milesfastguy, 16 Jul 2023Planning to buy a new xperia but can't decide between ... moreHope you're joking cause those chipsets(SD888 &SD8Gen1) are powerhungry & overheats alot whether its a samsung, sony, xiaomi, etc. flagship phone due to being fabbed by samsung & not tsmc.

Planning to buy a new xperia but can't decide between the 1 iv and the 5 iii. I'm considering these two as both have the continuous optical zoom feature. The 1 iv has the 4k screen, better RAM and it is newer. The 5 iii is compact, more power efficient, cheaper etc. Is there any other major difference between the two phones? I know the overheating issue is common to both due to the underlying chipset but I know for sure that it is fixable after a security update.

SilverHammer, 26 Jun 2023Hi. Your comment about oberheating is very important for me... moreAvoid buying any samsung fabbed soc(sd8gen1,sd888,etc.), they all overheat & throttle hard which is very notceable when you are pushing the phone whether its xiaiomi, samsung, sony, oppo, etc. any brand.
If you dont want to get the latest Xperia with SD8 Gen2(TSMC), maybe if available
Xperia 1/5 II(sd865) older but doesnt overheat.

Do the latest Sony phones still support themes? I was a die hard Sony user many years back and one of the things I liked most was themes support and the ability to change the entire interface including wallpaper, accent, icons and even sounds by changing the theme

I just this phone a couple of days back. I bought it from Taipei from a Sony shop and now using it in India. The phone gets updates everyday ranging from 80mb to 1gb and it automatically starts upgrading in 3 steps.
I am amused about the everyday updates. Are they from Sony or Google? If it's Google, I am worried about unnecessary bloatware or some shitty update which would ruin the software goodness. Is anyone else facing this?
BTW absolutely luving the handset and the feel it gives while using it. Sleek, tall & light weight!

I dont know much about these numbers in cameras.. but I like a good ultrawide view in a camera.. such as this one.. 12 MP, f/2.2, 16mm (ultrawide), 1/2.5" (probably 124˚)
I guess this is one of them.. and I always like/trust the quality of Sony cameras..
but in opposite.. I am disappointed most of good phones do not try to increase their slo-mo performance video recording fps rates.. more than 240 or 120... where as some of them provide this feature as 1920 FPS at 1080p resolution !! which is way better than 240.. am i right ??
I dont understand this.. is there any 3rd party app which can do this ?? thats why non of them phone developers dont bother developing this feature ?
