Yes, but with Samsung you will get a green notification on the right upper corner of your display when this happens.

Alpha, 03 Oct 2022ok then don't buy it...buy Samsung and Huawei. Problem... morei don't need your command to not buy it. i am not going to buy it anyways. i was just expressing my criticism, the reasons against buying this device. nobody needs 21:9 ratio just for the sake of cinema-like experience, which isn't possible either because cinema-like experience is something you get on an 80" tv, not on a 6.5" smartphone screen with 71mm width. as this was the main reason according to sony to implement this aspect ratio in its phones, they have failed. just hold the s22 ultra next to the xperia 1 iv and you will see which one has better cinema-like experience.

p.s.: and please don't tell me the s22 ultra has a notch or that you have 3.5mm audio jack and sd card slot. xperia 1 iv costs 1400€ for 256gb version, with 50€ more i get an s22 ultra 512gb version and with the appropriate cable i can send and receive any data i want in extremely high speed. there are also bluetooth headphones nowadays, except you want to buy those 2000€ sony in-ear headphones for the sake of some sort of better experience again.

the phone is too narrow, 21:9 aspect ratio makes the display too small to properly work on it. this should be a camera phone, how shall i look on and edit my pictures with such a small display? not that the photos i take with this phone are usable with its outdated 12MP 1/1.7" main sensor and the 3.5x-5.2x continuous optical zoom which doesn't help at anything. pictures taken with this phone don't have any detail, they look natural, but it doesn't stand a chance against huawei are samsung phones.

Sony is going down and it hurts me to see xiaomi, vivo, oppo, Google and all the smartphone brands going ahead, please sony focus on marketing strategies or sony phones will be history like LG and HTC even Motorola is growing back up sony please don't be proud and market xperia to African continent because I'm sick of tecno phones, here the best selling brands are samsung, apple, tecno, itel, Google, infinix, xiaomi please even the midrange you can advertise it on TV channels, I'm using Sony xperia 5, I want to update but I have not yet, sony is failing because the latest sony phone in my country is Xperia 5 but I saved money for a new phone for this Christmas season, I need sony but I might just go for iPhone that all my friends use and is now in fashion but if sony comes to Africa it will sell millions of units and from here it can grow popular again or you can make a deal with shop owners which can recommend it to customers I think I have spoken to much I wish you the best

If a phone system has numerous more thrd party bloatware outside googles ecosystem, then yes, security patches, from the manufacturer, are needed for longer.
But, as close as a system is to a bare android one, there is less concern, as google does their own security patches through google play store.

So for ex, Sony is closer to stock, Sammy is full of their own bloat. Sony for ex uses Android Assistant, Sammy uses their own Bixby. Both applications can be hacked to use your microphone or camera to spy for your important information.
The catch is, Assistants security is constantly updated throug Google Play Store, by google and for as long as you use your phone, but Bixby one is not, so Sammy has to update its security on their own through their own patches.
Simply said, Googles Assistant is indefinitely protected from hacks, whilst Bixby is protected for just those 4 yrs of updates Sammy promises...
One is most longterm secure with a Googles own Pixel phone, but Xperias having near to stock android, are next in line of longterm security, and probably dont even need their own security updates for more than google obliged 2 yr update cycle.

Xperia 1 IV still not available in the US from Sony. Now their storefront is saying that it will be available in late October.

I would buy one in a heartbeat but the only option to get it is global rom that is missing LTE and 5G bands. Very sad state of affairs.
