horizontal bars or less loss due to zoom depending on what you see. Rather than Sony becoming history it is more likely that 21:9 will be the most used ratio very soon
