Picked one up 2nd hand for £420 a few days ago. It's really well built and feels every bit as expensive as its retail price suggests. Common Xperia gripes such as heat are still an issue with the 1iv, when you open the pro camera apps for the first time, each one will give you a warning that the phone may get so hot as to potentially cause burns (!). It does indeed get very hot. The party-piece zoom lens is incredible tech with a lot of promise but the shots you get indicate that this is very first generation, you are paying an early-adopter tax in image quality for sure. I would like to see Sony continue pushing the optical zoom tech and putting higher quality optics in their Xperia zoom lenses, preferably optics first, the sharpness really needs improving.

Had Samsung Galaxy before, amazing upgrade. Very happy with this unit. Was worries about heat beforehand, took the chance, but after running the updates no heat at all. Great!

Most expensive sony phone should 4 year updates like google and samsung

Anton-, 19 Mar 2023That Sony is not going to launch a new phone this year?According to the rumor and pattern timeline, Sony will release their Ultra (1 series) flagships and mid-ranger 10 series in May going forward since 1 IV/10 IV, as Sony needs time to iron out and finish their phones before putting them on sale. Most of the people have been complaining and wanting Sony to unveil and put their sales up as fast as they could, as from the Xperia X Performance to the Xperia 1 III, they always start selling 3–4 months after unveiling, and they delivered on that request since the Xperia Pro-I (unveiled in October, sales start in December) and the Xperia 1 IV (unveiled in May, released in June except in the USA). So, the Xperia 1 V should be unveiled in mid-May at the earliest.

Had S flagships for 12 years. They were great, lasted 4 years on average. Have this Sony for a year now. Simply something else and I love it! Its like Lineage on worn out Samsung, but with light speed responsiveness and valid safety net...

            Its simple nirvana.

Sony needs to improve its cellphones to give Samsung some competition. I prefer Sony because they kept the microSD card slot but some things I like in the Samsung that Sony doesn't have. These include brighter screens. The new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra goes up to max 1700 nits brightness, which is beautiful for multimedia and game playing. Please improve this and I'm yours, Sony.

This device has a horrible display aspect ratio, please don't get this as things in landscape are squished and movies are truncated while in portrait it is too narrow for comfortable reading.

Do yourself a favour and get something that has a 20:9 or better yet 19.5:9 ratio.

Would be nice if the also offered 4 years os update would make them a crazy competitor to Samsung & apple for sure .
